This contribution analyzes a completely unknown 16th century drawing. In the document, the author identifies a lost project for a pulpit in the Cathedral of Cosenza, draw up by Andrea Maggiore, Niccolò Ciolli and Antonio Grasso. The reconstruction of the drawing’s origin is possible thanks to some valuable indications on the document itself. The discovery allows us to re-analyze the personality of Andrea Maggiore, and his first known work, in the context of the Calabrian renaissance.Andrea Maggiore is especially important for the introduction of coloured marble altars in the region. His works are framed in the general phenomenon of the introduction of a new architectural language in southern Italy with an important reference to the role of his clients: a powerful and sometimes foreign cultural élite.Il contributo analizza un disegno del tutto inedito che l'autore ha potuto identificare nel progetto finora ritenuto perduto per il pulpito della cattedrale di Cosenza e attribuire ai toscani Andrea Maggiore, Niccolò Ciolli e Antonio Grasso. L’attribuzione è stata possibile grazie ad alcune preziose indicazioni contenute nel documento che hanno consentito di ricostruirne il preciso ambito di provenienza.Si è così potuta così restituire con completezza la vicenda della prima importante commessa di Andrea Maggiore a Cosenza ampliando la conoscenza della figura dell’autore stesso, già individuato come personaggio cardine del periodo della controriforma calabrese con particolare riferimento all’uso di marmi mischi che sarà così importante a partire dal XVII sec. Il pulpito e l’opera di Andrea Maggiore sono quindi stati inquadrati nel contesto dei rapporti con le committenze e di introduzione dei nuovi linguaggi nel sud Italia e in Calabria

The role of educative thought in the life and work of Antonio Gramsci
Many philosophers have propounded a vision of an improved society, what distinguishes Antonio Gramsci is his continuous effort to make it happen by understanding the process in order to put into practice. Gramsci's conviction about the importance of educative development came from both theory and experience. While there has been considerable examination of Gramsci's work in relation to the Prison Notebooks, this study will seek to address a lacuna in Gramsci scholarship. Using Gramsci's philological method, I analyse Gramsci's pre-prison activity; his pre-prison articles and letters, which, together with his letters from prison, formed part of his educative mission. This educative process was necessary, in order to construct a new party which would develop a collective will, collaboratively, with the masses.In this study therefore, I explore the contexts and formative experiences of the first part of his life together with the intellectual sources from which Gramsci developed his later theories, making central hitherto underemphasised connections between them which informed his writing and ideas. I intend to illustrate that Gramsci's underlying purpose in his writing, and political activity, was not only practical, on how to create a new socialist ruling class, but also educative in forming the mindset and values of his comrades. So that in addition to outlining his vision of a new order, he implicitly guided or explicitly explained the processes by which the necessary changes in social relations and moral climate could be made in order to achieve it. Each person had to engage with the values of the new order so that each could contribute to the construction of a new robust state. It was essential to build a hegemony at the most profound level, one which was dependent on collective understandings and a collective will

Sewage sludge acidogenic fermentation for organic resource recovery towards carbon neutrality: an experimental survey testing the headspace influence
Volatile fatty acids (VFAs) produced by acidogenic digestion of sewage sludge are very interesting bio-products which can contribute to carbon neutrality of wastewater treatment plants. Studies on the production of VFAs from sewage sludge from fermenters with membrane are limited. In view of above, VFAs from a fermenter pilot plant equipped with a membrane bioreactor and fed with real sewage sludge has been monitored. The effect of headspace volume (HdV) on VFA production was studied for the first time to elucidate the optimal operation conditions. Specifically, three fermenter HdV values (namely, 20, 40 and 60% of the total volume) have been investigated. Results revealed that the HdV of 20% ensured the highest sCOD production (900 mgCOD/L) and VFA/COD ratio (45.4%). High value of HdV (namely, 40 and 60%) strongly decreased the acidogenic fermentation performance in terms of VFA production
Improving hydrothermal carbonization prediction by machine learning: towards a more accurate and less expensive process modelling through data augmentation
Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) modelling through machine learning requires high-quality datasets with
large size to adequately train the predictive algorithms. For energy-intensive processes like HTC, data collection
may be highly expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, predictive models are usually trained using small
datasets collected from literature. To overcome this limitation, we introduced controlled Gaussian noise into the
training datasets, obtained experimentally, to significantly expand their size without distorting fundamental
properties. Differently from the current HTC modelling approach and other data augmentation techniques, this
novel method allows to obtain large and homogeneous datasets, in terms of consistency and reliability, leading to
more robust predictions and maintaining a realistic process representation. After data augmentation, the
developed models, based on artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM), performed
under more realistic conditions and greatly benefited from training with enlarged datasets. ANN exhibited superior
predictive capabilities compared to SVM, with a reduction of Mean Square Error greater than 90 %. Mean
Absolute Percentage Errors were below 5 % for ANN and in the range 6–15 % for SVM. The proposed approach
will contribute to enhance the algorithms’ predictive power by requiring limited experimental data and reducing

Le inderogabili esigenze di accessibilità dell’Istituto di cura Hermitage Capodimonte, centro medico neurologico di importante rilevanza sanitaria e scientifica, hanno offerto l’occasione di realizzare una «porta-ponte» al Parco delle Colline di Napoli proprio nel suo punto magico di tangenza con il sito reale borbonico del Bosco di Capodimonte. Il nuovo ponte sorto proprio nel luogo che fino all’Ottocento era il «posto doganale di Bellaria», la porta della città da nord ancora testimoniata dal manufatto della garitta, assume una rilevante e rinnovata valenza simbolica e funzionale anche a livello urbanistico configurando un ingresso prestigioso al Parco delle Colline in continuità con il parco di Capodimonte
