Hologram Domain Data Compression: Performance of Standard Codecs and Image Quality Assessment at Different Distances and Perspectives
Computer generated holograms represent a novel digital media that with adequate processing tools and the advance of holographic display technologies will foster the development of true immersive video technologies applications. A digital hologram typically conveys a considerable amount of data making compression and image quality evaluation tools necessary for the development of practical applications. This paper proposes an objective evaluation of the performances of state-of-the-art compression techniques applied to digital holographic data. The experimental analysis takes into account several holographic images reconstructing the holograms from different perspectives and distances. The results of the exploratory study are reported, discussed and complemented with a statistical analysis of the hologram data under test, providing insights for computer-generated holography compression techniques design
Ulcera duodenale in due gemelli dizigoti
We report two cases of duodenal ulcer (DU) identified at endoscopy in a pair of dizygotic twins; their outstanding clinically recognizable features were a very early onset, a great familiar occurrence, a lack of triggering conditions (drugs, burns, stress, sepsis, respiratory distress), normal serum levels of gastrin and pepsinogen I, inadequate response to medical treatment with H2-receptor antagonists, but satisfactory response to associated therapy with H2-receptor antagonists and sucralfate. Results of this study show that examined twins were affected by a form of early-onset primary DU, probably inherited like an autosomal dominant disorder with high degree of penetrance, associated with normal serum pepsinogen I and gastrin; in this form of Du a decreased tissue resistance of duodenal mucosa is likely more important, pathogenically, than an increased peptic secretion. At present long-term prognosis of our patients is unknown
Plasma levels of gonadotropins, prolactin, thyroxine, and adrenal and gonadal steroids in obese prepubertal girls.
Plasma levels of gonadotropins, PRL, T4, and adrenal and gonadal steroids were measured in two groups of 7- to 9-yr-old and 10- to 11-yr-old obese prepubertal girls, and were compared to those found in groups of nonobese girls of the same age. The data found in normal weight subjects confirm the data reported in the literature, showing a significant rise between the 7- to 9- and 10- to 11-yr groups, of FSH, pregnenolone, dehydroepiandrosterone, testosterone, and estradiol plasma levels, while LH, PRL, T4, cortisol, progesterone, 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17P), and androstenedione remained constant. In the obese subjects, pregnenolone and dehydroepiandrosterone levels are notably higher than in the normal girls, in the same range as those found in adult women; furthermore, they show no rise between the two age groups. The obese prepubertal groups had significantly higher progesterone, androstenedione, and PRL levels in comparison with those observed in girls of normal weight, but 17-hydroxyprogesterone, cortisol, testosterone, LH, and T4 were similar in both groups. Estradiol levels were markedly depressed in the obese girls; FSH levels were higher in the younger girls than in normal subjects. These data indicate that in prepubertal obesity, maturation of adrenal gland function (chiefly the delta 5 pathway), is notably enhanced, whereas gonadal secretion of estradiol is impaired in the presence of high levels of FSH and PRL
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
