No full textIl seguente lavoro prende in esame alcuni aspetti significativi della figura e della produzione di Nicolò Franco, autore associato al numero dei poligrafi, gli “irregolari” del Cinquecento. Ci si sofferma sulla produzione epistolare dell’autore, in particolare su quella costituita dalle lettere contenute nel manoscritto autografo Vat. Lat. 5642, ancora parzialmente inedito. Dopo la ricostruzione del profilo biografico del Franco e di tutti gli spostamenti che lo conducono da Benevento a Roma, e dopo la rievocazione delle opere composte in quegli anni, una trattazione separata è dedicata al rapporto veneziano del Franco con Pietro Aretino e al suo successivo deterioramento, sfociato in duro scontro. Infine, ci si concentra sulla questione della primogenitura del genere dell’epistolografia volgare, terreno dove scoppia la rottura tra i due scrittori. Si prova, quindi, a tracciare una storia del genere della raccolta di lettere che, muovendo dalla codificazione in lingua latina compiuta da Petrarca, si sofferma sull’innovazione cinquecentesca del libro di lettere in volgare, giungendo poi a rilevare la riduzione della lettera a formulario realizzata dai libri scritti per la formazione del Segretario. Segue un saggio di edizione in cui si restituisce il testo a oggi ancora inedito di alcune lettere di Nicolò Franco contenute nel ms. Vat. Lat. 5642, precisamente di quelle trascritte alle cc. 295r-345r, relative agli anni che vanno dal 1549 al 1551

No full textLa tesi si propone di fornire l'edizione critica e commentata dell'epistolario parzialmente inedito di Nicolò Franco, trasmesso dal codice autografo Vat. lat. 5642. Il lavoro è strutturato in due parti: la prima è formata da tre capitoli introduttivi, mentre la seconda è di carattere più propriamente filologico. Il primo capitolo ricostruisce le coordinate biografiche di Nicolò Franco, concentrandosi in particolare sul periodo di tempo a cui risalgono le epistole di cui fornisco l’edizione critica, ossia gli anni 1549-1559, e utilizzando come fonte principale proprio l’epistolario Vaticano, oggetto ibrido che da un lato ha le sfumature del libro di lettere inteso come opera letteraria, ma dall’altro possiede anche un indubbio valore documentario, che si è cercato di sfruttare e far emergere. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato a un’analisi più approfondita delle caratteristiche dell’epistolario franchiano, di cui vengono analizzate le modalità di composizione e la struttura; ci si sofferma sulla tipologia ‘familiare’ come preponderante nell’epistolario di Franco, mostrando però la versatilità con cui lo scrittore la utilizza, rimodellandola a seconda della situazione. Si passano in rassegna la diversità di toni impiegati da Franco nella sua corrispondenza, secondo una modulazione della voce che tiene conto di una serie di diversi elementi contestuali, a partire dallo status sociale del proprio interlocutore. Infine, il terzo capitolo intende passare in rassegna le principali novità introdotte dall’epistolografia franchiana, e le connessioni di questa con aspetti della politica e della religione del tempo. Viene esaminata, in primo luogo, la padronanza esibita da Franco con il genere degli epistolari in volgare, mentre una più ampia trattazione è dedicata agli elementi comici che si registrano nell’epistolario manoscritto e alle modalità con cui sospingono l’epistola nella direzione di una specializzazione faceta. A questa prima parte segue la seconda, di carattere filologico, costituita dall’edizione critica della parte ancora inedita di epistolario (295-570), preceduta dalla sezione della nota al testo e dei criteri editoriali, e accompagnata da un commento di carattere principalmente storico-letterario. In quest’ultimo ci si concentra soprattutto sull’identificazione dei corrispondenti e degli interlocutori o dei personaggi menzionati (politici, prelati, letterati locali) e sullo scioglimento di riferimenti a opere o testi (di corrispondenti o di Franco, in questo ricostruendo anche il quadro completo delle opere perdute). Allo stesso modo, il commento registra eventuali legami intertestuali con altre opere di Franco, citazioni da altri autori (se ne trovano, per esempio, alcune di Dante e Petrarca), e cerca di cogliere i cenni alla ricezione dei testi di Franco. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
