The spectral theorem for normal operators on a Clifford module
\ua9 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.In this paper, using the recently discovered notion of the S-spectrum, we prove the spectral theorem for a bounded or unbounded normal operator on a Clifford module (i.e., a two-sided Hilbert module over a Clifford algebra based on units that all square to be - 1). Moreover, we establish the existence of a Borel functional calculus for bounded or unbounded normal operators on a Clifford module. Towards this end, we have developed many results on functional analysis, operator theory, integration theory and measure theory in a Clifford setting which may be of an independent interest. Our spectral theory is the natural spectral theory for the Dirac operator on manifolds in the non-self adjoint case. Moreover, our results provide a new notion of spectral theory and a Borel functional calculus for a class of n-tuples of commuting or non-commuting operators on a real or complex Hilbert space. Moreover, for a special class of n-tuples of operators on a Hilbert space our results provide a complementary functional calculus to the functional calculus of J. L. Taylor
The representation of the acts of preparation and consumption of food in audio-visual and digital media is both a reflex and an active element of the symbolic and cultural construction of social life. Adopting a socio-semiotics approach, this article focuses on the communicative functions of the figure of the chef and of the act of cooking as they are employed in different media, with a particular focus on the Italian mediascape. The first paragraph briefly retraces the symbolic and narrative valences of food in the history of Italian cinema from Neorealism to the present. The second paragraph focuses on the “spectacular” role of food in contemporary tv genres, such as talent show, reality show and game show. The third paragraph point out the “exhibitionist” exploitation of food in participatory and user-generated content media such as weblogs and social network sites.
An analysis of international design education programs training students’ competencies and skills for tackling complex social challenges
This volume is the proceedings of the 10th biennial congress of IASDR, the International Association for Societies of Design Research, hosted by the Politecnico di Milano, 9–13 October 2023. With its overarching theme of “Life-Changing Design” and its diverse thematic tracks, IASDR2023 presented an exceptional opportunity for researchers, scholars, and practitioners to engage with the dynamic landscape of design research. The conference served as a platform for robust discussions, knowledge sharing, and the exploration of innovative solutions to society’s complex challenges. By examining these thematic tracks and their intersection with the central theme, “Life-Changing Design,” the conference contributed to the ongoing dialogue surrounding design research and its transformative potential, fostering a deeper understanding of design’s role in shaping our world
Brain stem acoustic evoked potentials recorded from the human mesencephalon
Near field brain stem evoked potentials (NF-BAEPs) were recorded by means of an intraparenchymatous electrode placed in the right mesencephalon, during a stereotactic-guided biopsy of a tumor. The traces were compared with far field BAEPs (FF-BAEPs) obtained intraoperatively with scalp electrodes. The findings suggest a peripheral origin of wave II, a bilateral source of wave III and a main contralateral source of wave IV, while wave V seems to take origin mainly from the homolateral upper brain stem. Some intraparenchymatous activities do not project to the scalp. The possible impairments of NF-BAEP due to the presence of the tumor and the challenges of unidimensional single electrode recording are discussed
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Late Visean mylonitic granitoids in the Argentera Massif (Western Alps): age and kinematic constrains on the Ferrière-Mollières shear zone
The Argentera Massif in the western Alps is made of up two medium–high-grade metamorphic complexes of
Variscan age. They are separated by a regional-scale northwest-trending shear zone, the Ferrière–Mollières Line, which
consists of low-grade mylonitic rocks. Muscovite-bearingmylonitic leucogranites crop out as subvertical northwest-trending
intrusions, in the northern portion of the shear zone. A Rb/Sr muscovite–wr age of 327±3 Ma on foliated leucogranite gives
a lower limit for the age of mylonitic deformation for which kinematic indicators indicate a dextral sense of shear. This strike-slip
tectonics is compatible with the extensional regime that occurred during Carboniferous in the whole western Europ
