L’efficacia delle immagini secondo Morselli. Primi appunti sulla stesura e la fonte dannunziana di "Un dramma borghese"
The paper proposes a brief analysis of the variations that affect the three initial pages of his first great novel, Un dramma borghese, the beginning that Sereni found unpleasant, identifying the effect the author aimed for, judging at least from the fixes examined: a cloistered narrative form, within a bare and lucid writing; something that also concerns Gabriele d’Annunzio’s Notturn
Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm Activities of the Italian Cannabis sativa L Essential Oil against Staphylococcus aureus
Introduction:
The aim of the study was the evaluation of the antimicrobial and antibiofilm properties of Cannabis sativa essential oil (EO) versus Staphylococcus aureus.
Materials and Methods: The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation of fresh aerial parts from hemp variety C. sativa cv. Futura75 cultivated in Abruzzo region. The antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of Hemp EO were evaluated on one reference strain Staphylococcus aureus (Sa) ATCC 29213 and three clinical strains of Sa 101, Sa 104, Sa 105, isolated by different sources and characterized for the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. The determination of the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) was carried out by using the broth microdilution method according to the NCCLS guidelines and the alamarBlue® (AB) viability assay. Hemp EO was prepared as 10% (v/v) solutions in ethanol and was used in the range of 0.5-16 mg/mL. The antibiofilm effect of Hemp EO was determined by the evaluation of Minimum Biofilm Eradication Concentration (MBEC) by using the broth microdilution method in the range of 16-32 mg/mL and the AB assay. The MBEC was confirmed by Live/Dead Cell Viability Staining and fluorescent microscopy analysis. However, Colony Forming Unit (CFU) enumeration was performed to evaluate the bacterial cell viability in the biofilm and planktonic phenotypes. Using a validated HPLC-PDA method was also obtained phenolics profile of the EO in order to correlate the biological activities with chemical profile on selected compounds.
Results: The Hemp EO showed a MIC corresponding to 8 mg/mL versus all S. aureus strains including S. aureus 104, a multi-drug resistant strain isolated by a pharyngeal swab of a male patient. With regard to MBC the Hemp EO showed to be effective at 16 mg/mL versus all S. aureus strains. Furthermore, the Hemp EO showed its capability to eradicate a mature biofilm developed by S. aureus showing a MBEC at 24 mg/mL towards all the strains of S. aureus except for S. aureus 105 that showed a MBEC corresponding to 16 mg/mL. The effect of the Hemp EO in the eradication of S. aureus pre-formed biofilms were confirmed by the statistical significant reduction of the CFU count. The Live/Dead staining and fluorescent microscopy evaluation showed a well-structured biofilm constituted by a great amount of live cells. On the contrary, S. aureus mature biofilms treated with 24 mg/mL of Hemp EO, did not show a reduction of the biofilm biomass, however, the biofilms treated with Hemp EO were characterized by a multitude of dead cells.
Discussion and Conclusions: The antibacterial and antibiofilm activities of Hemp EO suggest it a possible candidate in the treatment of the infections associated with S. aureus
Fine o ricomprensione dei sacrifici? A proposito di Eb 10,18
Several interpretations of Heb. 10 have concluded thaht the author intended discredit the ancient cult to replace it with a spiritual cult. The contribution shows that in the light of the biblical tradition, constantly referred to by the author, it emerges that he also contrasts sacrifice and oboedience, and in so doing he takes part to the discussion spread i Judaism subsequent to the distructon of the Jerusalem Temple
La vita nello Spirito
The author of the book of Wisdom has used the concept of spirit to illustrate the essence of wisdom and this allows him to show that the divine transcendence does not exclude the actual closeness of God to the world and especially to those who, like Solomon, prepare themselves for receiving the gift of His friendship
"Conoscerti è giustizia perfetta" (Sap 15,3)
The theme of justice is amply developed/ treated by the Book of Wisdom, which deals with both God’s and man’s justice. The last occurrence of the term δικαιοσύνη is in 15,3, at the end of a long excursus onidolatry; in this passage the author gives a sort of summarizing “definition”, according to which knowledge of God and justice are nearly identified. The theme of knowledge is recurrent in the Book, and this is due to the cultural context in which it originated (the Jewish diaspora to Egypt), and the close relationship with the Jewish tradition of wisdom. The work highlights the passage from wisdom based on experience to one granted by inspiration and revelation; consequently, this is the way by which God reveals Himself, works and transforms the human being; moreover, wisdom is not only a series of notions, but it is firstly the possibility of knowing the will of God. Drawing upon the proclamation in Es 34,6, in 15,1-3, the author evokes the main traits of the God the covenant (15,1), God is alive and a real person, and is contrasted with the powerless and lifeless idols worshipped by the heathen; once the sovereignty of this God is acknowledged, it is possible to adhere to his will (15,2); thus that perfect justice which is the root of immortality is fulfilled (15; cfr. 1,15). Knowledge of God is synonymous with a virtuous life, from which immortality can germinate, as a plant or tree grows out of a root
Successful resuscitation and neurological monitoring of a dog with out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest due to pentobarbital overdose.
OBJECTIVE
To describe the clinical signs, electroencephalographic (EEG) findings, treatment, and outcome in a dog after successful resuscitation from out-of-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest (OHCA) induced by pentobarbital intoxication.
CASE SUMMARY
A 10-year-old, male intact Jack Russell Terrier was referred for management of refractory status epilepticus and presented dead on arrival. After 7 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, return of spontaneous circulation was achieved, but the dog remained comatose, apneic, and lacked brainstem reflexes on neurological examination 6 hours following resuscitation. Magnetic resonance imaging showed polioencephalomalacia consistent with prolonged epileptiform activity, and EEG was initially concerning for electrocerebral inactivity. Following supportive care that included short-term mechanical ventilation, the dog made a full recovery and was discharged from the hospital alive 7 days postresuscitation. It was later revealed that the dog had been administered an unknown amount of pentobarbital during transportation, which likely contributed to the OHCA, clinical, and EEG findings.
NEW INFORMATION PROVIDED
This is the first report to describe the full recovery and hospital discharge of a dog suffering OHCA and the first description of EEG findings in a clinical veterinary patient following cardiopulmonary arrest and successful resuscitation. Factors likely contributing to successful patient outcome and potential benefits and limitations of EEG in monitoring postcardiac arrest patients are discussed
Abstract : This work is a historical narrative about juridical ideas of Professor Miguel Reale, a brasilian jurist and philosopher, from the time he became involved with the political movement known as ?Integralismo? (1933) until the publication of ?Filosofia do Direito? (1953). This research was based on my interpretation of Reale?s memories (?Memórias?, from 1987), in comparison with his works about ?Integralismo?, Theory of Law, Theory of State, Political Philosophy and Philosophy of Law. In adition to this, it contains an empirical research about ?Acção?, an integralist newspaper directed by Reale between 1936 and 1938. Nowadays, this material is microfilmed in the ?Arquivo Público do Estado de São Paulo?, the State of São Paulo?s Public Archive. The intellectual and political trajectories of the author were analyzed altogether, through the methods of historiography and sociology of intellectuals. Some analytical categories created by Michel Foucault and Pierre Bourdieu were used to achieve this purpose
