Mistificaciones en torno al cónsul Espurio Cassio Vecellino
No full textThe data transmitted by the Greek-Latin authors about the Consul Espurio Cassio Vecellino (VI-V century B.C.) are examined. The analysts of the 2nd and 1st centuries B.C. reworked and falsified the facts and presented Cassio's acts as a precedent of those performed by the Gracchi. The condemnation and execution of the consul was presented as an example to follow against the aspirants to affectatio regini. Finally, two statues that tradition linked to Spurious Cassio are analyzed and a series of considerations are made about his death and the opinion that the plebs and the Cassia gens had about his person in the last centuries of the Roman Republic.Se examinan los datos trasmitidos por los autores greco-latinos sobre el cónsul Espurio Cassio Vecellino (s. VI-V a. C.). Los analistas de los siglos II y I a. C. reelaboraron y falsificaron los hechos y presentaron los actos de Cassio como un precedente de los protagonizados por los Gracos. La condena y ejecución del cónsul fueron expuestas como un ejemplo a seguir contra los aspirantes a la affectatio regini. Por último, se analizan dos estatuas que la tradición vinculócon Espurio Cassio y se hacen una serie de consideraciones acerca de su muerte y de la opinión que sobre su persona tenía la plebe y la gens Cassia en los últimos siglos de la República romana

No full textIn this paper I shall take issue with those historical narratives (mainly from Cassio Dio and the Historia Augusta) testifying to an active political role played by Marcus Aurelius' wife, Faustina Minor, on the occasion of the usurpation of the rector totius Orientis Avidius Cassius that took place in 175 AD. Such narratives, contradictory and partly antithetical to each other, probably aim at covering up the actual responsibilities of the revolt, given that they tend to shift the blame to a single person. It should be stressed, however, that in the II century AD the Augustae are finally credited with a concrete role in the Imperial politics, as it is emphasized by the bestowal of the title mater castrorum to Faustina Minor herself

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full text“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Implicating factors in the increase in cases of central precocious puberty (CPP) during the COVID-19 pandemic: Experience of a tertiary centre of pediatric endocrinology and review of the literature
No full textSexual development is a complex mechanism activated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Over the last one hundred years there has been a decline in the age at puberty onset in industrialised countries. Some Italian studies showed an increase in diagnoses of Central Precocious Puberty (CPP) during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is thus supposed that in this period there was an increased impact of factors that can influence pubertal development. Our retrospective monocentric study aimed to confirm the existence of this phenomenon and analysed possible related factors. We retrospectively evaluated clinical, laboratory, radiological and ultrasound (US) data of 154 girls referred to our Tertiary Centre of Paediatric Endocrinology from January 2019 to April 2021 for different forms of Precocious Puberty. We subdivided the cases into subgroups according to the final diagnosis: CPP, Early Puberty (EP), isolated thelarche and isolated pubarche. The observation period was subdivided into: Period 1, before lockdown (1 January 2019 – 8 March 2020) and Period 2, lockdown and the following months (9 March 2020 – 30 April 2021). Period 2 was further divided into “restrictive lockdown period” (Period 2.1) (March 2020 – 14 June 2020, in which the schools were closed) and “less restrictive lockdown period” (Period 2.2) (15 June 2020 – 30 April 2021). We analysed data regarding the use of electronic devices before and during lockdown in a group of girls with CPP diagnosed in Period 2 and we compared the data with that of a control group. Our data show an increase in the number of new diagnoses of CPP during lockdown and in the following months, compared with the previous period. We also detected a higher use of PCs and smartphones in girls with CPP diagnosed in Period 2, compared with the control group. The percentage of the presence of endometrial rhyme detected during the pelvic ultrasound was higher in girls with CPP in Period 2, compared with the previous period. Based on our data we assume there was an environmental effect on pubertal timing that calls our attention to factors such as food, use of electronic devices and stress. We will need further studies to better understand this data
