Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods

Abstract : The "give birth and being born into a new time", incorporates a contemporary urban setting, which values the role of the participants and the environmental context, promoting empowerment of the couple and the midwife. It is a Convergent Care Research (PCA), qualitative. Objectives: to know the meaning assigned by the couple about the experience of planned home birth attended by nurse midwife of Hanami Team and analyze how the couple perceive the process of care in prenatal, labor/delivery/birth and postpartum, used by nurse midwives of Hanami Team in planned home birth. The study included 30 couples, from October 2011 to November 2012, Convergent Care in Practice (PCA). Data were collected in semi-structured interview and participant observation. Data analysis comprised the steps of collection, synthesis, and theorization and application process, based in the Theory of Diversity and Universality Cultural Care by Leininger and the Models of Delivery Care by Robie Davis-Floyd. A literature review is the first manuscript. The results were presented in five manuscripts. The second manuscript identified sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics of the couples assisted by Hanami Team. The third manuscript showed the meaning given by the couple about the experience of planned home birth attended by nurse midwife of Hanami Team. The fourth manuscript analyzed the perception of the couple about the process of care during prenatal process done by Hanami Team. The fifth manuscript analyzed the perception of the couple about the process of care during labor and delivery. The sixth manuscript examined the perception of the couple assisted by Hanami Team in planned home births about the methodology used in postpartum care. Final Thoughts: couples who seek Hanami Team show a paradigm shift that brings holistic parturitive culture of "giving birth and being born into a new time" as an unique opportunity to simultaneously contact with human inner nature and the environment. The positive experience of the couples materializes the meaning that planned home birth is an ideal. Cultural security is linked to privacy, freedom of expression of feelings that respects the culture of the couple. Home is sacred to the birth in family, but it is a challenge to overcome the socio-cultural discrimination. The prenatal care marks the decision to home birth. The continuous monitoring in the last quarter tranquilly favors a transition from pregnancy and childbirth. Couples appreciate the care process in childbirth that considers the cultural and professional competence and scientific evidence that generate cultural security. The new family experiences the contemplation and celebration of life as the culmination of family emotion. The authors emphasize the importance of a respectful cultural and sensitive care of mother and baby during the postpartum period, as well as the support care in breastfeeding. Faced with difficult situations, professional cultural competence helps to overcome them. Care practices are supported by cultural constructions and holistic care

Generalizing the Convex Hull of a Sample: The R Package alphahull
This paper presents the R package alphahull which implements the ñ-convex hull and the ñ-shape of a finite set of points in the plane. These geometric structures provide an informative overview of the shape and properties of the point set. Unlike the convex hull, the ñ-convex hull and the ñ-shape are able to reconstruct non-convex sets. This flexibility make them specially useful in set estimation. Since the implementation is based on the intimate relation of theses constructs with Delaunay triangulations, the R package alphahull also includes functions to compute Voronoi and Delaunay tesselations. The usefulness of the package is illustrated with two small simulation studies on boundary length estimation.
