    Tiffany&Co.: The Landmark

    No full text
A landmark is an urban sign, an icon of the cityscape, a visually recognized and recognizable monumental edifice that embodies an organization’s aesthetics, values and content. To create a building that sets itself apart from the urban chaos for its beauty, quality, hospitality, comfort, efficiency and sustainability is one of the main objectives of landmark architecture, the boon and the bane of every architect. Tiffany & Co. has always paid great attention to its stores, considered not as mere points of sale but also as venues where the purchase of objects is transformed into an emotional and sensorial experience for the client, to the point of making them urban landmarks in the landscape of New York City. From the first shop in lower Manhattan, founded by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young on Broadway and Warren Street in 1837, to the Landmark we celebrate today at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, all the house’s shops have followed the growth of New York, its urbanization, its preferences and its achievements. This book describes Tiffany's masterpieces of art and jewelry in their relationship with almost two centuries of relationship between Tiffany and New York cit

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
