A ferrovia no Vale do Itajaí
The theme of this thesis is an analysis of historical facts related to the process of implantation and further disabling of EFSC (Estrada de Ferro Santa Catarina) in the region of Vale do Itajaí, State of Santa Catarina, highlighting the main agents of the case and the consequences of their actions both on geographical and social domain. This research has a social and academic relevance as a tool for further search and memory since it presents the organization of historical facts regarding transport in the region of Vale do Itajaí, with a focus on railway transportation, especially EFSC, from which little research sources and publications can be found. The work is referenced by an analysis of social relations according to the concepts of Santos (1991); historical facts recorded in journals, written, photographic, cartographic documents; and interviews. It includes, also, some search on the context of national and international events in order to offer a better understanding of the facts in a local and regional scale. Additionally, this research used as a reference to the concepts shown an analysis registered by Mumford in his book "A Cidade na História", around the process of urban transformations resulting from the development of cities and their key players. Concepts of other authors, as Villaça, Lefebvre and Halbwachs are also devices of this theoretical work. The railway took part of the local leaders' plans since the first decades of the history of the foundation of urban areas located at the basin of the Itajaí River. It was, at that time, a basic need for the economic development of the region
Impacts of hunter-gatherers on the vegetation history of the eastern vale of pickering, Yorkshire
Research is undertaken into the vegetation and human impact at three previously un-researched archaeological sites from the eastern Vale of Pickering. The vegetation history is reconstructed from the end of the Windermere Interstadial c. 13,000 (^14)C yr BP until the final Mesolithic c. 5100 (^14)C yr BP. The early Mesolithic human impact on the vegetation is assessed using a three stage statistical test to establish the internal variability in the data as well as background variations in pollen output. The results reveal that humans had a small but significant impact on the vegetation around two of the sites. Pollen preservation at the third site precluded analyses of the impacts of humans on the vegetation. The three-stage test used to test for human impact was quite successful but requires revision before any further use. On the whole the tests confirmed the findings of conventional human impact analyses. During the pre-Holocene fires occurred on a regular basis. These fires varied in location and intensity, suggesting that some of the fires were regional or large-scale, whilst others were small and very localized. A multi-causal explanation has been given for the fires. Later, during the early Mesolithic, human groups are thought to have burnt the reedswamp at the lake edges as part of an economic strategy. Star Carr is the only site that demonstrates clearance of significant areas of woodland. During the later Mesolithic the hunter-gatherers have a greater impact on the vegetation within the Vale. This is attributed to the need for more resources as a result of vegetation change and increased population levels. Unlike their counter-parts from the North York Moors, the occupants of the lowland Vale of Pickering cause no long-term change to their environment

This Phd dissertation in the Political Sociology course of Santa Catarina Federal University aims to analyze favorable factors and obstacles to the constructions of a sustainable territorial development process of Vale dos Vinhedos. It seeks to comprehend the trajectory of development in the region and the relations between the different groups of actors, concerning political-institutional, socio economical and ecological matters. Concepts and notions proceeding from human ecology, political ecology, and from the theory about means of management of common use resources were used as a theoretical reference for the analysis of factors that affect the search for sustainability of development. These conceptions support eco-development as a scientific ideology, in search of development based on principles such as social equity and ecological prudence. The theoretical reference renders concrete with the perspective of sustainable territorial development, as a way to socio environmental challenges. The analysis of the development trajectory of the conflict area and existing negotiations nowadays, observed through the interviews with local actors, has made it possible to realize that, in spite of the overcoming of rural poverty originated from the strengthening of familiar agriculture, the formation of a new economical elite formed by families that own vineyards, coming from local familiar agriculture itself, has been associated with the weakening of social relations of other social groups. The new social relations promote the reduction of the community life role in the construction of development and participation of these actors in the territorial planning and management. The scenarios built in the work point to the fact that if the strategies that have been adopted in the last two decades are maintained, the perspective of consolidation of a development with very little evident territorial and sustainable characteristics, threaten the achievements reached so far

Dorian Vale – Art Critic & Philosopher of Aesthetics
Dorian Vale (pseudonym) is a contemporary art critic and philosopher of aesthetics whose work challenges the dominance of interpretation in modern art discourse. He is the founder of the Post-Interpretive Movement and author of several philosophical treatises, including Art as Truth, Stillmark Theory, Absential Aesthetics, and The Doctrine of Post-Interpretive Criticism. His writing advocates for presence over analysis, moral proximity over performance, and ethical restraint over aesthetic consumption.
Vale’s critical approach foregrounds the role of the viewer as evidence, emphasizing silent witnessing, poetic custodianship, and the sanctity of unspoken meaning. His essays have redefined how critics, curators, and educators engage with trauma-infused contemporary art—particularly in works by artists such as Doris Salcedo, Kimsooja, Ana Mendieta, Zarina Hashmi, Teresa Margolles, and Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook.
Vale’s work is deeply rooted in a philosophy of sacred attention, bridging art criticism with human behavior, phenomenology, and ethics. Through his digital museum platform Museum of One, he continues to publish foundational essays, critical doctrines, and aesthetic educational tools that mark the emergence of an entirely new movement in global criticism.
His published works include:
● Post-Interpretive Criticism: The Foundational Essays
● The Viewer as Evidence: A Treatise
● Art as Truth: A Treatise
● Absential Aesthetics
● Stillmark Theory
● Hauntmark Theory
● The Doctrine of Erasure
● The Canon of Witnesses — a collection of museum-grade critical essays
● The Post-Interpretive Lexicon — a glossary of key terms and concepts
● The Custodian’s Oath — a philosophical statement of the critic’s moral role
He is also the creator of numerous educational resources, including practical guides such as:
● How to Practice Restraint in Front of a Work of Art
● Witnessing vs. Interpreting: A Comparative Exercise
● Language as Custody: Writing Without Harm
● The Five Principles of Post-Interpretive Criticism: A Study Guide
Vale’s core aesthetic theories include:
● Post-Interpretive Criticism (PIC) – a doctrine of restraint, presence, and witness
● Stillmark Theory – on temporal presence and the ethics of scarcity
● Absential Aesthetics – on erasure and the afterlife of what’s lost
● Hauntmark Theory – on language as violence and descriptive restraint
● Art as Truth – on ontology as the foundation of artistic presence
● The Viewer as Evidence – a new evaluative framework grounded in witness
● Threshold Theory – on the collapse of roles between artist, object, and viewer
● The Doctrine of Erasure – on the spectral persistence of what institutions suppress
● The Custodian’s Oath – the moral positioning of the critic as caretaker
His platform, Museum of One, serves as a home for his growing archive of essays, treatises, and aesthetic resources. The movement he leads now informs a new generation of critics, artists, and curators who see restraint not as lack — but as loyalty to the work.
At the center of his thought is a single conviction: “Not all art asks to be explained. Some works ask only that we stay.” Dorian Vale’s art criticism is not commentary. It is custody.
Dorian Vale is a chosen pseudonym, not to obscure identity, but to preserve clarity of voice and integrity of message. It creates distance between the writer and the work, allowing the philosophy to stand unclouded by biography. The name exists not to hide, but to honor the seriousness of the task: to speak without spectacle, and to build without needing to be seen. This name is used for all official publications, essays, and theoretical works indexed through DOI-linked repositories including Zenodo, OSF, PhilPapers, and SSRN.
