The Psychological Contract as an Integrative Governance Instrument of the Legal Outsourcing Contract

    No full text
Outsourcing is a managerial procedure whose success needs clarification regarding the long-term relationship between customer and supplier. The authors’ aim is to examine simultaneously the client’s and supplier’s perspectives through the psychological contract that, by assimilating the contents of the legal contract, focuses on (1) the implicit (not formalized) and reciprocal (mutual) duties between the two parties, (2) the equivalence of psychological obligations and contractual values and (3) the importance of the individual commitment level. While the legal contract is managed and based on an organizational level, the psychological contract is individual and perceived as such: from the authors’ point of view, all workers, regardless of whether they work inside or outside the company, are part of the psychological contract. The authors employ a case study represented by an outsourcing centre belonging to a group of Italian banks, using the “qualitative and quantitative” mixed method. In the first phase, a series of interviews will help identify the key variables to develop a questionnaire for both customers and suppliers. The second phase will comprise the interviews and questionnaire formalization. The two themes, the psychological contract on the one hand and the outsourcing governance on the other hand, represent a highly relevant matter that has received scant attention in the literature

Corporate governance and enterprise risk management: Evidence from SMEs

    No full text
Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) has received little research attention in the context of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) even though SMEs may benefit from it at least as much as large companies. This study aims to contribute to the existing literature by investigating the role of Corporate Governance (CG) in fostering (inhibiting) ERM within the SMEs context. The empirical study is based on a survey questionnaire submitted to a sample of Italian SMEs. Drawing on previous studies, a holistic measure of ERM is developed relying on risk identification, assessment, and monitoring. SMEs’ CG features are depicted in terms of ownership (family versus non-family owned business), board of directors (collective board versus sole director) and managers (presence of external versus internal managers). Main results indicate that the absence of the family ownership and the presence of a board of directors are effective drivers of the ERM development in the SMEs context whilst the presence of external managers is not significant. Additional tests focused on the single ERM components confirm the main results. The research has both theoretical and practical implications shedding light on the fundamental role played by CG features in shaping ERM practices in the SMEs context

    The Innovation Agency: An Overview

    No full text
This book presents a collection of research papers exploring the human side of digital innovation management, with a specific focus on what people say and share on social media, how they respond to the introduction of specific IT tools, and how digital innovations are impacting sustainability and inclusion. Given the plurality of views that it offers, the book is particularly relevant for digital technology users, companies, scientists and governments. The overall spread of digital and technological advances is enhanced or hampered by people’s skills, behaviors and attitudes. The challenge of balancing the digital dimension with humans situated in specific contexts, relations and networks has sparked a growing interest in how people use and respond to digital innovations. The content of the book is based on a selection of the best papers – original double-blind peer-reviewed contributions – presented at the annual conference of the Italian chapter of the AIS, which was held in Milan, Italy, in October 2017
