Measurement of the lifetime
We present the measurement of the lifetime of the Omega_c we have performed using three independent data samples from two different decay modes. Using a Sigma- beam of 340 GeV/c we have obtained clean signals for the Omega_c decaying into Xi- K- pi+ pi+ and Omega- pi+ pi- pi+, avoiding topological cuts normally used in charm analysis. The short but measurable lifetime of the Omega_c is demonstrated by a clear enhancement of the signals at short but finite decay lengths. Using a continuous maximum likelihood method we determined the lifetime to be tau(Omega_c) = 55 +13-11(stat) +18-23(syst) fs. This makes the Omega_c the shortest living weakly decaying particle observed so far. The short value of the lifetime confirms the predicted pattern of the charmed baryon lifetimes and demonstrates that the strong interaction plays a vital role in the lifetimes of charmed hadrons. We present the measurement of the lifetime of the Ω c 0 we have performed using three independent data samples from two different decay modes. Misleading Advertising
THERE is such a thing as truthful advertising that is
misleading; it technically tells the truth, and yet conveys an impression which is false.
This form of advertising is practiced by some merchants who do not handle Hart Schaffner & Marx clothes; who
arc nol entitled to handle them, but who obtain a few garments
in an indirect way, and then advertise them widely, for lhc purpose of aiding in the sale of other goods.
The wearer who responds to such an advertisement. goeiTinto
(he store expecting to get our goods; he thinks he does get them,
trusting to the advertiser's statements. When he discovers that
he didn't get what he expected, he is disgusted, not necessarily
because the clothes he bought nay not be good clothes, but
because he has been fooled.
The worst thing about such misleading advertising is that it
misleads the merchant as well as his customer. It injures him
in a way he can't see or correct; and he thinks it helps him.
e It probably will be only a short time until such advertising
will be criminal, and will be punished by law. just as is now done
in some countries of Europe.

The origin of thc scholarship was
in the savings oi Lcland Stanford Jr.

thc time of his death, and his private
bank account, discovered afterwards,
revealed their existancc. With thc
money it was decided lo found this
jcholarship, the interest yearly to go
toward thc support of some worthy
student.

First Assembly Today.
President Jordan at the first University assembly of the semester, held
this morning- at 11:15 in the assembly
hall, gave the principal address. Hia
speech was along tbe lines of counsel,
espccailly to entering students, well
to improve the opportunities which
(he next few years will put .before
them for every man is given but one
chance. He advised the Freshmen to.
krep sway from those things which
tend to dissipate power and to take
away ambition, a student having too
good use of his strength to waste it
1 matters of no concern.
Arthur M. Dibble, '05, the president of the student body, also spoke
the students. He gave a brief outline of the good results which it is
Imped will flow from these university
emblies this year and presented
the student's point of view in participating in these general meetings.

the movements of immigration and
the growth of population in the New

Last Saturday evening Engineer

at the water works, met with an accident which laid him off for a couple
of days with a aprained arm. He
placed a ladder against the brick
wall of the boiler room to climb up
[and replace a broken water gauge. The
foot of the ladder slipped on the cement floor and let bim fall a distance
of six or eight feet. He was pretty
well shaken up but managed to blow
several sharp blasts of the whistle
to call help. He is now on duty again
