Writing gown: the challenges of making a new artwork about sexism within academia
The chapter uses the process of writing as a means of evoking an artwork, an embroidered academic gown, that at the time of writing remained unmade. The author investigates how the subject of the artwork, institutionalised sexism and internalised oppression, what Clance and Imes termed ‘Imposter Syndrome (1978) are responsible for the work not having been made. The author employs Laurel Richardson’s insights into writing as a way of bringing worlds into being to find out more about what the artwork looks like and what it means. The study’s originality lies in its imagining-into-existence of a new visual artwork via autoethnographic writing processes. The investigation is set within the context of three other works by women: Agnes’s jacket, Marguerite Duras’ essay ‘The Chest of Drawers’ and Rona Lee’s ‘Avid Metamorphosis 1’ as well as feminist theories of artwork by women involving stitching. The key conclusions that the study draws are its implicit revelation of the psycho-social make-up of the author both in and through the writing process and in relation to the ‘Gown’ artwork, which is seen to be as responsible for the artwork not being made as are the conditions of institutionalised sexism in which the author-academic-artist-woman is operating
Writing to Resist: Storying the Self and Audit Culture in Higher Education
This chapter builds on earlier work where the author wrote an autoethnodrama based on their autobiographical and researched experiences with academic life, specifically completing an autoethnographic doctorate whilst pregnant. The author identifies autoethnography as an empirical methodology that synthesizes autobiography and social critique in order to resist, and also change, dominant academic discourse, which she identifies as being male, hierarchical and non-democratic. By storying her experiences of the pressures of academic and personal life via a screenplay, the author argues that they have been able to adopt a more objective stance from which to critique the possible and real effects of neo-liberalism on academic culture. Evidence from the author's lived experiences has been used to inform the production of a full length script but the characters and plot are not imbued with autobiographical evidence in the same way as traditional autoethnography. This process has enabled the author to better understand themselves and their lived experiences of academia and to use this understanding as a strategy for surviving sexism. This triangulation of research-autobiography-script seeks to legitimize and value the experiences of the academic involved and maintain the balance between rigorous academic research and experiential autobiographical reflection. The author identifies this process as offering the potential for a more democratic and inclusive way of working in qualitative research where a woman may explore a more expansive and empowered self in a way that promotes civil and spiritual freedom and resists dominant oppressive structures that are synonymous with traditional academic life

Ferri Julkarnain, ST kepada PT. Sumber Mineral Nusantara melalui SK Nomor 188/45/357/004/2010. Effects of temperature and food availability on feeding and egg production of Calanus hyperboreus from Disko Bay, Western Greenland
The effects of temperature and food availability on feeding and egg production of the Arctic copepod Calanus hyperboreus were investigated in Disko Bay, western Greenland, from winter to spring 2009. The abundance of females in the near bottom layer and the egg production of C. hyperboreus prior to the spring bloom document that reproduction relies on lipid stores. The maximum in situ egg production (± SE) of 54 ± 8 eggs female−1 d−1 was recorded in mid-February at chlorophyll a concentrations below 0.1 µg l−1, whereas no egg production was observed in mid-April when the spring bloom developed. After reproduction, the females migrated to the surface layer to exploit the bloom and refill their lipid stores. In 2 laboratory experiments, initiated before and during the spring bloom, mature females were kept with and without food at 5 different temperatures ranging from 0 to 10°C and the fecal pellet and egg production were monitored. Food had a clear effect on fecal pellet production but no effect on egg production, while temperature did not have an effect on egg or fecal pellet production in any of the experiments. Analyses of carbon and lipid content of the females before and after the experiments did not reflect any effect of food or temperature in the pre-bloom experiment, whereas in the bloom experiment a clear positive effect of food was detected in female biochemical profiles. The lack of a temperature response suggests a future warmer ocean could be unfavorable for C. hyperboreus compared to smaller Calanus spp. which are reported to exploit minor temperature elevations for increased egg productio

Title: Lobbying in the Swedish parliament - a qualitative study about experiences and attitudes of lobbying among the members of the Swedish parliament, from a communication perspective. Author: Bodil Hassel and Kristofer Persson Tutor: Emma Svensson Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to study lobbying towards members of the Swedish parliament. We aim to study their point of view: what experiences and attitudes they have towards the phenomenon. Key questions to be answered are: What experiences and attitudes do the members of the Swedish parliamentary Committee on Environment and Agriculture have towards lobbying? What skills does a successful lobbyist possess, according to the members of the committee? How do the organizations Skogsindustrierna and Naturskyddsföreningen lobby? Method/Material: The material used in this study consists of interviews with nine respondents of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture in the Swedish parliament. Additionally, two informant interviews with the organizations Skogsindustrierna and Naturskyddsföreningen were made. The questions for the interviews were based on a theoretical framework based on policies of lobbying. Main results: The main results demonstrate that all members of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture have a positive attitude towards lobbying. The results further show that a professional lobbyist of choice by the members of parliament is a three-stage rocket consisting of 1) proper preparation, 2) the right way to make contact, and 3) maintenance of the relation.
The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between the methods of Hassel and Farman and Fishman in the determination of bone maturation. The study was retrospective. 292 lateral and carpal radiographs from the same patients between the ages of 7 to 18 were evaluated. Stage I of the method of Hassel and Farman was assigned to the stage I of the method of Fishman; stage II accounted for the stages I-III, the III also stages I-III, the stage IV to the III-VII, the V stage to the VII-X and the stage VI to the X-XI respectively. To determine the correlation between both methods were used coefficients of Kendall’s tau-b, Kendall's Tau-c, Gamma and Rho of Spearman, founding correlations of 0.75, 0.75, 0.87 and 0.86 respectively (p <0.01). Both methods presented significant correlation in the age group 7 to 10 years and 11 to 14 years, also in both men and women. We conclude that the method of Hassel and Farman has a highly significant correlation with the method of Fishman in the determination of bone maturation.
