Il Novum è l’Intero? Considerazioni a margine dell’intervento di Gabriele Boselli
What does define the Novum? Starting from this matter, raised by the article of Boselli edited on this Journal, the Author inquiries about the possibility of considering the a-priori a reliable scientific and cultural suggestionChe cosa definisce il Novum? A partire da questa domanda, sollevata dall’articolo di Boselli su questa Rivista, l’Autrice s’interroga sulla possibilità di considerare l’a-priori una proposta scientifica e culturale attendibile
«An anomaly in Algardi's oeuvre»: Orfeo Boselli e la cappella Patrizi in S. Maria Maggiore
The accounts kept in the Millini fonds of the Serlupi Crescenzi Archive have allowed the author to redefine the stages of the construction of the Patrizi chapel in the basilica of S. Maria Maggiore. At the same time, it was possible to ascribe the two portraits of Costanzo and Patrizio Patrizi, previously attributed by critics to an anonymous sculptor and to Alessandro Algardi, to the hand of Orfeo Boselli. This rediscovery makes it possible to add two important pieces to the autonomous production of the Roman sculptor, known essentially for his work as a restorer of antique sculptures. In addition, the author proposes to identify a bust made by Orfeo Boselli in a private collection, already erroneously identified as an effigy of Paolo Giordano II Orsini, as a portrait of Torquato Alessandri, a friend of Boselli's who is depicted in his mature age and in old-fashioned clothes to honour his military career
Influence of transpiration on Ca-concentration in berries and leaves of Cabernet sauvignon (Vitis vinifera L.).
Measurements of leaf blade and berry transpiration were carried out on Cabernet sauvignon (Vitis vinifera L.). At the same time samples of leaf blade, petioles and berries were picked up and their Ca concentration was determined. Leaf blade and berry transpiration rate changed during growth phases of berries. Under lower soil water availability, berry transpiration decreased proportionally to the decrease of leaf transpiration, whereas at higher soil water availability berry traspiration values was not influenced by higher leaf traspiration rate. Final values of transpiration rate had no influence on Ca concentration (mg/g f.w.), or on Ca content (% d.m.) of berries, which confirms previous results obtained in grapes under different environmental conditions and in apple
Modifications of dried basil (Ocinum basilicum) leaf oil by gamma and microwave irradiation
Dried basil leaves were irradiated with two different doses of gamma rays and with microwaves. Comparison with a blank sample was performed by capillary gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) which identified 47 peaks. Linalool and estragol showed the greatest increases with gamma-radiation and dropped with microwaves. The composition of essential oils was different, except for a few compounds which increased or decreased regardless of the treatment. Gamma radiation caused the most evident changes in the composition profiles. A sensory test confirmed significant differences between the extracts. The panellists preferred the gamma treated sample, while the microwaved sample was the least appreciated
Continuous Flow Telescoped Synthesis of Levetiracetam
Levetiracetam is one of the best sold antiepileptic drugs, and many efforts are done for the development of sustainable synthesis providing it. To develop innovative synthetic strategies, photocatalysis and flow chemistry emerges as victorious strategies. In this work, we report the development of a continuous flow telescoped process for the synthesis of Levetiracetam. The telescoped process is divided in three different stages, that are all merged in a single continuous process. In the first step the γ-lactam moiety is added to a cheap starting aldehyde through a photocatalytic strategy that enables the direct stereoselective introduction of the lactam ring, via nitrogen radicals. To the best of our knowledge, in the literature no example of nitrogen radical localized on lactam rings is described [1]: the innovative strategy proposed in this work, that combines photocatalysis and organocatalysis, was developed in our research group [2] by taking inspiration from a work of MacMillan and coworkers [3]. The desired aldehyde is obtained in a good yield and excellent enantiomeric excess. In the second stage, the continuous stream resulting from the first reaction stage is purified, using an in-line separator. Finally, in the third stage, the obtained aldehyde is oxidized to the corresponding amide, that represents the target compound itself.
Levetiracetam is achieved in a continuous telescoped process, with productivities and space-time yields improved respect to the corresponding conventional batch procedure, exploiting an innovative synthetic methodology not known in literature.
