No full text381 dogs between 4 and 18 months of age were tested for the presence of antibodies to Coccidioides one time. Dogs were reported as either healthy or sick by the referring veterinarian. Owners were asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their dog's risk factors associated with exposure to Coccidioides at the time of sample collection.The data analysis of this study was published in two articles: 1. No full textFour to six month old healthy puppies were enrolled in a longitudinal study of their serostatus against the Coccidioides spp. Dog were tested every six months for one year. At the request of investigators, some dogs continued to be tested every six months for two years. Dogs that became ill with clinical signs consistent with coccidioidomycosis received additional testing. Running away, Fear, Humiliation, Humiliation, Ridicule. The Jewish Odyssey in the Iconography of German Soldiers 1939–1941
No full textThe basis of the following article will be the subject’s iconography, which is a visual odyssey of the Jewish community in Poland from 1939–1941. In it, we will notice fear, horror, humiliation,
humiliation, ridicule and even murder. The photographs selected by the author introduce the reader to an overview of the events taking place in the first days and weeks of the German-led World War II, followed by military operations against the Soviets. Many of these shots, encapsulated in photographic frames, were taken by young (born 1920–1925) German soldiers seeing East-Polish Jews for the first time. In keeping with their National Socialist education and indoctrination, they sought them out for the photographs they took, which they then sent to their families in Germany. The frames depict: what such a war looked like and what it was. In these shots, young Germans identified with the speech of propagandist (Third Reich Minister) Joseph Goebbels (1897–1945), who on the subject of the photographs taken reported as follows: Here will be our modern artificial eye, the camera, for the swearing in of the testimony of the new time [...] Thus photography in the event of the day becomes a mission in which every
German who has a camera takes part. Also, the vocabulary created for this, indoctrinated with the National Socialist worldview of young soldiers, was an essential part of the Jewish odyssey. No full textsummary:In the paper the problem of mathematical properties of -operations and weak -operations introduced by the author for interpretation of connectives “and”, “or”, and “also” in fuzzy rules is considered. In previous author’s papers some interesting properties of fuzzy systems with these operations were shown. These operations are weaker than triangular norms used commonly for a fuzzy system described by set of rules of the type if – then. Monotonicity condition, required for triangular norms, is replaced by condition of positivity (negativity), i. e. operations must be only positively (negatively) defined. Weak -operations may not fulfill associativity condition

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Simulation of thermal plant optimization and hydraulic aspects of thermal distribution loops for large campuses
No full textFollowing an introduction, the author describes Texas A&M University and its utilities system. After that, the author presents how to construct simulation models for chilled water and heating hot water distribution systems. The simulation model was used in a $2.3 million Ross Street chilled water pipe replacement project at Texas A&M University. A second project conducted at the University of Texas at San Antonio was used as an example to demonstrate how to identify and design an optimal distribution system by using a simulation model. The author found that the minor losses of these closed loop thermal distribution systems are significantly higher than potable water distribution systems. In the second part of the report, the author presents the latest development of software called the Plant Optimization Program, which can simulate cogeneration plant operation, estimate its operation cost and provide optimized operation suggestions. The author also developed detailed simulation models for a gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator and identified significant potential savings. Finally, the author also used a steam turbine as an example to present a multi-regression method on constructing simulation models by using basic statistics and optimization algorithms. This report presents a survey of the author??s working experience at the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M University during the period of January 2002 through March 2004. The purpose of the above work was to allow the author to become familiar with the practice of engineering. The result is that the author knows how to complete a project from start to finish and understands how both technical and nontechnical aspects of a project need to be considered in order to ensure a quality deliverable and bring a project to successful completion. This report concludes that the objectives of the internship were successfully accomplished and that the requirements for the degree of Degree of Engineering have been satisfied
Deregulation for Development: A Tale of Two States
No full textEconomic stress led South Dakota and Delaware in the early 1980’s to eliminate their usury laws and enact other enabling legislation in an effort to attract a new industry and new jobs to their states. Sufficient time has now elapsed to assess the success of the policies adopted by these two states. Evidence suggests that both states benefited from their deregulatory actions but in different ways. These successful deregulations provide an important lesson for state-level authorities responsible for determining the regulatory environment.Regional Development, Deregulation, State Government Public Policy
