Intelligence of serial killers
In theorethical part of the thesis we first discuss intelligence, with the very interest of the meaning of its concept, its origin, the development through different age periods of human life, the deficits that lower or higher IQ represents for man, its interaction with the social environment, as a promoter of weaknesses or the advantages of predetermined genetic traits and further orientations and suggestions of research work. In addition to intelligence, we are dealing with serial killers, who are also classified into different types after a short introduction to history, describing their characteristics, explaining the sociological and psychological theories of their origin and subsequent activity, methods of investigating serial killings, which consists of methods of behavioral and geographical profiling.
In discussion part of the thesis, we explore the link between intelligence and serial killers. In search of answers, we are guided by our hypothesis and main research question. Through the study of domestic and foreign literature, we try to find the answer, if and to what extent the level of intelligence affects the way in which murders are committed by serial killers. Based on our findings, we provide suggestions and guidelines for further research work and suggestions for measures that could help reduce the occurence of serial killers
Greedy randomized adaptive search procedure for traveling salesman problem
In this thesis we use greedy randomize adaptive search procedure (GRASP) to solve
the traveling salesman problem (TSP). Starting with nearest neighbor method to
construct the initial TSP tour, we apply the 2-opt and the path-relinking method
for the initial tour improvement. To increase 2-opt search speed, fixed-radius near
neighbor search and don0t − look bit techniques are introduced. For the same reason
a new efficient data structure, the reverse array, is proposed to represent the TSP
tour. Computational results show that GRASP gives fairly good solutions in a short
time

Informetrics on M. N. Srinivas
M. N. Srinivas, the well known sociologist is widely recognised as architect of modern Indian sociology and social anthropology. His publications have been analysed by year, domain, authorship pattern, channels of communication used. Keywords, etc. The results indicate that the papers published by him are of a nature that qualify him to be a 'role model' for the younger generations to emulate.
By the end of 1995, Srinivas had to his credit 144 papers which, included 33 broad papers in sociology and anthropology; 18 papers in social change; 28 papers in village studies; 12 papers on religion; 17 papers on caste and 36 papers of general popular interest. The periods 1958-61 and 1974-77, when Srinivas was 38-41 and 58-61 years old. were his most productive periods with highest publication activity

A branch, price, and cut approach to solving the maximum weighted independent set problem
The maximum weight-independent set problem (MWISP) is one of the most
well-known and well-studied NP-hard problems in the field of combinatorial
optimization.
In the first part of the dissertation, I explore efficient branch-and-price (B&P)
approaches to solve MWISP exactly. B&P is a useful integer-programming tool for
solving NP-hard optimization problems. Specifically, I look at vertex- and edge-disjoint
decompositions of the underlying graph. MWISPs on the resulting subgraphs are less
challenging, on average, to solve. I use the B&P framework to solve MWISP on the
original graph G using these specially constructed subproblems to generate columns. I
demonstrate that vertex-disjoint partitioning scheme gives an effective approach for
relatively sparse graphs. I also show that the edge-disjoint approach is less effective than
the vertex-disjoint scheme because the associated DWD reformulation of the latter
entails a slow rate of convergence.
In the second part of the dissertation, I address convergence properties associated
with Dantzig-Wolfe Decomposition (DWD). I discuss prevalent methods for improving the rate of convergence of DWD. I also implement specific methods in application to the
edge-disjoint B&P scheme and show that these methods improve the rate of
convergence.
In the third part of the dissertation, I focus on identifying new cut-generation
methods within the B&P framework. Such methods have not been explored in the
literature. I present two new methodologies for generating generic cutting planes within
the B&P framework. These techniques are not limited to MWISP and can be used in
general applications of B&P. The first methodology generates cuts by identifying faces
(facets) of subproblem polytopes and lifting associated inequalities; the second
methodology computes Lift-and-Project (L&P) cuts within B&P. I successfully
demonstrate the feasibility of both approaches and present preliminary computational
tests of each
