Role of aggressivity on reactivity and craving before and after cue exposure in recently detoxified alcoholics: Results from an experimental study
The role of aggressivity and cue exposure in induction of craving were investigated in a clinical setting. Thirty abstinent alcoholic patients were divided into a low and a high aggressive group based on scores on the physical aggression subscale of the Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory and exposed to alcohol cues. Craving was measured by means of the Alcohol Craving Questionnaire (ACQ) and Visual Analogue Scales (VAS). Important findings are: (1) main effects of aggressivity on `emotionality', `purposefulness' and `expectancy' of ACQ were very significant; (2) on `drinking intention' and `craving for alcohol' of VAS, aggressivity and cue exposure showed a significant interaction; (3) the main effect of cue exposure on heart rate also reached a significance level of 0.007. The results were discussed in the context of the Classical, Operant Conditioning Theory, the Cognitive Craving Theory of Tiffany, Gilbert's STAR Model, and the Self-Medication Hypothesis Copyright (C) 2001 S. Continuous spectral decompositions of Abelian group actions on C∗-algebras
AbstractLet G be a locally compact Abelian group. Following Ruy Exel, we view Fell bundles over the Pontrjagin dual group of G as continuous spectral decompositions of G-actions on C∗-algebras. We classify such spectral decompositions using certain dense subspaces related to Marc Rieffel's theory of square-integrability. There is a unique continuous spectral decomposition if the group acts properly on the primitive ideal space of the C∗-algebra. But there are also examples of group actions without or with several inequivalent spectral decompositions

Silk manufacturing in Milan under Spanish rule : financing and organizational models
In the second half of the sixteenth century the silk 'industry' became the mainstay of Milanese manufacturing, with gold and silk fabric replacing wool cloth as the leading product in the city’s economy. It was silk processing and the associated production of gold thread that effectively boosted the duchy’s economy at the close of the Italian Wars, and made this area one of the richest and most advanced in the whole of Europe. Milan’s burgeoning silk industry found a powerful ally in the concurrent organisation of the embryonic local financing methods into a well-ordered system. While the reduction in information costs in the linkage between savings and investments increased the overall efficiency of the entire Milanese economy, the adoption of certain financial innovations – especially the widespread use of limited partnerships – was a big stimulus to the development of silk manufacturing. Under the organisational side, the consolidation of guilds represented a way for the leading city entrepreneurs to control production during the late-sixteenth century growth of silk manufacturing. But when new macroeconomic developments in the first decades of the seventeenth century shifted the fulcrum of Milanese industry towards semi-finished silk products, it was the large import-export businessmen who directly manoeuvred and ran a system of production that bypassed the guilds through a putting-out system mainly displaced in the rural area
