    Support for real-time decision making in Mobile Financial Applications

    Mobile users making real-time decisions based on current information need confidence about their context been taken into consideration in producing recommendations. This chapter reviews current use of mobile technologies for decision support. Specifically, it describes a framework for assessing the impact of mobility in decision-making. The framework uses dynamic context representation of data quality to represent uncertainties in the mobile computing environment. This framework can be used for developing visual interactive displays for communicating to the user relevant changes in data quality when working in mobile environment. As an illustration, this chapter proposes a real-time decision support procedure that aims at providing on-the-spot assistance to the mobile consumer when choosing the best payment option to efficiently manage the user’s budget. The proposed procedure is based on multi-attribute decision analysis, scenario reasoning and a quality of data framework. Feasibility of the approach is demonstrated with a mobile decision support system prototype implementation

    BI Views: Connection, Immersion, and Fusion Through the Lens of Emergence

    In the debate on the core of Information System (IS), El Sawy identified three faces of IS views: connection, immersion, and fusion. However, no research has further elaborated these concepts. For this task, we adopted the characteristics of the old concept of “emergence” to better describe and explain the shifts in IS from connection to immersion and finally towards fusion. A police organization is examined as a case study, and its Business Intelligence (BI) system and users and their interaction in solving daily tasks are observed. The study took place during two different time periods in 2009 and 2011. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used, including a survey and interviews. Two main user groups were identified in the police organization: viewers and analysts. The results of this study showed that in the context of viewers BI is in connection view and is slowly emerging into immersion. On the other hand, in the context of analysts BI is positioned in immersion view and, based on emergent properties, we concluded that there is potential for a slow emergence towards fusion once more capabilities are integrated in the BI system used by the analysts

    Rubrics are being used in a wide variety of disciplines in higher education to evaluate the assessments and provide feedback to students. Rubrics are traditionally implemented as paper-based table to grade assessments and provide feedback. The advancement of technology has integrated the Rubric Tool into Learning Management Systems (LMS) like Blackboard to facilitate online marking. In this conceptual paper, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of the Rubric Tool. We propose an integrated conceptual framework applying various theories from the extant literature to assess the effectiveness of the Rubric Tool. Furthermore, we use the framework to evaluate the effectiveness of the Blackboard LMS Rubric Tool applied in an undergraduate course for grading assessments under the settings of an Australian International University in Asia

    The trend towards globalisation and increased competitiveness across markets has meant\ud that many businesses are looking at solutions to increase efficiency. Businesses have\ud previously focussed on workforce levels and streamlined internal operations to achieve\ud efficiencies. Increasingly businesses are now looking at the supply chain and more\ud specifically procurement to provide additional efficiencies. Many companies are looking at e-\ud Procurement to increase efficiencies and decrease the bottom line. E-Procurement is\ud evolving as one of the shining lights in the evolving e-Business story and this paper will look\ud at a research survey of Australian organisations to determine what is driving and hindering\ud e-Procurement. A model of e-Procurement drivers and barriers is presented with an analysis\ud of the views of 38 organisations. The main outcomes of the survey show that cost based\ud factors are driving e-Procurement whilst technology issues are the main barriers to e-\ud Procurement. --ACIS 200

    Quantitative Analysis of Desirability in User Experience

    The multi-dimensional nature of user experience warrants a rigorous assessment of the interactive experience in systems. User experience assessments are based on product evaluations and subsequent analysis of the collected data using quantitative and qualitative techniques. The quality of user experience assessments is dependent on the effectiveness of the techniques deployed. This paper presents the results of a quantitative analysis of desirability aspects of the user experience in a comparative product evaluation study. The data collection was conducted using 118 item Microsoft Product Reaction Cards (PRC) tool followed by data analysis based on the Surface Measure of Overall Performance (SMOP) approach. The results of this study suggest that the incorporation of SMOP as an approach for PRC data analysis derive conclusive evidence of desirability in user experience. The significance of the paper is that it presents a novel analysis method incorporating product reaction cards and surface measure of overall performance approach for an effective quantitative analysis which can be used in academic research and industrial practice
