TESSELLATION OF GEOPLASTIC SHAPES THROUGH THE EMPLOYMENT OF REGULAR POLYHEDRA

    No full text
Geoplastics-related solutions are applied to generate the artifi cial terrain within the framework of landscape design projects. The proposed solutions are employed to generate a variety of geoplastic shapes capable of embodying particular design ideas. The author compares the proposed geoplastic solutions with the classical problem of mathematics that consists in the effective partition of the three-dimensional space into individual cells that represent non-overlapping polyhedra (tessellation). The proposed method of identifi cation of volumes of geoplastic shapes employs simple operations to make suffi ciently accurate calculations. Countours and dimensions of patterns designed hereunder make no impact onto the accuracy of calculations. Thus, the practical problem of generation of an artifi cial terrain within the framework of landscape design is simplifi ed. Therefore, the design process is reduced to the following sequence of actions: 1) Identifi cation of dimensions and contours of the geoplastic pattern; 2) Space fi lling with regular polyhedral that have preset dimensions through the employment of CINEMA 4D software; 3) Calculation of the overall volume; 4) Alteration of initial dimensions of the surfaces employed for fi lling purposes; 5) Comparison of the results

The present diploma thesis investigates Czec sociopolitical and translation reception of poet, journalist and dissident Natalya Gorbanevskaya. The thesis bases on the context from the Moscow Red Square demonstration against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 and maps its reception, which is above all in the Czech Republic an inseparable part of the image of this personage. Further, it introduces the life, literary output and poetics of Gorbanevskaya and makes translatological analysis of Czech translations of authorial parts from her book Red Square at Noon, cycle of eight-line-poems "Place de la non-Concorde" (Площадь несогласия) and other particular poems. Inseparable part of the thesis is also an interview with the author of Czech translations Milan Dvořák

Art, Science and Exploration: Rereading the Work of Remedios Varo

abstract: This essay reconsiders Remedios Varo's work within the context of her lifelong fascination with science as well as the broader epistemological and metaphysical questions driving the intellectual innovations of the 20th century. Varo's commercial illustration and late painting explicitly draw on the new physics, the hidden world of microbiology, the speculations of metaphysics, the world of engineering and mechanical design, as well as the intricate labor of the domestic sciences and crafts, as a way to explore the relationship between science and art on the one hand, and the old and the new on the other. In moving beyond the familiar rhetoric mystical, inspired, dream-like, esoteric that often accompanies an appreciation of Varo's work, this essay explores her interest in a range of scientific themes and intellectual ideas which were central to the Surrealist movement's interdiscplinary engagement

Kimono threads: unraveling ontologies, epistemologies, and ethics

What is kimono? How do we know what we know about kimono, and whose voices matter? Who should (or should not) wear kimono? Repeated protests, social media engagement, and boycotts have underscored the exigent nature of these divisive questions, particularly for those interested in fashion, aesthetics, and cultural exchange. This thesis presents an extended reflection on these themes in the form of three essays. In the essays, I draw on interviews with wearers of kimono, public discourse on kimono from news outlets and social media spaces, English-language scholarly writing about kimonos, and autoethnographic anecdotes from my own experiences wearing kimono in Japan and the U.S. to show how the simplest answers to these questions only scratch the surface of people’s diverse experiences of kimono. Each essay “remixes” the same set of sources to examine a different angle on kimono knowledge: kimono ontologies, kimono epistemologies, and kimono ethics. I think with grassroots theorists, kimono enthusiasts, and activists to present alternative approaches to these questions that begin to fill in the gaps left behind by the macro-level approach prevalent in social media discourse and English-language scholarly writing on the kimono. I argue that attention to specificity is the first step we should take in course-correcting away from easy answers toward a more complex engagement with the breadth of ways that different people use and think about kimono.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I Access', the embargo will last until 2023-08-01The student, Natalya Rodriguez, accepted the attached license on 2021-07-16 at 14:28.The student, Natalya Rodriguez, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2021-07-16 at 14:41.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2021-07-19 at 13:25.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #16988 on 2022-01-12 at 12:55:27Made available in DSpace on 2022-01-12T22:35:19Z (GMT). Possible ways and forms of attaching of children and teenagers to reading on the basis of acquaintance and study at school of modern children and teenage literature are examined in the paper; the leading role of teachers of philology is underlined in the process of forming of reader culture of rising generation. On the example of studying of work of S. Vostokova “Frosya Korovina” working methods with the text on the principle “a polylogue” a teacher – an author – students

Qualitative Analysis of Online News Media Articles to Explore the Mobilization of Megaproject Narratives

    No full text
Megaprojects combine multiple external stakeholders, and a common narrative is essential to drive the project among often conflicting objectives. The research project considers the single in-depth qualitative case study of the High Speed Two (HS2) megaproject in the UK to explore how narratives are mobilized through narrative instruments and processes. Since the focus is on narratives, 113 online news articles on the megaproject are systematically studied. A qualitative analysis using open codes and axial codes is employed to understand the narrative instruments and processes. The “talk the walk” strategy to improve the rigor in qualitative research is described. The use of power quotes and proof quotes to reduce the word count while not compromising on the trustworthiness of qualitative research is explained. Finally, the case offers guidelines on the use of online naturalistic data such as digital news media data to explore project management practice in the 21st century.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Integral Design & Managemen

Using Innovation Stories From Digital Platforms to Explore What Motivates Innovation

    No full text
The objective of this research study was to investigate the role of narratives in shaping multiple innovations in the UK construction industry. A total of 133 innovation stories published in a year are compiled from a digital portal Infrastructure Industry Innovation Partnership (i3P). The stories are qualitatively analyzed using open coding, axial coding, and constant comparisons to understand their motivations. The resulting framework explains how narrative shapes innovation across health, safety, sustainability, and productivity. The use of online research methods has increased in the modern era with the internet becoming more interactive and ubiquitous. However, there is still limited knowledge on how to handle these large amounts of digital data. In this case study, we provide some practical steps to improve data collection, analysis and presentation of online data. All innovations for a year were collected to get a representative sample without excluding any to reduce the researcher bias of exclusion. During presentation of findings, steps were undertaken to guard the privacy of respondents.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Integral Design & Managemen

The recent experiences in the building, maintenance and reuse of ontologies has shown that the most efficient approach is the collaborative one. However, communication between collaborators such as IT professionals, librarians, web designers and subject matter experts is difficult and time consuming. This is because there are different reasoning strategies, different logics and different kinds of knowledge representation in the applications of Semantic Web. This article intends to be a reference scheme. It uses concise and simple explanations that can be used in common by specialists of different backgrounds working together in an application of Semantic Web
