Cumhuriyet Dental Journal: A New Mission and Vision to Be a Global Journal
Get PDFFirst issue of the Cumhuriyet Dental Journal (CDJ, formerly
known as Journal of Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Dentistry) was published
in 1998. It has been twenty years from the beginning of CDJ and the world and
academia has changed during these years. We have made a very intense effort, especially
in the last years, in order to follow the innovations and changes in the world
and academia and to adapt them to CDJ. For this purpose, we have also made some
changes in scope and vision of CDJ in the last year. CDJ currently aims to be
an internationally known journal and makes every effort to achieve this aim.
As a result of our submissions, CDJ is currently indexed in
internationally known SCOPUS, DOAJ and INDEX COPERNICUS and under evaluation
for WEB
of SCIENCE (ESCI). In 2018, the CDJ has
received 172 submissions and has published 52 articles. These issues presented
a wide range of high quality articles including original research articles,
review and clinical case reports. CDJ has begun to publish quarterly since
2018. CDJ currently accepts articles in only English.
We hope all members of CDJ including Editors-in-Chief, Editorial
Board members, authors, reviewers, and readers will help us consolidate the
Cumhuriyet Dental Journal among our peers and spread it to the international
community.

Apical extrusion of debris in primary molar root canals using mechanized and manual systems

treatment has not been well elucidated. The purpose
of this study is to compare the amount of apically
extruded debris during the preparation of primary
molar root canals using ProTaper, ProTaper Next, Self adjusting File (SAF) and hand files.
Methods One hundred sixty extracted primary
mandibular molar teeth were assigned to 2 groups:
Group 1: Resorbed (n=80) and Group 2: Non resorbed (n=80) and randomly to four subgroups
(n=20 teeth for each subgroup) according to the
instruments used, ProTaper, ProTaper Next, SAF, and
hand file. The apically extruded debris was collected
and dried in preweighed Eppendof tubes. The dry
weight was calculated by subtracting the preoperative
weight from the postoperative weight. Statistics: Data
were analysed statistically using the ANOVA and the
Bonferroni post hoc t-test.
Results The amount of apically extruded debris was
significantly less for the non-resorbed group compared
to the resorbed group (P<0.05). Regardless of the
resorption groups, ProTaper Next and SAF extruded
significantly less debris than did the ProTaper and
hand files (P<0.05), while no statistically significant
difference was found between ProTaper Next and SAF
(P>0.05).
Conclusion All instruments caused apically extruded
debris in primary teeth

Get PDFIn 2019, Cumhuriyet Dental Journal underwent a major renewal with its rich content and increasing international colleagues. As a result of the process I managed with the vision that Cumhuriyet Dental Journal should be a more internationally recognized journal, in 2019 we had the opportunity to publish the articles of many authors from different countries. I hope that the number of authors from other countries in Cumhuriyet Dental Journal will increase gradually next year.
Cumhuriyet Dental Journal received 235 submissions in 2019 and reached the highest level in its publication history. However, our acceptance rate is 26%. For this reason, the review process of our journal has become more selective.
The new policy of our journal to be held since 2020, and revised Author Guideline is now published in our website. The authors, who will also submit new papers to Cumhuriyet Dental Journal, should carefully examine the relevant sections and submit their papers according to the writing rules.
In 2020, Cumhuriyet Dental Journal will welcome new prestigious Associate Editors and Editorial Board members. I would like to also welcome all colleagues who would like to join Cumhuriyet Dental Journal.
I owe many thanks to the people who contributed to the development of Cumhuriyet Dental Journal. First of all, I would like to thank the readers who followed the rich content of our journal. I would like to thank the Authors for their great effort and papers. I have special thanks to the Editorial Board members and Associate Editors. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Dental trauma is one of the most important problems among children in dental practice. Traumatic dental injuries are commonly seen at schools. Thus, teachers must be able to make emergency dental procedures. Within this rationale, assessing teacher’s attitude and knowledge about dental trauma in children is critical.
This article revealed that the attitude toward dental trauma in children was positive whereas, knowledge about dental trauma was insufficient among the teachers.

Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
