In this thesis, I have conducted an analysis of the short story “Vi kan ikke hjelpe alle”, published by Ingvild H. Rishøi in 2014. I focus on how the author uses realism as a literary device, and the effect of this realism. Furthermore, I research whether the short story is classical in its form and content, or if Rishøi revitalizes the genre in any way. Annemette Hejlsted’s analysis form for short stories has formed the method for the analysis. The most important findings are that the level of detail and realism in this short story, incorporates the reader into the fictional universe, which in extension makes it easier for the reader to feel sympathy for the characters and their story. In my analysis, Rishøi is compared to Amalie Skram, who uses her realism to create a universe which encompasses the struggles and discomfort of the real world. I classify Rishøi as a neorealistic short story author, due to her modern content, realistical way of writing and the lack of a life altering event. This analysis has given me an insight that Rishøi’s short stories could be used to help students become aware of the social differences in Norway

The genre short story has been in the center of quite alot of critizism through out history, in modern time some are even arguing for it being utdated. This theisis is exploring how Kjell Askildsen manages the short story as a genre, in one of his short stories; Carl Lange. The methodical framework is based on Annemette Hejlsteds analysis form, whitch is developed with the intent to be able to recognize how an author is managing the short story genre, in a written work. The result for the analysis shows that Askildsen is using a alot of well known features for the short story, old as well as new. I'm concluding that Askildsen manages the short story genre with a lot of thought and diligence

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Norsk Instagram-poesi.

With precise, humorous and serious depictions, Marit Eikemo is considered one of the sharpest writers of our time. This Master's thesis is an exploration of her latest collection of novellas, Hardanger (2019), conducted in a genre and satire theoretic light. First, i want to examine which perspectives from the novella theory are most appropriate to apply to the collection. The goal is to better understand the work by showing how such a recent collection of novellas coincides with an older novella tradition. From Boccaccio to Goethe to Eikemo, there is no doubt that the novella genre has long traditions. In this Master’s thesis, I draw a distinction between the classic and the modern novella tradition. This is expedient in order to clarify the genre development of the novella. The method employed in this Master's thesis is close reading, and the analysis of the novellas is divided according to which connection to Hardanger the main characters represent. The four subgroups are the hardings, the tourists, the nostalgics and the outcasts. The analysis shows that several of the novellas fit the style of the classic novella theory, especially when it comes to the framework narrative as a structure, event orientation and satire in the thematic. The analysis thus shows how the satire in the work is not a mistake, as some of the reviewers believe it to be, but rather a classic feature that works well in interaction with the other features. Although some of the novellas are written in a more modern tradition, with a greater focus on conveying a mood, it works expediently for the overall frame narrative. This reinforces the complexity of the work and the realistic mode of the collection as a whole

Danish author Jonas Eika became the youngest ever to win the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2019, with the novella collection After the Sun (2018). Eika's groundbreaking novellas challenge established ideas about the genre, and the themes offer confusion. The characters of these novellas suffer in repressed roles, and they long for meaning in a distorted variant of the present. The purpose of this master's thesis is to look for continuity, severance or renewal of the novella genre, through a close reading of the novellas "Alvin", "Bad Mexican Dog" and "Rachel, Nevada". This is done in the light of the historical development of the novella genre, from Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron (ca. 1350-1353) to as far as contemporary times. The analysis pays certain attention to Johann W. Goethe's concept of novellas - the unheard-of event that already has occurred - as a constitutive genre feature. It also considers the novella as a socially critical form of expression. The analysis concludes with "Alvin" as the only event-driven text, as a clear extension of classical genre theory. With fragmented structure, grotesque images and confusing symbolism, "Bad Mexican Dog" must be read with different expectations than the label on the book cover suggests. The two texts criticize hyper capitalism and the tourism industry, respectively, as oppressive systems. "Rachel, Nevada" also has an unconventional novella structure, but the inner logic is more present than in its predecessor. On the other hand, the critique in this text has shifted more to an interest in extraterrestrial life and alternative unity

Låtene som analyseres i denne avhandlingen er: • Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) – Edison Lighthouse (GB) • Solskinn inni Blådressen min – Vazelina Bilopphøggers (no.) • Sån är min värld – Jigs (se.) • Han er herlig – Ulla Pia (dk.) • The Wanderer – Dion (USA) • Kung I Stan – Arvingarna (se.) • På Vål’enga – Vazelina Bilopphøggers (no.) • Volleborg – Bamses Venner (dk.)This thesis deals with two songs as origins and three adaptations of each of these within popular music in Scandinavia between approximately 1955 and 1999. Relevant context and theory are presented, as well as readings of the two original songs and each of the adaptations. Two songs are presented in each of the languages English, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, and in addition to literature, elements of musicology also appear, because the lyrics are part of a larger product. Among other things, originality and authenticity are discussed. The results of this research show that in many, but not all cases coincidences in structure and form can be found, even if the semantics are different. We also see that popular music in many cases has an almost consistently consistent theme (love), but that the relationships found in the lyrics are varied. The songs analyzed in this thesis are: • Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) – Edison Lighthouse (GB) • Solskinn inni Blådressen min – Vazelina Bilopphøggers (no.) • Sån är min värld – Jigs (se.) • Han er herlig – Ulla Pia (dk.) • The Wanderer – Dion (USA) • Kung I Stan – Arvingarna (se.) • På Vål’enga – Vazelina Bilopphøggers (no.) • Volleborg – Bamses Venner (dk.
