In considering another reprint, two decades after its initial release, the author Bruce Hamon was aware that the region has experienced considerable
development since the early 1990s and it is appropriate to consider these changes. Bruce was also aware of research conducted into particular historical episodes associated with the region since the original publication, which augments his account presented in They Came to Murramarang. Furthermore, he felt that the original text provided only a brief glimpse into the rich story of the Indigenous custodians of the country, even though the book presented a fascinating account of early colonial frontier conflict. In incorporating these changes and discoveries, Bruce sought assistance from sociologist Dr Alastair Greig, along with that of Dr Sue Feary, an archaeologist with extensive knowledge of Indigenous history and environmental policy in the region
Révisions transatlantiques : une expérience de télécollaboration entre l’Université Ca’ Foscari et Bentley University
No full textThe aim of this work is to present the ins and outs of a telecollaboration project between an American university (Bentley University) and Ca\u27 Foscari University. This project targets oral production and revision skills around an authentic language object, the video CV. Between March and April 2021, the author and a colleague from Bentley University set up a collaborative video CV revision project between 10 American FLE students and 13 students from Ca\u27 Foscari University of Venice, Italy (CEFR level B1-B2 for both groups). After a preparation phase started in December 2020 on both sides of the Atlantic, the device was implemented with work phases in synchronous and asynchronous modality. First, we will provide a theoretical framework concerning the use of telecollaboration mediated by computer for didactics of French as a foreign language. Then, we will go into more detail on the organisation, the setting up of the project and the modalities, the course of the exchanges and the tools used. Finally, we will present the first results obtained through this project and raise some issues about some negative outcomes.L’objectif de ce travail est d’exposer les tenants et aboutissants d’un projet de télécollaboration entre une université américaine (Bentley University) et l’université Ca’ Foscari de Venise. Ce projet vise les compétences de production et de révision orales autour d’un objet langagier authentique, le CV vidéo. Entre Mars et Avril 2021 compris, l’auteur et une collègue de l’université américaine de la Bentley University ont mis en place un projet de révision collaborative de curriculum vitae au format vidéo entre 10 étudiant.es de FLE américains et 13 étudiant.es de l’université Ca’ Foscari (niveau B1-B2 du CECRL). Après une phase de préparation engagée dès décembre 2020 des deux côtés de l’Atlantique, le dispositif a été mis en œuvre avec des phases de travail en modalité synchrone et asynchrone. Dans un premier temps, nous fournirons un cadre théorique concernant le recours à la télécollaboration médiée par ordinateur en didactique du Français Langue Etrangère. Ensuite, nous reviendrons plus en détail sur l’organisation, la mise en place du projet et les modalités, le déroulement des échanges et les outils utilisés. Nous présenterons enfin les premiers résultats obtenus par le biais de ce projet et soulèverons les problématiques qui ressortent de résultats mitigés

A Serious Game for Changing Mindsets About Loans for Home Retrofitting
No full textAdding energy-saving products to your house can benefit the economy, the environment and your living comfort. However, these products are very costly, and many people cannot afford them using their own savings. There exist several options for funding these projects, but people do not take advantage of such due to lack of information and the common negative view on using external funding. Psychological objections on taking loans include future time perspective, perception of short time rewards and connotation of loans itself. This paper presents a serious game aimed at changing people’s mindset on taking loans to retrofit energy into their homes; Supreme Green Time Machine is a tycoon game in which you can acquire energy-saving products for your home. A main mechanic in the game is the opportunity to take loans to fund the purchase of these upgrades. Combined with other underlying mechanics, such as the time progress and social feedback, the game targets the different psychological objections to long term loans for home retrofitting. A Serious Game for Students to Acquire Productivity Habits
No full textIn recent years there has been an increasing shift from traditional work to knowledge work. Students are not always well prepared for such a work mode and struggle with time and energy management, leading to stress and long unhealthy study sessions. There are many applications aimed at developing productivity habits. A few of them are somewhat gamified, although they are especially focused on real-world to-do lists, lacking a strong narrative and appeal, especially to students. We present the serious game BusyBusy, specifically designed for college students. The game revolves around the capture and reflection steps of David Allen’s Getting Things Done methodology. L'Autorité dissimulée - l'autorité manifeste [Elektronisk resurs] : L'écriture de la violence chez Yasmina Khadra
No full textThis study examines the representation of violence in two novels by Algerian author Yasmina Khadra (1955 - ): Les Agneaux du Seigneur (1998) and À quoi rêvent les loups (1999). The narrative techniques employed in these texts and, more directly, the assertions made by the author in interviews and autobiographical works give the impression of a writer aiming to impose on the reader a specific view of the Algerian civil war (1992-1998) while at the same time asserting that the novels are objective representations of the same historical period. This authoritative position, it is argued, is surprising in the light of two discourses. According to the first, events of extreme violence are fundamentally inexpressible and therefore any work of art dealing with such events must find a way to express this inexpressibility. Secondly, many historians, journalists and writers argue that the civil war in Algeria was particularly ungraspable, and eludes being rendered affirmatively in any work, fictional or not. The study aims to explain how Yasmina Khadra construes his authority in the fictional texts and via his performance in the media. The concepts of a dissimulated authority and a manifest authority are conceived in order to elucidate the ambiguous discourse created by Khadra in which we find both a need to convince the reader of the legitimacy of his rendering of the violent events and a tendency to explicitly take control of and guide our interpretation of the novels. The final chapter of the dissertation argues that Khadra’s prolific use of animal vocabulary at once dissimulates and makes manifest the idea of an author wanting to impose certain ideas and ‘truths’ on the reader. In the conclusion it is suggested that the violence of the novels extends beyond the subject matter into Khadra's very approach to writing: that the two novels do not so much reflect the idea of the violence as a creator of chaos, but rather, in browbeating the reader into a passive role, end up imitating the very forcefulness and single-mindedness of violence itself. The methodological approach of the study consists of a close reading as well as a thorough contextualization of the novels. The classical narratological concepts established by Gérard Genette are used to examine the dominant narrative modes of the stories. In explaining the ways in which Khadra proceeds to persuade the reader of the truth-value of the texts the theory on realistic discourse developed by Philippe Hamon constitutes an important reference.</p
