Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Swimming project models for people with visual disabilities
Dessa forma, pode-se concluir que, de acordo com as características, as possibilidades e os objetivos de cada município, existem diferentes formas para o desenvolvimento de projetos de natação que envolvam as pessoas com deficiência, dentre elas a pessoa com deficiência visual, destacando aqui a importância dessa prática para o desenvolvimento, tanto no plano físico quanto nos planos psicológico, emocional, social e motivacional, deste indivíduoAbstract: Swimming is currently considered, because of its possibilities of practice in relation with the different forms of manifestation (from initiation to high performance), one of the most widespread and practiced sports in the world. However, it is noted that this phenomenon does not extend with intensity to the population with disabilities, even considering the current growth of adapted sports, due mainly to its dissemination through international events, like the Paralympic Games. We have found that swimming cannot be considered an effective reality for people with visual disabilities in our country yet, although it is possible to prove that we have: 1- information about the benefits of practicing water activities; 2 - knowledge about the development of pedagogical processes; 3 - a legalization which foresees the right of access to these educational and sporting practices. The goal of this project is to describe the development and structure of two representative regional projects in the area that stand out and have nationwide repercussions, aiming at swimming for people with disabilities. It is necessary to disclose the importance and the possibility of sports initiatives that contemplate people with visual impairments in swimming practices, in addition to exposing models that can contribute to the development of future studies and projects with this same purpose, seeing as today it is essential for a growing and favorable conduction of this practice. To that end, two questionnaires were applied, one to the representatives of the projects in the cities of Jundiai - SP and Indaiatuba - SP, and the other for people with visual impairments who practice swimming within these same projects. From the qualitative analysis of the results, we realized that despite the two projects present excellent results in the consolidation of the swimming practice by the people with visual disabilities, both in the plan of initiation as well as in the competitive plan of adapted swimming, the goals of creation and the forms of their development took place in a completely different way when comparing the two projects of the different municipalities. Thus, it is concluded that, according to the characteristics, the possibilities and objectives of each municipality, there are different ways to develop swimming projects that involve people with disabilities, among them the visually impaired person, highlighting here the importance of this practice for the development of the physical, psychological, emotional, social and motivational plans of this individualMestradoAtividade Fisica AdaptadaMestra em Educação Físic
Swimming programs for people with disabilities in Brazil
It can be noticed through the studies that have already been carried out in relation to the benefits brought by the practice of aquatic activities and the pedagogical processes related to the teaching and learning experience of this activity for this specific population. In addition, other factors can be considered, such as the development of laws that provides the right of these individuals to participate in sports activities, to increase the offer of sporting events in which a person with a disability can perform, which in turn, results in a dissemination of such practice. Thus, many programs are being developed involving the practice of swimming by person with disabilities. However, we can notice that these programs are developing randomly throughout the country, without proper monitoring by the government of its main characteristics and needs. It is believed that, from a survey of these data, places where there aren¿t many opportunities would be identified, contributing to the development of precise actions in these places. Thus, this study aimed to map the Brazilian institutions that offer swimming to person with disabilities with the main purpose of high-performance athletes. From this mapping, the objective was to analyze all programs found, in order to highlight their main developmental characteristics. For this, the research was divided in two distinct moments. Firstly, all the institutions that could work with swimming for people with disabilities were mapped, this was made through the main regional, state and national competitions and from documents provided by confederations of Paralympic sports. In a second moments, a questionnaire was applied to the persons responsible for the programs that were found in order to collect the data referring to the research, after the collection by the researchers, the data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study shown that 48% of the institutions found offer swimming for people with disabilities. In addition, there is a noticeable difference between the distribution of these programs within the Brazilian regions, the Southeast region concentrates approximately 52% of this activity. Another result shows that 34% of the institutions, approximately, receive governmental contribution for the development of the project and 85% of the programs weren¿t developed from governmental incentives. Thus, it can be concluded that the practice of swimming for people with disabilities is not yet accessible for these individuals in Brazil, and that the government incentives must be reassessed in order to facilitate the development of new programs and their grater scope in the Brazilian territoryDoutoradoAtividade Fisica AdaptadaDoutora em Educação Física4373/2015CAPE
