Methodische Herausforderungen der Analyse intertextueller Bezüge – am Beispiel von Editorials in Kundenzeitschriften
Our paper deals with intertextual references in German, Swedish and Finnish editorials. The study is based on 45 editorials in the customer magazines Apotheken Umschau, Apoteket and Terveydeksi, which are the most widely spread customer magazines in the pharmacy sector in Germany, Sweden and Finland. A first, qualitative analysis of our corpus showed that intertextual references range from explicit ones including several linguistic features of intertextuality to implicit ones without evident linguistic features at all (Breckle und Enell-Nilsson 2015). In order to be able to make a further comparison between languages, a quantification of various aspects seems to be indispensable. However, this brings about methodological challenges. This paper deals with two quantifications and their challenges: Firstly, the quantification of reference texts to which the intertextual features refer raises the question how to deal with split references and secondary reference texts. Secondly, the quantification of linguistic features within the intertextual references leads to a complex puzzle with several qualitative factors which should be taken into account, e.g. the combination of attributes
An essay on the life and work of the Swedish literary critic Margit Abenius (1899-1970) and on her various social networks. The essay focuses on Margit Abenius' life-long depression and on its impact on her professional career. The aim is to study whether, and in what way, Abenius handled her desease and how she managed to make it a resource in her work as a literary critic and author. The essay is a part of Marta Ronne's research project on Margit Abenius and the Swedish literary critique 1930-1970 (book in progress).</p

Because of its complexity, the concept of motivation in foreign language learning is difficult to grasp and to define; there is still no single definition of the term. However, motivation is thought to be extremely important for successful foreign language learning, consisting of many different motivation factors. This article deals with perspectives of motivation in foreign language learning. Based on the Lithuanian part of the research study Deutschlernmotivation (potenzieller) Deutschlernender in Estland, Lettland und Litauen, it focuses on the factors, which influence the choice of and against German, with Lithuania as an example. In the article, I present selected quantitative results of the study. The results show that the learners of German, the former learners and the non-learners tend to be satisfied with their respective (non-)choice of German. A clear majority of the respondents considers German to be important / useful for work, for travel, and in terms of knowledge. They also think that the knowledge of German is highly desirable; however, more than a third of the learners fear to speak German (or another language). German is looked upon as a difficult language and the majority of the respondents do not regard German lessons as easy. Last but not least, almost half of the former learners feel that German lessons are too labor-intensive
Sprachenwahl und Sprachkenntnisse zukünftiger Ökonomen in Finnland: Am Beispiel der Hanken School of Economics in Vaasa
This paper deals with language choice in terms of languages other than English and language skills of future economists at the Hanken School of Economics in Vaasa/Finland. German is the most frequently chosen language, followed by Spanish. With focus on German, it is investigated (i) how the future economists assess their own German skills, (ii) what objective language skills they have in German and (iii) what the relationship is between objective German skills and length of previous German language instruction. The paper shows that at the beginning of their studies at the Hanken School of Economics in Vaasa, the future economists attest themselves “no” to “very good knowledge” of German. The objective German language skills, measured by the C-test-based onSET Deutsch, typically increase from course level to course level. However, there is quite a large variation within each of the course levels German I, German II and German III. There is a tendency for objective German language skills to improve with the length of previous German language instruction. Nevertheless, it is possible that individual future economists achieve a better global language competence in German after two years of previous German language instruction than others after eight or nine years
