During the 2008 run the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at the Brookhaven Nation Laboratiory (BNL), NY, provided high luminosity in both p+p and d+Au collisions at sNN=200GeV\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200\mathrm{\,GeV}. Electromagnetic calorimeter acceptance in STAR was enhanced by the new Forward Meson Spectrometer (FMS), and is now almost contiguous from $-

In silico analysis of co-evolution among ERMES proteins, Pex11 and Lam6

In eukaryotic cells communication and dynamic interactions among different organelles are important for maintaining cellular homeostasis. The Endoplasmic-Reticulum (ER) Mitochondria Encounter Structure (ERMES) complex establishes membrane contact sites between ER and mitochondria and is essential for phospholipid transport, protein import and mitochondrial dynamics and inheritance. In this work, in-silico analyses were used to probe the intramolecular interactions in ERMES proteins and the interactions that support the ERMES complex. Based on Mutual Information (MI), sites of intramolecular co-evolution are predicted in the core proteins Mmm1, Mdm10, Mdm12, Mdm34, the peroxisomal protein Pex11, and cytoplasmic Lam6; these sites are linked to structural features of the proteins. Intermolecular co-evolution is predicted among the synaptotagmin-like mitochondrial lipid-binding protein (SMP) domains of Mmm1, Mdm12 and Mdm34. Segments of Pex11 and Lam6 also share MI with the SMP domains of Mmm1 and Mdm12, and with the N-terminus of Mdm34, implicating Mdm34 as part of a hub for interactions between ERMES and other complexes. In contrast, evidence of limited intermolecular co-evolution involving the outer membrane protein Mdm10 was detected only with Mmm1 and Pex11. The results support models for the organization of these interacting proteins and suggest roles for Pex11 and Lam6 in regulating complex formation. The accepted manuscript in pdf format is listed with the files at the bottom of this page. This paper highlights the importance of the work of Torquato Tasso for European culture through an analysis of some significant moments of his legacy, in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. After a brief investigation of the musical theatre, we will focus on the connection between Tasso’s works and those of Rousseau, Goethe and Goldoni. Our essay ends with an analysis of the presence of Tasso in Manzoni, especially considering the parody of canto xvi of Jerusalem Delivered, written by the Milanese author with his friend Ermes Visconti : Manzoni’s reflection (including that on Tasso’s poetry) seems to find its perfect place within the European cultural landscape

The public tv broadcasting at the bottom of the young Spanish democracy. The article examines a long essay written by Virginia Martín Jiménez, a young scholar of Valladolid University, The Spanish tv and Democratic Transition. The political communication of Change (1976-1979), published by Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid in 2013. The book draws the history of Spain during a very special period, the transition from dictatorship to democracy. The author presents a very detailed version of the different steps moved by political and media actors: from the first video-speech by Adolfo Suárez (1976), Prime Minister charged by the king Juan Carlos of the Transition's political responsibility, to the campaign's broadcasting representation of the national elections after the new Contitution's approval (1979). The essay by Martín Jiménez represents a successful effort to combine historical, political and media investigation

IDEOLOGY AND CRITICISM OF CULTURE IN BOLIVAR ECHEVERRÍA. Elements of a decolonial theory of communication. If culture is growing and transforming creation, productive action directed, vía paideia, the social being, the work of Bolívar Echeverría on the role of the symbolic or immaterial constitutes a fundamental contribution to a critical theory of ideology in the era of hypermediacy. From the Marxism to Baroque, politics and the political, the interconnections of thoughts projected break points and vital breakup for the social change that is just considered in current studies of spin-colonial Latin America. This article analyzes the contribution of Bolívar Echeverría works from analysis of ideology considering the semiotic work from the whole cultural dimension or symbolic production in relation to social practices and processes of reproduction of capitalism. Accepting that our time is the Neo-Baroque era, the era of the image, the cornucopia of language and culture of gamification, the article explores the highlights interpretive elements in the thesis of the baroque ethos of the author to analyze the dominant forms of symbolic power in the struggle for their own code called Cognitive Capitalis

Is it (im)possible the Republic of Commons? From Kouroukanfouga to local self-government and return. The article discusses the issue of the Commons government. After analyzing the divergence of perspectives between Private Law and Constitutional Law Scholars, the author focuses on the transition of constitutionalism from the “biochemistry Era” to the “fossil Era” in order to investigate the consequences of this evolution in local democracy experiences. Only in this perspective, it is possible to identify differences and limitations of both theories (like those proposed by Ostrom and Wilson) and of the historical experiences (from the Kouroukanfouga Charter to the Constitution of Ecuador) of the Commons government

In 1987 Carlo Formenti wrote an essay dedicated to Prometheus and Hermes. In that book Formenti has been analysing the character of Prometheus the Titan as the symbol of the working class and its intellectuals. In that phase, few years before the fall of the Berlin Wall, the crisis of the traditional revolutionary myths led the author to recognise a new symbol in Hermes, sensitive to a post-ideological attitude and ready to interpret the new egalitarian myths born with the internet. Today Formenti comes back to the issue and describes a further drastic disenchant

“Fate is revealed subspecies adventure”. Il romanzo di Criss Kenton by Hugo Pratt. The essay examines the first novel written by Hugo Pratt. The novel, published in 1990, marks the transition from the cartoons to traditional literature. Il romanzo di Criss Kenton, set at the end of the Eightheenth century in North America, has the appearance of an autobiographical memoir, but it is also a wide historical and adventure narration: a "bastard" form congenial to impure nature of Pratt as an author
