    The interfacial crack in bimaterials is a very interesting problem for composite materials and which has received particular attention from several researchers. In this study, we will propose a numerical modeling of the interfacial crack between two orthotropic materials using a special mixed finite element. For the calculation of the energy release rate, a technique, based on the association of the present mixed finite element with the virtual crack extension method, was used. The numerical model proposed, in this work, was used to study a problem of interfacial crack in bimaterials. Two cases were treated: isotropic and orthotropic bimaterials. The results obtained, using the present element, were compared with the values of the analytical solution and other numerical models found in the literature

    Analysis of soil-foundation interaction by coupling finite and infinite elements

    In many problems of physics or engineering, we are in the presence of infinite or semi-infinite domains. The analysis of these problems requires the use of size extended in order to model as well as possible the behaviour of the far field. The solution of these problems by the finite element method can prove to be expensive because of the volume of physical space necessary for modelling and of the realistic representation of the boundary conditions. However, a rigorous analysis consists in coupling finite elements with infinite elements to model in a reasonable manner the behaviour of the far field. In this paper, a technique of coupling finite elements and infinite elements was proposed to analyze the soil-foundation interaction problems under axisymmetric or plane strain conditions.     Analysis of Crack Propagation in Composite Materials Using Mixed Finite Elements

    This study investigates the application of fracture mechanics to analyze cracked structures, particularly focusing on cracks along interfaces in multilayer materials. Assuming perfectly plastic elastic behavior, small displacements, and plane structures, the research employs a new mixed finite element, RMQ-7, derived from Reissner’s variational principle. The RMQ-7 element, designed to model both the free edge effect along the crack and continuity in the rest of the material, is used in conjunction with the virtual crack extension method to evaluate the energy release rate and the size of the plastic zone around the crack tip

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Application of a mixed finite element to the analysis of laminated composite

    In this paper, a special finite element based on Reissner’s mixed variational principle has been presented to analyze laminated composite. The present element ensures the continuity of stress and displacement vectors at the interface between two materials. The accuracy of the element has been evaluated by comparing the numerical solution with an available analytical solution or numerical ones obtained from others finite elements
