Dieser Tagungsband enthält die Beiträge des 17. Workshops „Computational Intelligence“ des Fachausschusses 5.14 der VDI/VDE-Gesellschaft für Mess- und Automatisierungstechnik (GMA) und der Fachgruppe „Fuzzy-Systeme und Soft-Computing“ der Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI), der vom 5. – 7. Dezember 2007 im Haus Bommerholz bei Dortmund stattfindet. Der GMA-Fachausschuss 5.14 „Computational Intelligence“ entstand 2005 aus den bisherigen Fachausschüssen „Neuronale Netze und Evolutionäre Algorithmen“ (FA 5.21) sowie „Fuzzy Control“ (FA 5.22). Der Workshop steht in der Tradition der bisherigen Fuzzy-Workshops, hat aber seinen Fokus in den letzten Jahren schrittweise erweitert. The Social Desirability Scale-17 (SDS-17): Convergent validity, discriminant validity, and relationship with age
Four studies are presented investigating the convergent validity, discriminant validity, and relationship with age of the Social Desirability Scale-17 (SDS-17). As to convergent validity, SDS-17 scores showed correlations between .52 and .85 with other measures of social desirability (Eysenck Personality Questionnaire-Lie Scale, Sets of Four Scale, Marlowe-Crowne Scale). Moreover, scores were highly sensitive to social-desirability-provoking instructions (job-application instruction). Finally, with respect to the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding, SDS-17 scores showed a unique correlation with impression management, but not with self-deception. As to discriminant validity, SDS-17 scores showed nonsignificant correlations with neuroticism, extraversion, psychoticism, and openness to experience, whereas there was some overlap with agreeableness and conscientiousness. With respect to relationship with age, the SDS-17 was administered in a sample stratified for age, with age ranging from 18 to 89 years. In all but the oldest age group, the SDS-17 showed substantial correlations with the Marlowe-Crowne Scale. The influence of age (cohort) on mean scores, however, was significantly smaller for the SDS-17 than for the Marlowe-Crowne Scale. In sum, results indicate that the SDS-17 is a reliable and valid measure of social desirability, suitable for adults of 18 to 80 years of age
Differential regulation of interleukin-17 and interferon-y production in inflammatory bowel disease
PhDBackground and Aims. Interleukin (IL)-17 is now known to be involved in a number of chronic inflammatory disorders. However, the mechanisms regulating its production in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are still unclear. Methods. Endoscopic biopsies or surgical specimens were taken from inflamed and uninflamed colonic mucosa of 72 IBD patients (38 with Crohn’s disease and 34 with ulcerative colitis), and normal colon of 38 control subjects. IL-17 and interferon (IFN)- were detected by ELISA in the supernatants of biopsies cultured ex vivo, and anti-CD3/CD28-stimulated lamina propria mononuclear cells (LPMCs) incubated with IL-12, IL-23, IL-1β plus IL-6, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1, or anti-IL-21 neutralising antibody. Intracellular flow cytometry was performed to analyse mucosal Th17 and Th1/Th17 cells. Results. IL-17 production by organ culture biopsies was higher in IBD inflamed mucosa than IBD uninflamed mucosa and controls, and was equivalent in amount to IFN-. Anti-CD3/CD28-stimulated IBD LPMCs produced higher IL-17 amounts compared to controls. The percentages of Th17 and Th1/Th17 cells were increased in IBD patients than controls. IL-23 and IL-1 plus IL-6 had no effect on IBD LPMC production of IL-17, however IL-12 markedly increased IFN- production and decreased IL-17 production. TGF-β1 dose-dependently decreased IFN-, but had no significant inhibitory effect on IL-17 production. Blocking IL-21 significantly down-regulated IL-17 production. Conclusions. Our findings support a role for IL-12, TGF- and IL-21 in modulating IL-17/IFN- production in IBD. The abundant IL-17 in inflamed IBD mucosa may help explain the relative lack of efficacy of anti-IFN- antibodies in clinical trials of Crohn’s disease

The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the forms, causes, and consequences of violence experienced by a boy character in the novel Dear J by L. Lullaby. In this study using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data sources used as objects in this study are words, sentences, and dialogues. Documentation techniques are used for data collection in this study. The documentation technique itself is a technique that seeks information or data and learns about things or variables in the form of notes, books and previous journals that support this research. This study produced results from the discussion, namely (1) the forms of violence experienced by victims were physical violence and psychological (mental) violence. (2) The causes of physical violence and psychological (mental) violence experienced by victims are due to factors in the victim's and the mother's past related to their birth. The victim was born with limitations unable to speak or is mute besides that this character is a child from a relationship outside of marriage. That is what causes both his family and friends to hate the boy character. (3) The consequences of violent behavior are damage to family relationships, loss of children's self-confidence, can cause physical and psychological injuries, and violence can also cause children to lose their right to freedom. In this way it can be concluded that the occurrence of repeated violence against the male character carried out by his family and friends results in long-term suffering and misery, and The character of the male character cannot accept it both physically and mentallyPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan dan menganalisis bentuk, penyebab, serta akibat kekerasan yang dialami oleh tokoh seorang anak laki-laki dalam novel Dear J karya L. Lullaby. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Sumber data yang dijadikan objek dalam penelitian ini adalah kata, kalimat, dan dialog. Teknik dokumentasi digunakan untuk pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini. Teknik dokumentasi sendiri adalah teknik yang mencari informasi atau data dan mempelajari tentang hal-hal atau variabel berupa notebook, buku, dan jurnal-jurnal terdahulu yang mendukung penelitian ini. Penelitian ini menghasilkan hasil dari pembahasaan, yaitu (1) bentuk kekerasan yang dialami korban adalah kekerasan fisik dan kekerasan psikis (mental). (2) Penyebab kekerasan fisik dan kekerasan psikis (mental) yang dialami korban dikarenakan adanya faktor masa lalu korban dan sang ibu terkait dengan kelahirannya. Korban lahir dengan keterbatasan tidak dapat berbicara atau bisu. Selain itu, tokoh ini merupakan anak dari hubungan diluar pernikahan. Itulah yang menyebabkan keluarga dan teman-temannya membenci tokoh anak laki-laki tersebut. (3) Akibat yang ditimbulkan oleh perilaku kekerasan adalah kerusakan pada hubungan keluarga, kepercayaan diri anak yang hilang, dapat menimbulkan cidera fisik dan psikologis, serta kekerasan juga dapat menyebabkan kehilangan hak kebebasan pada anak. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadinya kekerasan berulang terhadap remaja laki-laki yang dilakukan oleh keluarga dan teman-temannya dengan mengakibatkan penderitaan dan kesengsaraan jangka panjang yang membuat tokoh laki-laki itu tidak dapat menerimanya baik secara fisik maupun mental

The experimental rotational levels of the (001) and (100) vibrational states could be reproduced using an Hamiltonian matrix which takes into account the expected rovibrational resonances. As for the other -type ozone , the (001) rotational levels of are involved in both Coriolis and Fermi type resonances with the levels from the (100) vibrational state. On the other hand, for the -type isotopomer, only C-type Coriolis resonances have to be considered. Using an Hamiltonian matrix which takes into account these resonances for the (001)-(100) off- diagonal blocks, and an A-type Watson operator for the diagonal blocks, precise vibrational energies and rotational and coupling constants are deduced
B Cells Regulate Neutrophilia during Mycobacterium tuberculosis Infection and BCG Vaccination by Modulating the Interleukin-17 Response
We have previously demonstrated that B cells can shape the immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, including the level of neutrophil infiltration and granulomatous inflammation at the site of infection. The present study examined the mechanisms by which B cells regulate the host neutrophilic response upon exposure to mycobacteria and how neutrophilia may influence vaccine efficacy. To address these questions, a murine aerosol infection tuberculosis (TB) model and an intradermal (ID) ear BCG immunization mouse model, involving both the μMT strain and B cell-depleted C57BL/6 mice, were used. IL (interleukin)-17 neutralization and neutrophil depletion experiments using these systems provide evidence that B cells can regulate neutrophilia by modulating the IL-17 response during M. tuberculosis infection and BCG immunization. Exuberant neutrophilia at the site of immunization in B cell-deficient mice adversely affects dendritic cell (DC) migration to the draining lymph nodes and attenuates the development of the vaccine-induced Th1 response. The results suggest that B cells are required for the development of optimal protective anti-TB immunity upon BCG vaccination by regulating the IL-17/neutrophilic response. Administration of sera derived from M. tuberculosis-infected C57BL/6 wild-type mice reverses the lung neutrophilia phenotype in tuberculous μMT mice. Together, these observations provide insight into the mechanisms by which B cells and humoral immunity modulate vaccine-induced Th1 response and regulate neutrophila during M. tuberculosis infection and BCG immunization. © 2013 Kozakiewicz et al
Trim17, novel E3 ubiquitin-ligase, initiates neuronal apoptosis
Accumulating data indicate that the ubiquitin-proteasome system controls apoptosis by regulating the level and the function of key regulatory proteins. In this study, we identified Trim17, a member of the TRIM/RBCC protein family, as one of the critical E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in the control of neuronal apoptosis upstream of mitochondria. We show that expression of Trim17 is increased both at the mRNA and protein level in several in vitro models of transcription-dependent neuronal apoptosis. Expression of Trim17 is controlled by the PI3K/Akt/GSK3 pathway in cerebellar granule neurons (CGN). Moreover, the Trim17 protein is expressed in vivo, in apoptotic neurons that naturally die during post-natal cerebellar development. Overexpression of active Trim17 in primary CGN was sufficient to induce the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis in survival conditions. This pro-apoptotic effect was abolished in Bax(-/-) neurons and depended on the E3 activity of Trim17 conferred by its RING domain. Furthermore, knock-down of endogenous Trim17 and overexpression of dominant-negative mutants of Trim17 blocked trophic factor withdrawal-induced apoptosis both in CGN and in sympathetic neurons. Collectively, our data are the first to assign a cellular function to Trim17 by showing that its E3 activity is both necessary and sufficient for the initiation of neuronal apoptosis. Wiskott–Aldrich Syndrome (WAS) is characterized by recurrent infections, thrombocytopenia, and eczema. Here, we show that WASp-deficient mice on a BALB/c background have dysregulated cutaneous immune homeostasis with increased leukocyte accumulation in the skin, 1 week after birth. Increased cutaneous inflammation was associated with epithelial abnormalities, namely, altered keratinization, abnormal epidermal tight junctional morphology and increased trans-epidermal water loss; consistent with epidermal barrier dysfunction. Immune and physical barrier disruption was accompanied by progressive skin dysbiosis, highlighting the functional significance of the disrupted cutaneous homeostasis. Interestingly, the dysregulated immunity in the skin preceded the systemic elevation in IgE and lymphocytic infiltration of the colonic lamina propria associated with WASp deficiency. Mechanistically, the enhanced immune cell accumulation in the skin was lymphocyte dependent. Elevated levels of both Type 2 (IL-4, IL-5) and Type 17 (IL-17, IL-22, IL-23) cytokines were present in the skin, as well as the ‘itch’ factor IL-31. Unexpectedly, the canonical WAS-associated cytokine IL-4 did not play a role in the immune dysfunction. Instead, IL-17 was critical for skin immune infiltration and elevation of both Type 2 and Type 17 cytokines. Our findings reveal a previously unrecognized IL-17-dependent breakdown in immune homeostasis and cutaneous barrier integrity in the absence of WASp, targeting of which may provide new therapeutic possibilities for the treatment of skin pathologies in WAS patients.</p
Cortisol and 17-hydroxyprogesterone levels in saliva of healthy neonates - Normative data and relation to body mass index, arterial cord blood pH and time of sampling after birth
The measurement of cortisol and 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) in saliva has become a reliable tool for both the scientist and the clinician for studying adrenal cortical function in the adult and the older child. We have now established in parallel normative data for salivary cortisol and 17-OHP levels in healthy neonates. We have asked whether or not there is a circadian rhythm of cortisol and 17-OHP saliva levels in neonates. Furthermore, we have asked whether salivary hormone levels correlated with auxologic and clinical data and time of sampling. Cortisol and 17-OHP levels in saliva samples from 119 healthy neonates (55 girls, 64 boys) were measured using in-house time-resolved fluorescent immunoassays. Saliva samples were obtained using a saliva collecting tube three times a day on the first or second day of life. Gender and gestational age did not influence salivary cortisol and 17-OHP levels. No significant circadian rhythm of salivary hormone levels was detected in this group of newborns. However, body mass index, arterial cord blood pH and time of saliva sampling significantly influenced salivary hormone levels. In conclusion, measurement of cortisol and 17-OHP in saliva is feasible in healthy neonates.
