Effects of Moritella viscosa antigens on pro-inflammatory gene expression in an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus) cell line (SHK-1)
Moritella viscosa is the causative agent of winter ulcer disease in salmonids reared in North-Atlantic countries. In this study the effects of selected M. viscosa antigens on cytotoxicity and pro-inflammatory gene expression in an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus) macrophage-like cell line (SHK-1) were examined. SHK-1 cells were stimulated with live and heat-killed bacterial cells, extracellular products (ECP) and an extracellular vibriolysin, termed MvP1. Following incubation, cytotoxicity and expression levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) were examined at different time points. Both live M. viscosa cells and ECP were cytotoxic, but neither heat-killed cells, nor the MvP1 peptidase caused cell death. Expression levels of both IL-1β and IL-8 increased significantly after stimulation with live cells, but heat-killed cells only caused increased IL-8 expression. ECP did not affect IL-1β expression, but did stimulate IL-8 expression. The isolated MvP1 peptidase stimulated both IL-1β and IL-8 expression at the highest concentration tested. This study reveals a difference in the induction of pro-inflammatory gene expression in salmon SHK-1 cells between live and heat-killed M. viscosa cells, and also that an unknown secreted factor is the main stimulant of IL-β and IL-8 expression.ID: S1050464809000990; M3: Article; Accession Number: S1050464809000990; Author: Bryndis Bjornsdottir (a, b); Author: Mark D. Computers Can’t Get Wet: Queer Slippage and Play in the Rhetoric of Computational Structure
This dissertation takes up the argument that computers are rhetorical structures that can be queered. Using cross-disciplinary methods, it examines the interplay that occurs between the layers of the computational stack – focusing in particular on the slippage between materiality, code, interface, and the resulting software – and analyzes the narratives that each layer perpetuates individually and in tandem. It applies a multi-faceted approach to queer theory in order to reveal the ways in which anti-normative computer users critique, resist, and subvert these narratives. When computers are approached as always already queer, the possibilities for disruption that exist within their limits materialize and present themselves as opportunities for intersectional exploitation. Praxis is at the heart of this project. In it, the author strives to interact with, build, and embody the technology that also serves as the object of study

Self-Regulation by Associations: Collective Action Problems in European Environmental Regulation
How and to what effect do firms coordinate their actions in order to deal with the negative external effects of productive activity? Under which conditions do firm associations engage in environmental self-regulation and what kind of governance devices do they develop in order to tackle the specific regulatory challenges at stake? Is the 'shadow of hierarchy', the credible threat of legislation, executive intervention or court rulings, a necessary condition for associative action to emerge? Or is it only necessary if a redistributive problem is at stake? These are the questions discussed in this article. We will first develop the theoretical argument based on economic institutionalism, derive hypotheses and then submit the propositions to a first empirical assessment of associative self-regulation on waste recycling in the plastic and paper industry.governance; self-regulation; shadow of hierarchy; transaction cost theory.

The analysis will first focus on the character herself and then examine parts of her life and the people who influenced her. More specifically, it will focus on her childhood, romantic life, faith, and the society of the city in which Ana lives.
This article explores some aspects concerning the metaenunciative dimension of discourse with respect to the presence of proper names in Sandra Cisneros?s fiction as well as in its Spanish version. Attention will be given, on the one hand, to the border enunciative spaces created around the presence of names, which seek to signal and bridge linguistic-cultural differences; and, on the other, to their recreation in the Spanish rendering performed by Poniatowska and Valenzuela. Thus, it is of interest to examine the configuration of the image or ethos (Ducrot, (1984) 1986; Amossy, 1999) which is associated to the responsible for the global enunciation of this literary discourse (Locutor-Author), both in the source and target texts.Fil: Spoturno, María Laura. The study of latency aged boys diagnosed with attention- deficit hyperactivity disorder and the effectiveness of play therapy, 1997
The objective of this study was to identify the effectiveness of play therapy on a latency diagnosed child with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD). In order to attain this objective, the following areas were addressed (a) a definition for ADHD, (b) history of ADHD, (c) emotional and mental difficulties for ADHD children (d) why the latency stage is an imperative age in diagnosis, (e) common interventions, and (f) effectiveness of play therapy in shaping behavior. The single systems design was used to determine if play therapy was beneficial to an ADHD child in long term mental health facility. One latency ADHD child residing in Charter, a longer term mental health facility, was selected to represent the target population

Brigham Young's homes
Edited by Colleen Whitley with contributions from Sandra Dawn Brimhall [and others].Includes bibliographical references and index. This collection surveys the many houses, residences, farms, and properties of Brigham Young, leader of the Mormon pioneers, first territorial governor of Utah, and second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The authors discuss, in addition to the buildings themselves, what went on within their walls, looking especially at the lives of Young's plural wives and their children. Their emphasis is on Young's residences as homes, not just structures. The text is heavily illustrated with photos, drawings and maps.Determining and defining "wife": the Brigham Young households / Jeffery Ogden Johnson -- Brigham Young's birthplace and New York residences / Marianne Harding Burgoyne -- A missionary's life: Ohio, Missouri, England, and Illinois / Marianne Harding Burgoyne -- Wives in wagons: winter quarters and the trek west / Judy Dykman and Colleen Whitley -- Settling in Salt Lake City / Judy Dykman and Colleen Whitley -- The Beehive and Lion houses / W.
