The core problem of the diploma thesis deals with the stage of purification of the synthesis gas and exhaust gases generated during FICFB (Fast Internally Circulating Fluidized Bed) solid fuel gasification. After reviewing the gas purification options suggestions for purification of synthesis gas and exhaust gases according to the required quality level were prepared based on the data measured on the pilot device for FICFB (Fast Internally Circulating Fluidized Bed) biomass gasification process at Bosio d.o.o. in Celje and data compiled by means of similar devices

Magistrsko delo opisuje postopek zasnove, tipizacije in standardizacije pogonskega sklopa voza industrijske peči za uporabo v podjetju BOSIO d.o.o. The master\u27s thesis describes the design, typing and standardization of the drive train for an industrial furnace used at BOSIO d.o.o. In the introduction of the master\u27s thesis, we briefly presented the history behind the development of industrial furnaces, their classification and description of boogie-hearth chamber furnace. Further, we discussed the drive train design and classification by load. For each type of the drive train, we have defined components, which we then calculated and standardized. In the conclusion, we outlined obtained objectives that serve as a proof of our successful standardization of the drive chain. We summed up by providing guidelines for further improvements in this field

Diplomsko delo opisuje predelavo konstrukcije elektro uporovne komorne peči izdelane v podjetju BOSIO d.o.o. The diploma thesis focuses on modifying the construction of the resistance chamber furnace manufactured by BOSIO d.o.o. The calculation of the new load-bearing capacity of the furnace under this contract is carried out by means of the SCIA ENGINEER 2011 program package. The construction is sized to 1,000kg of forgings, which will be thermally treated inside a furnace. Based on the results the main construction element will be designated. In the conclusion, results will be presented showing that the load-bearing capacity of the construction corresponds to the prescribed load, this contract and accompanying standards

Maxillary lateral incisor agenesis and its relationship to overall tooth size

    No full text
Statement of problem: Agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor is linked to differences in overall tooth size. Thus, the mesio-distal space required for final esthetic restoration in patients with missing one of both maxillary lateral incisors may be smaller. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to determine if a tooth size discrepancy exists in orthodontic patients with agenesis of the maxillary lateral incisor(s). Material and methods. Forty sets of dental casts from white orthodontic patients (19 male and 21 female) mean age 15.9 years were collected. All casts had agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors. The teeth were measured with a digital caliper at their greatest mesio-distal width and then compared to a control group matched for ethnicity, age and sex. S One-way repeated measures ANOVA (α=.05) was used for statistical analysis. Results. Males in the test group had significantly smaller maxillary posterior teeth when compared to males in the control group, with differences ranging from 0.28-0.78mm. Females showed significantly smaller maxillary anterior teeth, with differences ranging from 0.22-0.42mm. The remaining maxillary lateral incisor was also significantly smaller (1.27mm difference) in the male and female unilateral agenesis test groups indicating higher incidence of ‘peg’ laterals when compared to the control group. Conclusions. Agenesis of one or both maxillary lateral incisors is associated with a tooth size discrepancy. White males experienced smaller than normal posterior maxillary teeth and females showed smaller anterior maxillary teeth. This article is based on the Master’s thesis (J.W.) presented in 2011 in partial fulfilment of requirements for the degree of Master of Science, Marquette University School of Dentistry, 2011.Peer reviewe

Solving Nonlinear Covering Problems Arising in WLAN Design

    No full text
Wireless local area networks (WLANs) are widely used for cable replacement and wireless Internet access. Because the medium access control (MAC) scheme of WLANs has a strong influence on network performance, it should be accounted for in WLAN design. This paper presents AP location models that optimize a network performance measure specifically for the MAC scheme of WLANs that represents the efficiency in sharing the wireless medium. For these models, we propose a solution framework based on an effective integer-linear programming Dantzig-Wolfe reformulation. This framework is applicable to any nonlinear covering problem where the objective function is a sum of contributions over the groundset elements (users in WLANs). Extensive computational results show that our solution strategy quickly yields optimal or near-optimal solutions for WLAN design instances of realistic size.Original Publication: Edoardo Amaldi, Sandro Bosio, Federico Malucelli and Di Yuan, Solving Nonlinear Covering Problems Arising in WLAN Design, 2011, OPERATIONS RESEARCH, (59), 1, 173-187. http://dx.doi.org/10.1287/opre.1100.0897 Copyright: Informs http://www.informs.org

A combinatorial optimization problem arising from text classification

    No full text
We study a combinatorial optimization problem related to the automatic classification of texts. The problem consists of covering a given text using strings from a given set, where a cost is incurred for each type of string used. We give a 0-1 linear programming formulation and we report on computational experiences on very large instances using two different Lagrangean relaxations and heuristic algorithms based on simulated annealing and threshold accepting

Computational approaches to a combinatorial optimization problem arising from text classification

    No full text
We present a combinatorial optimization problem with a particular cost structure: a constrained set of elements must be chosen from a ground set and the ground set is partitioned into subsets corresponding to types of elements. The constraints concern the elements, whereas the solution cost does not depend on the elements but only on their types. The motivation of this study comes from text categorization but we believe that the same combinatorial structure may emerge in many different contexts. We prove that the problem is NP-hard. We give a 0-1 linear programming formulation and we report on computational experiences on very large instances using branch-and-bound algorithms based on two different Lagrangean relaxations and heuristic algorithms based on Threshold Accepting and Simulated Annealing
