Sociology essay
Sociology essay by Yumi Matsumoto for a class assignment at Tri-State High School at Tule Lake incarceration camp. Covers how population influences social life and problems. The Japanese American Archival Collection documents the people, places, and daily life of Japanese Americans, primarily those who lived in the once thriving community of pre-war Florin in the Sacramento region, as well as the conditions in American incarceration camps during World War II. The approximately 7,000 original items include personal and official letters, photographs, diaries, arts and crafts, newsletters, textiles, camps artifacts, yearbooks and other publications
On the symmetric square of quaternionic projective space
The main purpose of this thesis is to calculate the integral cohomology ring of the symmetric square of quaternionic projective space, which has been an open problem since computations with symmetric squares were first proposed in the 1930's. The geometry of this particular case forms an essential part of the thesis, and unexpected results concerning two universal Pin(4) bundles are also included. The cohomological computations involve a commutative ladder of long exact sequences, which arise by decomposing the symmetric square and the corresponding Borel space in compatible ways. The geometry and the cohomology of the configuration space of unordered pairs of distinct points in quaternionic projective space, and of the Thom space MPin(4), also feature, and seem to be of independent interest
ON THE SYMMETRIC SQUARES OF COMPLEX AND QUATERNIONIC PROJECTIVE SPACE
The problem of computing the integral cohomology ring of the symmetric square of a topological space has long been of interest, but limited progress has been made on the general case until recently. We offer a solution for the complex and quaternionic projective spaces Pn, by utilising their rich geometrical structure. Our description involves generators and relations, and our methods entail ideas from the literature of quantum chemistry, theoretical physics, and combinatorics. We begin with the case P∞, and then identify the truncation required for passage to finite n. The calculations rely upon a ladder of long exact cohomology sequences, which compares cofibrations associated to the diagonals of the symmetric square and the corresponding Borel construction. These incorporate the one-point compactifications of classic configuration spaces of unordered pairs of points in Pn, which are identified as Thom spaces by combining Löwdin's symmetric orthogonalisation (and its quaternionic analogue) with a dash of Pin geometry. The relations in the ensuing cohomology rings are conveniently expressed using generalised Fibonacci polynomials. Our conclusions are compatible with those of Gugnin mod torsion and Nakaoka mod 2, and with homological results of Milgram

Building an Institutional Repository: Managing Faculty Publication and Author Rights Workflow in the Wyoming Scholars Repository
Wyoming Scholar\u27s Repository (WySR), is an initiative by the University of Wyoming Libraries to support our scholars and provide a Green Open Access solution. WySR (http://repository.uwyo.edu/) disseminates a wide variety of scholarship, including faculty papers, student scholarship, conference proceedings, and journals. The Digital Collections office and the Scholarly Communication Librarian have been implementing and managing WySR by searching our purchased electronic materials, relying on the SHERPA/RoMEO database of publisher policies, and communicating with faculty to seek permissions to bring their scholarly publications into the repository. This presentation will discuss the differences among four colleges at the University of Wyoming: College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, and the Department of History in the College of Arts and Sciences with respect to the number of journal articles in the publisher PDF version (known as the version of record) that have been ingested into WySR. The workflow will be addressed in detail and includes copyrights and accession policies for deposit into WySR with SHERPA/RoMEO and a process of seeking permission from publishers to deposit the publisher PDF version on the author\u27s behalf. This workflow uncovered disciplinary differences with regard to Green Open Access and surrounding issues affecting the practices of self-archiving, copyrights, accession policies, faculty participation and the strategy for outreach to our colleagues across the academy
Combinatory actions of CP29 phosphorylation by STN7 and stability regulate leaf age-dependent disassembly of photosynthetic complexes
© 2020, The Author(s). A predominant physiological change that occurs during leaf senescence is a decrease in photosynthetic
efciency. An optimal organization of photosynthesis complexes in plant leaves is critical for efcient
photosynthesis. However, molecular mechanisms for regulating photosynthesis complexes during leaf
senescence remain largely unknown. Here we tracked photosynthesis complexes alterations during
leaf senescence in Arabidopsis thaliana. Grana stack is signifcantly thickened and photosynthesis
complexes were disassembled in senescing leaves. Defects in STN7 and CP29 led to an altered
chloroplast ultrastructure and a malformation of photosynthesis complex organization in stroma
lamella. Both CP29 phosphorylation by STN7 and CP29 fragmentation are highly associated with the
photosynthesis complex disassembly. In turn, CP29 functions as a molecular glue to facilitate protein
complex formation leading phosphorylation cascade and to maintain photosynthetic efciency during
leaf senescence. These data suggest a novel molecular mechanism to modulate leaf senescence via
CP29 phosphorylation and fragmentation, serving as an efcient strategy to control photosynthesis
complexes.11Nsciescopu
Multi-spectroscopic analysis of high temperature oxides formed on cobalt-chrome-molybdenum alloys
Thanks to their thermal stability, resistance to oxidation and mechanical strength, cobalt -chrome molybdenum alloys are considered an ideal alloy for high temperature applications. The surface oxide layer evolves as a function of time and temperature, changing its chemical structure and increasing its thickness from a few nanometers to various microns. Making use of various diffractographic and spectroscopic techniques, namely X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and glow-discharge optical emission spectroscopy, coupled with complementary analysis, this work gives new insights on the chemical bonding, crystallographic structure, thickness and elemental composition of the oxide layers as a function of both time and temperature of oxidation. Results show that the initial nanometric passive layer of Co3O4 evolves into a metastable, sub-micrometric CoCrO4 structure and finally stabilizes into a micrometric Cr2O3 at the highest temperatures. This paper fills a fundamental gap in the understanding of the chemistry and stability of Cobalt-based alloys used for high temperature applications, such as in poppet or exhaust valves, aerospace components or hot gas turbines. Once calibrated, this innovative, complete surface characterization approach can be ideally extended to other metallic alloys. (C) 2022 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V

Tekijä: Riina Meltemutmut
Opinnäytetyön nimi: Lukautem gud bebe blong yumi – Projektityönä tehty vauvanhoito-opas vanuatulaisille äideille ja hoitohenkilökunnalle

Työn valmistuslukukausi – ja vuosi: Kevät 2014 sivumäärä: 49 + 3 liitesivua
Vastasyntyneen 28. ensimmäistä elinvuorokautta kutsutaan neonataalikaudeksi. Maail-manlaajuisesti tämän kauden yleisimpiä kuolinsyitä ovat infektiot. Suuri osa niistä on ehkäistävissä huolellisella perushygienialla. Tämän vuoksi päädyin tekemään oppaan vauvan neonataalikauden perushoidosta, yleisimpien infektioiden oireista ja ennaltaehkäisystä Vanuatulla. Tuotekehittelyprojekti sai toimeksiantonsa Vanuatulla vaihdossa tehdyn harjoittelujakson päätteeksi.
Opas on tehty bislaman kielellä. Tässä raportissa on liitteenä myös englanninkielinen versio.
Aineistona työlleni käytin useita kansainvälisiä sekä suomalaisia tutkimuksia. Lisäksi perehdyin materiaaliin vastasyntyneen hoidosta, ravitsemuksesta ja neonataalikauden yleisimmistä infektioista ja niiden ehkäisystä. Olen myös perehtynyt projektityöskentelyyn ja tuotteen tuottamiseen.
Opinnäytetyöni aihe on kansainvälisesti merkittävä. Opas vastaa kohdemaan tarpeeseen. Raportin ja oppaan tietoperustaa voidaan soveltaa käytettäväksi myös muissa kehittyvissä maissa. Monikulttuurisuus on ajankohtainen aihe nykypäivän kätilötyössä.
Jatkossa olisi mielenkiintoista tutkia, minkälainen hyöty oppaasta on ollut ja miten muuta materiaalia voitaisiin kehittää Vanuatulle sekä muihin kehittyviin maihin.Oulu University of Applied Sciences

The first 28 days of baby’s life are called the neonatal period. Worldwide one of the most common causes of death in the neonatal period is infections. The majority of these infections could be prevented with good basic hygiene. This is why I decided to do my thesis on the neonatal care of newborns, the symptoms of the most common infections and their prevention. This project started after I did a long practical in the Norsup Hospital in Vanuatu. The assigner has been a silent party in this project and I have produced the material independently.
The aim was to produce a guide material about caring of the newborn in a simple and illustrated form that would be culturally suitable to be used in Vanuatu. The guide would contain relevant, updated material and it could be produced in a cost-effective way.
My thesis was a project development. To create the guide I have used international and Finnish material in this project and studied the neonatal care of newborns, their feeding and most common infections and their preventions. I have also studied project development and production of new material.
Through this project I was able to produce a simple, illustrated booklet about the care of neonates. The material for the guide was done in Bislama and an English translation is included in the appendices of this report. The guide would be used in two different ways. Firstly, in sessions between healthcare workers and mothers as the mothers are returning home after delivery with their babies and secondly as a material for the mothers to study independently.
The subject of my thesis is internationally valid and the data I have collected could be used in other similar projects in other developing countries as well. Multiculturalism is a very valid topic in today’s midwifery. As a development proposal it would be interesting to find out how the material was received and what kind of difference it has made in the health of neonates in Vanuatu, as well as how new material could be best produced
