Individual service excellence for better performance: evidences from MUET students / Boo Ho Voon, Joyce E. C. Voon and Ai Kiat Teo
An individual's attitude is imperative in sustaining his/her performance. One has to believe and do the right things all the times for excellence. However, there are many aspects that the individual needs to recognize and do excellently well. This paper presents an attitudinal measurement on service excellence attitudes and links it to the students’ MUET performance. The multi-item measurement scale was systematically developed and empirically tested for reliability and validity. The individual’s service excellence scale was called MyServEx (My Service Excellence) which consisted of 6 dimensions and 32 items. The MyServEx (Self) was empirically tested and the survey data were obtained from the MUET students to investigate the role of attitudes in leveraging the English language performance. The teachers can understand the students better and creatively help them. The limitations and future direction for research were also discussed
Developing a theoretical framework of chinese culture of excellence for economic innovations / Da An, Boo Ho Voon and Wen Chiat Lee
Chinese excellence traditional culture continues to prosper in the times of rapid economic development in recent years. The Chinese culture has been catching up with the Western culture in popularity. Chinese government has always advocated the importance of Chinese culture and advised the Chinese to learn the excellent culture. It is believed that the Chinese culture excellence can bring great economic development and
innovations to China. However, there is still a lacking of conceptual understanding of the Chinese culture of excellence and its impact on economic innovations. This paper intends to address that problem. Using the case of universities and colleges in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, this paper explores the relationship between Chinese excellent culture and economic innovation. A theoretical framework on how Chinese excellent culture leads to economic innovation is constructed and presented. With the construction of theoretical framework of the Chinese culture, there is a better understanding of how Chinese excellence culture can lead to economic innovation. The understanding is useful for policy makers especially at the universities level to encourage culture excellence training and learning that will lead to economic innovation in the long run
Total quality management and performance of SMEs in Sarawak
Total Quality Management is important for gaining competitive advantage. However, just creating good product will not by itself ensure success for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) if the product does not meet customer specifications. As such, this study aims to examine the relationship between total quality management (TQM) practices and organisational performance (OP) of the SMEs. Based on the theoretical considerations, a theoretical framework was proposed to link TQM and OP. Structured questionnaires were distributed to randomly selected SMEs in Sarawak. A total of 63 usable questionnaires were anlaysed. This research instrument showed encouraging evidence of reliability and validity. The data analysis reveals that TQM had positive and big impact on OP. However, the selected demographic characteristics of the SMEs had no significant influences on TQM practices. Thus, it was recommended that the SMEs should practice quality management facilitating management tool for improving organizational performance in view of the increasingly more dynamic environments that they are and will be facing

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
