Nano-Contact Spin-Torque Oscillators as Magnonic Building Blocks

    No full text
We describe the possibility of using nano-contact spin-torque oscillators (NC-STOs) as fundamental magnonic building blocks. NC-STOs can act as spin wave generators, manipulators, and detectors, and can hence realize all the fundamental functions necessary for fully integrated magnonic devices, which can be fabricated using available CMOS compatible large-scale spin-torque device production processes. We show in particular how a 200 nm sized nano-contact located on an out-of-plane magnetized permalloy "free" magnetic layer can generate spin waves at f approximate to 15 GHz that propagate up to 4 mu m away from the nano-contact with wavelength lambda = 200-300 nm, decay length lambda(r) approximate to 2 mu m and group velocities v(g) approximate to 3 mu m/ns. We propose that the same type of NC-STOs can be used as spin wave manipulators, via control of the local Gilbert damping, and as spin wave detector using the spin torque diode effect

    Neurofisiologia

Il restauro ha consentito inoltre di rilevare quali fossero le modalità di realizzazione di tali manufatti in uso presso le maestranze trapanesiThe article deals with the restoration of an unpublished crib from Trapani of the second half of the ‘700 from a private collection. It has presented many difficulties for the different materials which characterizes it and for the consequent need to resort to different modes of intervention, all targeted to the same criteria of maintenance and conservation, and not of rebuilding or replacement. The restoration has also allowed to detect what were the ways of achieving these artifacts used by the trapanese workers

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

NTMpy: An open source package for solving coupled parabolic differential equations in the framework of the three-temperature model

    No full text
The NTMpy code package allows for simulating the one-dimensional thermal response of multilayer samples after optical excitation, as in a typical pump-probe experiment. Several Python routines are combined and optimized to solve coupled heat diffusion equations in one dimension, on arbitrary piecewise homogeneous material stacks, in the framework of the so-called three-temperature model. The energy source deposited in the material is modelled as a light pulse of arbitrary cross-section and temporal profile. A transfer matrix method enables the calculation of realistic light absorption in presence of scattering interfaces as in multilayer samples. The open source code is fully object-oriented to enable a user-friendly and intuitive interface for adjusting the physically relevant input parameters. Here, we describe the mathematical background of the code, we lay out the workflow, and we validate the functionality of our package by comparing it to commercial software, as well as to experimental transient reflectivity data recorded in a pump-probe experiment with femtosecond light pulses.Program summaryProgram title: NTMpy v.0.1.1CPC Library link to program files: https: //doi.org/10.17632/5czr76gmwr.1Developer's repository link: https://github.com/udcm-su/NTMpyCode Ocean capsule: https://codeocean.com/capsule/5661399Licensing provisions: MIT licenseProgramming language: PythonExternal routines: Python 3.5 or higher, numpy, matplotlib, bsplines, tqdmNature of problem: 1-dimensional coupled non linear partial differential equations; diffusion and relaxation dynamics formultiple systems and multiple layers.Solution method: Simulate the diffusion and relaxation dynamics of up to 3 coupled systems via an object oriented user interface. In order to approximate the solution and its derivatives in space B-Spline interpolation is used. The solution is developed in time via the Explicit Euler method.Additional comments including restrictions and unusual features: A routine to automatically select the ideal time step for stability of the algorithm is implemented. Routines for output of raw data in order to post process and pre- made visualization routines are implemented. (C) 2021 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V

    Low field driven latching-type Bi3Fe5O12/Gd3Ga5O12 magneto-optical display

Series of heteroepitaxial all-garnet magneto-optical (MO) Bi3Fe5O12n/Gd3Ga5O12m /BIG(n)/GGG(m), n= 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and m=1 and 2 are the numbers of unit cells) nanostructured multilayers have been sintered by pulsed laser deposition technique. Processing parameters and structure of grown films have been optimized to obtain perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and square hysteresis loop with low coercive and saturation magnetic fields. Regular alternating of lattice mismatched BIG and GGG atomic layers inhibited nucleation of misfit dislocations; thus a long range coherent compressive strain was preserved through the whole thickness of BIG(n)/GGG(m) multilayer stack. 2.5 mu m thick BIG(3)/GGG(2) sample (1200 BIG and 800 GGG unit cells) at lambda= 678 nm shows MO Faraday rotation Phi(F)= +/- 1.4 degrees, transmittance of 82%, attenuation alpha=3400 dB/cm, squareness of magnetization loop (remnant-to-saturation magnetizations ratio) as high as 92%, and saturation and coercive fields as low as 56 and 25 Oe, respectively. MO remanence (latching capability) enables application of nanostructured garnet as a magnetic relief replicator/visualizer and as a material for low power consuming displays.
