Architecture Context Responsibility. Establishing a Dialogue and Following Patterns
No full textThe aim of the book is to explore the evolution of both architecture and urban space, in terms of their mutual relationship expressed within space, purpose, and time.
In a world where architecture and urban landscapes seem to becoming increasingly “iconic” the book aims to going on in two ways: on one hand studying the influence of the concrete (o real) architecture on urban space; on the other hand give a deep look inside the “iconic” investigating the relationship between what we see –images, digital nets etc. - and what we really live in cities and urban landscapes.
The recent economical crisis has probably reshaped the urban transformation especially in Mediterranean countries. The sustainability has become a “must” not only by a technological point of view. If one is charged to design a space or a building will have the duty of put them in a cultural system. Building without culture means only spoiling the environments. Culture means also context and this last is a complicated layering of heritage, ways of living, space practices, aesthetic matter (proportion, facades composition, roofs shapes), places specificity that are supposed to be valorized. Sensitization of designers to the needs of people with disabilities. Application of experiences in residential interior solutions in Milan
Get PDFThe coordinated experimental and design activities presented in this article are dedicated to the topic of design for people with disabilities. They involve two dimensions. The first and most significant is to draw the attention of future designers and current Interior Design students to the challenges in using space encountered by people with disabilities. To achieve this, sensitization training (workshops) was conducted through simulated disability experiences. Personal experiences and the identification of real difficulties in accessing the surrounding space served as a starting point for design activities: solutions for residential spaces intended for use by people with disabilities in Milan along Via De Amicis. The projects were carried out in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano as part of the Collaborating Classroom initiative, aimed at jointly achieving educational goals in different parts of the world using a shared digital environment and information and communication technologies (ICT). The basis for interior development was architectural projects created by students within Design Lab1 under the guidance of Prof. Marco Lucchini. The subject of the architectural project was a five-story residential building, in which some units were fully adapted for wheel-chair users, crutch users, or blind individuals. Changes, modifications, and improvements made by the students were based on individual experiences of simulating disabilities through the execution of organized tasks outlined in a proprietary accessibility questionnaire (Table 1, 2). No full textLAUREA MAGISTRALELa definizione degli obiettivi specifici e dei caratteri di una struttura universitaria, tende ad essere strettamente legata al contesto storico. Ogni proposta rappresenta la risposta ad un particolare insieme di condizioni; tuttavia, da ciascuna è possibile trarre indicazioni di carattere generale per la soluzione del problema della progettazione di un organismo universitario, riconducibili alla struttura fisica vera e propria.
Essendo la struttura un luogo che ospita utenti con interessi in ambiti diversi deve essere un luogo in continua crescita, non programmabile, né prevedibile, che richiede uno schema di piano flessibile ed aperto, modificandosi in modo coerente alle trasformazioni delle esigenze della didattica e della ricerca.
L’ambito territoriale circostante entra in stretto rapporto con la struttura, essa ne trae da questo i suoi principi organizzativi, andando a condizionarlo modificandone l’assetto, la configurazione e lo sviluppo.
Il tipo organizzativo e la soluzione architettonica sono gli aspetti che più influenzano lo studio e la progettazione di un’università, in quanto sono concetti in stretta relazione tra loro.
Le tendenze che sono legate al problema di una struttura universitaria, quali una griglia modulare con suddivisione dello spazio, un sistema organizzativo ed uno compositivo, si possono ricondurre in termini progettuali come elemento chiave del progetto.
Il rapporto università-città è un aspetto di fondamentale importanza quando si tratta un progetto come questo. Lo studio principale si fonderebbe proprio su questo importante rapporto, ma che risulta al giorno d’oggi non più soddisfacente. Anche i modelli di intervento principali, quali l’università nella città ed il campus autosufficiente (contrapposti tra loro) risultano difficilmente individuabili oggi nel panorama internazionale.
I singoli temi vengono trattati con duplice attenzione: verso le modifiche che le istituzioni, gli usi ed i comportamenti della gente vanno assumendo; verso la dilatazione o restrizione dello spazio che l’architettura si ritaglia tra i condizionamenti convergenti dei fattori finanziari, legislativi e tecnologici.The definition of specific objectives and character of a university structure, tends to be closely linked to the historical context. Every proposal is a response to a particular set of conditions; however, each one can draw general guidelines for solving the problem of design an university system, this is related to the real physical structure.
As the structure of a site that hosts users with interests in different fields should be a place in continuous growth, non-programmable or predictable, which requires a flexible and open-plan scheme, changing in a consistent manner to changes in the demands of teaching and research .
The territorial surrounding comes into close relation with the structure; it gets its organization principles from the territory, going to influence it and changing its layout, configuration and development.
The organizational and architectural design are the aspects that most influence the study and design of a university, because concepts are closely related.
The tendency that are related to the problem of a university, such as a modular grid with space division, an organizational and a composition systems, are used in terms of design as the key element of the project. The relation university-city is a fundamental aspect when is necessary to work in this kind of project. The most important study was based on this very significant relation that nowadays is no longer satisfactory.
The main models of intervention, such as the ‘university in the city’ and the ‘independent campus’ (opposed to each other) are not clearly visible today in the international scene.
The individual topics are carefully treated with two concerns: the changes of the institutions, habits and behaviors that people are assuming; the expansion or restriction of the space that architecture takes between the converging influences of financial, legislative and technological factors

No full textAbstractStrategies of designing a kitchen for persons with disabilities changed under the influence of a growing range of available household appliances, fashions and trends as well as available equipment assisting and supporting mobility of disabled persons. Verified designing methods as per working triangle and functional zones are often applied in modern interior design. Experimental research carried out indicates to the suitability of the new concept based on designation of the points of optimal access to kitchen equipment and storage zones. This concept limits the necessity of moving and the user is able to perform a few interrelated activities themselves

Dodatkowo pandemia COVID-19 i konieczność wprowadzenia dystansu społecznego stawiają nowe wyzwania przestrzeniom zamieszkania. Ich funkcja zaczęła znacznie wykraczać poza prywatny wymiar sfery domowej. W tekście przedstawiono autorską systematykę podatności na zmiany przestrzeni architektonicznej w procesie projektowania wnętrz. Projekty studenckie wykonane na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Poznańskiej i Mediolańskiej stanowią działanie eksperymentalne, które potwierdziło słuszność założeń.The flexibility and multifunctionality of architectural interiors is of great importance in the era of dynamic economic and social situation. Increasing mobility, migrations within regions, countries and continents drive the demand for variable solutions - which are easy to adapt to user requirements. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to introduce social distancing create new challenges for living spaces. Their function began to go far beyond the private dimension of the home sphere. The text presents author’s original systematics of space susceptibility to changes in interior design, which was supported by student projects made at the Faculty of Architecture of the Poznań and Milan Universities of Technology
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Architecture: Integration of Art and Engineering
Get PDFThe current Special Issue is a synthetic overview of 21 published articles. The contact point of architecture–art–engineering is multidimensional, and therefore, this synthesis of works takes into account three criteria: (a) research subject indication, (b) research problem identification, and (c) sublimation of the research techniques and instrumentality used. Research problems, scientific values, and utility values have been highlighted. This synthetic tripartite is intended to make it easier for the reader to find an interesting subject and instrumentality. As the topics of the articles overlap, guided by the dominant values of each article, five subject groups have been sublimated. These are: structural aspects and design, digitization, architectural heritage, aesthetics and emotions vs. engineering, and interior architecture. The characteristic values of each subject group are presented. The indicated new design and research tools do not separate but combine the subject industries; they connect the entities of the investment process
