Narrating narration. Narratological Research on Johannes Bobrowski´s Prose
Annotation
„Narrative Structure and metanarration in Johannes Bobrowski´s Prose” – a dissertation by Kārlis Cīrulis
In this dissertation several J. Bobrowski’s aesthetic features of his both novels and selected stories are being defined. These features point out fundamental problems of narratology that previously haven’t been researched thoroughly enough. The theoretical chapter points out the emergence of these problems within the discourse of narratology. By differentiating the concepts of several narratologists (G.Genette, M. Bal, U. Eco, W. Wolf, A. NŅnning and others), elaborating them and forming new theoretical categories a suitable therminological and conceptual base is formed for the description of several complicated but constitutive phenomena of J. Bobrowski’s prose. The analyses of individual texts illustrate that one of the central, but in the previous research neglected major motives in the prose of J. Bobrowski is the act of telling, as well as a metanarrative reflexion on it. This research illustrates the mechanisms with the help of which J. Bobrowski utilizes the discourse level for the construction of the meaning that can be attributed to these texts. The most extreme form of such utilization is reached where Bobrowski transpones, fundamental narrative categories such as action, its development and conflict to the discourse level by means of a ‘performative heterodiegetic narrator’, for instance, in the novel „Lithuanian Pianos”
Contradiction in peoples relationships:in Johann Bobrowski novel "Levin mill"
Contradiction in peoples relationships:in Johann Bobrowski novel \"Levin mill\" The work \"Levin's Mill\" (1964) by Johannes Bobrowski offers a rich material for a literurwissenschaftliche analysis. It is mainly to each other about the peoples of Eastern Europe and their relationships: \"I started to write on Ilmensee 1941 on Russian landscape, but as a foreigner, a German. This has become a topic about: the Germans and the European East. Because I'm waking up to around Memel, where Polish, Russian, German lived together, among them all Jewry. A long history of misfortune and indebtedness, since the days of the Teutonic Order, which is my people to book. Probably not be repaid and to atone for, but worth a hope and a fair trial in German poetry \" Here is told by a German, nationalistic, kaisertreuten grandfather, the mill of immigrant Jews can wash away one day. With the help of relations grandfather causes the judicial process in his favor. The Jew Levin leaves the village with his bride. The aim of this work is presentation of controversies in the international relations in the novel by Johannes Bobrowski work out, \"Levin's Mill\". As a theoretical basis for the narrative structure is first made. Here it is important to analyze the problem of the first set. This next step in the relationship between narrator and listener is presented. Very important is to edit the Russian skaz. In the second chapter, two novels and that of Lenz museum and Bobrowski Levin's mill are analyzed. This chapter is important for the Introduction to the basic theme of this thesis. Main theme of this chapter is the Multikulturität. Here, both novels are compared. Both authors are from Prussia, so in his novels, you can find a lot in common. Both Bobrowski and Lenz try expel the guilt of the Germans, and so to find a dialogue between the different peoples. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods

Active alkaline traps to determine acidic-gas ratios in volcanic plumes: Sampling techniques and analytical methods
In situ measurements have been the basis for monitoring volcanic gas emissions for many years and—being complemented by remote sensing techniques—still play an important role to date. Con- cerning in situ techniques for sampling a dilute plume, an increase in accuracy and a reduction of detection limits are still necessary for most gases (e.g., CO2, SO2, HCl, HF, HBr, HI). In this work, the Raschig-Tube tech- nique (RT) is modified and utilized for application on volcanic plumes. The theoretical and experimental absorption properties of the RT and the Drechsel bottle (DB) setups are characterized and both are applied simultaneously to the well-established Filter packs technique (FP) in the field (on Stromboli Island and Mount Etna). The comparison points out that FPs are the most practical to apply but the results are error- prone compared to RT and DB, whereas the RT results in up to 13 times higher analyte concentrations than the DB in the same sampling time. An optimization of the analytical procedure, including sample pretreat- ment and analysis by titration, Ion Chromatography, and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry, led to a comprehensive data set covering a wide range of compounds. In particular, less abundant species were quantified more accurately and iodine was detected for the first time in Stromboli’s plume. Simultane- ously applying Multiaxis Differential Optical Absorption Spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) the chemical transforma- tion of emitted bromide into bromine monoxide (BrO) from Stromboli and Etna was determined to 3–6% and 7%, respectively, within less than 5 min after the gas release from the active vents
Simulation of thermal plant optimization and hydraulic aspects of thermal distribution loops for large campuses
Following an introduction, the author describes Texas A&M University and its utilities system. After that, the author presents how to construct simulation models for chilled water and heating hot water distribution systems. The simulation model was used in a $2.3 million Ross Street chilled water pipe replacement project at Texas A&M University. A second project conducted at the University of Texas at San Antonio was used as an example to demonstrate how to identify and design an optimal distribution system by using a simulation model. The author found that the minor losses of these closed loop thermal distribution systems are significantly higher than potable water distribution systems. In the second part of the report, the author presents the latest development of software called the Plant Optimization Program, which can simulate cogeneration plant operation, estimate its operation cost and provide optimized operation suggestions. The author also developed detailed simulation models for a gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator and identified significant potential savings. Finally, the author also used a steam turbine as an example to present a multi-regression method on constructing simulation models by using basic statistics and optimization algorithms. This report presents a survey of the author??s working experience at the Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) at Texas A&M University during the period of January 2002 through March 2004. The purpose of the above work was to allow the author to become familiar with the practice of engineering. The result is that the author knows how to complete a project from start to finish and understands how both technical and nontechnical aspects of a project need to be considered in order to ensure a quality deliverable and bring a project to successful completion. This report concludes that the objectives of the internship were successfully accomplished and that the requirements for the degree of Degree of Engineering have been satisfied
