"Gentlemen, I'm not happy" : Divagazioni su "Commento/Tormento"
In a paper published in "Eikasmos" 2005, pp. 409-418, "Commento/Tormento: eccessi antichi e moderni nell'esegesi dei classici", Mario Geymonat investigated the existing typologies of commentaries to the Classics, from Late Antiquity to our days. In this paper, the author examines the classification proposed by Geymonat, and draws attention to the possibilities of a new type of commentary in the Age of Internet
International Standards for the Induction Motor Efficiency Evaluation: a Critical Analysis of the Stray-Load Losses Determination
Motor efficiency has to be measured or calculated in accordance with international standards. The most important standards are the IEEE 112-B, IEC 34-2, and JEC 3 . In this paper, a comparison of the measurement procedures defined by these international standards is reported, together with some comments on the prescribed methodologies. The comparison is based on experimental results obtained by tests on four general-purpose three-phase induction motors. The stray-load loss measurement represents a critical key for the correct evaluation of the motor efficiency. For this reason, a critical analysis of this type of losses has been performed. In particular, in order to understand which are the most critical quantities that influence their evaluation, the stray-load loss sensitivity to the measurement errors is analyzed. In the final part of the paper the temperature influence, on the conventional iron losses, is experimentally analyzed. The performed tests show that the temperature difference between the no-load test and the motor real operative conditions is not negligible
The author reconstructs the events of the design of the Gabi Museum in the Villa Borghese in Rome in the light of an unpublished, yet important, presentation drawing attributed to Mario Asprucci. The events, related to the musealisation of the statues found in Gabi by Gavin Hamilton in the Pantano dei Grifi, allow us to clarify the complexity of architect Asprucci's elaboration of neoclassical language. In addition, the author analyses the album of drawings in the Gabi Museum of Rome's Palazzo Braschi, formerly attributed to Giuseppe Valadier, attributing it more correctly to Cristoforo Unterpregher
Tra Darwin e Habermas. Sul caso e l'"indisponibilità" dell'individuo
This Essay is a follow up of a previous contribution to the study of some consequences of Darwin's thought in Moral Philosophy (Darwinismo morale, Pisa, 2002). Habermas' apprehension of a darwinian liberalism in our age is disputed, but the author agrees with him about the necessity of philosophically envisaging one important implication of contemporary technological development —namely, the implication of biotechnological possession, after the notion of «Körper haben» put forward by Helmut Plessner. This leads the author to reconsider a natural prerequisite of our idea of individual freedom (a prerequisite pretty much similar to the darwinian concept of chance), i. e. the asymmetry in responsibility between parents and their offspring, an asymmetry which is obviously affected by the possibility of pre–determining at least some features of it

Experimental High-Frequency Parameter Identification of AC Electrical Motors
In order to predict conducted electromagnetic interference in inverter-motor drive systems, high-frequency (HF) motor models are requested and the involved parameters have to be available. In previous studies, the authors have presented an accurate HF model for induction motors and they have defined the procedures to identify the model parameters. In this paper, these results are extended to several types and sizes of industrial ac motors such as induction, synchronous reluctance (without interior permanent magnets), and brushless motors. The model parameter-identification procedure has been improved, and it is based on a least-squares data fitting applied to the measured magnitude and phase-frequency-response curves of the phase-to-ground and the phase-to-neutral impedances. The aim of this paper is to provide quick indications to select the suitable values of the HF model parameters, with reference to the size and type of the ac motor, to evaluate the HF voltage and current components in inverted-fed ac motor system
A Simple Proof of Baer's and Sato's Theorems on Lattice Isomorphisms between Groups
A group is said to be an M\sp*-group if all subgroups of are quasinormal and is quaternionfree. Using Iwasawa's characterization of M\sp*-groups the author gives an elegant and unified proof of the following theorem: If is an M\sp*-group, then there exists an abelian group such that the lattices of subgroups of and are isomorphic.
