    Long Latency Responses in Children with Learning Disorder

    The purpose of the study was to investigate long latency response from the children with LD and compare the findings with controlled subjects (i.e. age-gender matched). LLR responses were recorded from 30 subjects with LD (experimental group) and 30 control groups, age range from 10 -14 year with means age of 11.2 years. The LLR responses were recorded by using the click stimulus. P1, N1, P2, N2 latency and amplitude were used for analysis. Result of the study indicates that both the group had statistically significant difference in latency. P1 and N1 amplitude were found to be significantly different between the two test groups. The present study findings suggest that click evoked auditory late latency response is easily traceable in all children with LD and typically developing children. However, prolonged latency responses in the present study suggest that the auditory stimulus processing at auditory cortex level is different in LD children compared to typical children. This functioning difference in the auditory cortical area results in altered auditory cortical recording. The present study has discussed how LLR test can be effective test tool to use clinically that differentiates between individuals with and without LD

    A Safety Application of C-V2X Using Open-source MS_VAN3T Framework and IOT Protocol

    The author has granted permission for their work to be available to the general public.The automotive industry is steadily progressing toward automation and making new technological revolutions. In the coming years, every vehicle will be connected through Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies. The important standardization bodies have done their part: IEEE, with the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment (WAVE) stack, and ETSI, with the ITS-G5 stack, have contributed to defining the foundations of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) scenario for the United States and Europe. Additionally, IEEE proposed a protocol from the 802.11 wireless-LAN family, while 3GPP proposed a solution derived from the cellular networks (C-V2X).All these technologies will enable an incredible number of applications, which will overturn the mobility experience in all its forms. Simulation tools play a pivotal role in the automotive industry. Because of the complexity and the high deployment costs of vehicular applications, it is usually convenient to extensively test them through simulation. This thesis introduces an application of vehicular scenarios based on the open-source MS-VAN3T, an open source ETSI ITS-G5 model for the ns-3 simulator and that is coupled with SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) which allows the reproduction of complex vehicular scenarios. Moreover, MS- VAN3T can be used to develop any kind of application and comes with the possibility of transparently changing the underlying access technology. These applications will leverage V2X technologies to improve road safety. For this reason, MS-VAN3T is used in this thesis to develop a Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) system that, leveraging Cooperative Awareness Messages (CAMs) and Decentralized Environmental Notification Messages (DENMs), can warn vehicles and vulnerable users about possible collisions. V2X communication can be achieved through the internet of things (IOT) which can help stream information about all entities in the vehicular environment. The IOT technology has different protocols such as MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT), Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) and Narrow Band-IOT (NB-IOT), which is used to control the objects in the road infrastructure.     Role of planar faults in martensite formation in nano-polycrystalline iron by molecular dynamics simulation

    The martensitic transformation in pure Fe and its alloys has been studied over many decades. Several theoretical models have been proposed to describe the atomic motion that leads to the fcc-to-bcc martensitic transformation. However, such models do not account for the effect of pre-existing planar defects such as twin boundaries and stacking faults, present in the high-temperature austenite phase prior to the transformation process. This work systematically studies the role of nano-spaced planar faults with different inter-spacing on the martensitic transformation using molecular dynamics simulations. Research shows that the investigated planar defects affect the nucleation and growth mechanisms during martensite formation, the morphology of the resulting microstructure, the specific atomic path leading to the phase transformation, and the martensite start temperatures. Martensite variants were identified by the analysis of the atomic shears and slip systems during the transformation process. A crystallographic analysis is done to explain the existence of different shear mechanisms of martensite transformation at different locations in the fcc austenite. The present investigation provides fundamental insights into the martensitic transformation process in presence of pre-existing planar defects and can be applied to other material systems, e.g., Fe alloys.Team Kevin RossiTeam Maria Santofimia Navarr

    Constricting and Validating Hindi Monosyllabic Speech Perception Test Material for Hearing Impaired Children

    The current study aimed to compare speech perception score of children with Hearing impairment using CI and HA. The Hindi speech perception test was designed for children aged between two to six years-old. A total of 226 normal hearing children consisting four groups from 2 years to 6 years participated as normative sample. Test items were selected on the basis of familiarity & frequent consonants occurred in daily uses. Test consists of each set of 40 pictorial stimuli which scored 2 for auditory response, 1 for auditory and visual cues, zero for no response even after auditory and visual stimulation. Similarly in experimental groups, 30 subjects with HI using HA were recruited with mean age 8.083 years consisting of 13 female and 17 male. Other group comprises of 30 subjects with HI using CI with mean age 8.231 years and consisting of 14 female & 16 male. Both the group had exposure to aural –oral therapy for at least 3 years. After‘t’ tail test analysis it was seen that both the group had statistically significant difference in speech perception score. Subjects with CI showed significant higher score in speech perception ability. This research article further discussed the HA technical short coming over C

    Effect of C on the martensitic transformation in Fe-C alloys in the presence of pre-existing defects: A molecular dynamics study

    Molecular dynamics simulations are used to investigate the atomic effects of carbon (C) addition in Fe on the martensitic phase transformation in the presence of pre-existing defects such as stacking faults and twin boundaries. The pre-existing defect structures in Fe-C alloys have the same effect on the atomistic mechanisms of martensitic transformation as in pure Fe. However, C addition decreases the martensitic transformation temperature. This effect is captured by characterizing three parameters at the atomic level: atomic shear stresses, atomic energy, and total energy as a function of temperature for face-centered-cubic (fcc) and body-centered-cubic (bcc) phases. The thermodynamic effect of fcc phase stabilization by C addition is revealed by the atomic energy at a particular temperature and total energy as a function of temperature. The barrier for fcc-to-bcc transformation is revealed by analysis of atomic shear stresses. The analysis indicates that addition of C increases the atomic shear stresses for atomic displacements during martensitic transformation, which in turn decreases the martensitic transformation temperature.(OLD) MSE-3Materials Science and Engineerin
