Tydi-Chisel: Collaborative and Interface-Driven Data-Streaming Accelerator Design
In spite of progress on hardware design languages, the design of high-performance hardware accelerators forces many design decisions specializing the interfaces of these accelerators in ways that complicate the understanding of the design and hinder modularity and collaboration. In response to this challenge, Tydi has been presented as an open specification for streaming dataflow designs in digital circuits, allowing designers to express how composite and variable-length data structures are transferred over streams using clear, data-centric types. Earlier efforts in providing an implementation framework for Tydi managed to generate VHDL boilerplate code for Tydi interfaces, but offered limited design value over custom solutions due to VHDL's low abstraction level. In contrast, Chisel, with its high level of abstraction and customizability offers a suitable platform to implement Tydi-based components. In this thesis, the Tydi-Chisel library is presented along with an A-to-Z design-process description for data-streaming accelerators. A stream-interface solution is presented that offers both compatibility with Tydi in traditional HDLs and maximum utility within Chisel through two intercompatible representations. In addition, design complexity is reduced through novel utilities like stream-complexity conversion, developed to alleviate interface specification mismatches between components. Using the presented toolchain and library, the amount of code required to specify Tydi interfaces for representative use-cases can be reduced several times compared to a Verilog description, while offering increased utility. Tydi-Chisel aims to simplify the design of data-streaming accelerators through the integration of the Tydi interface standard in Chisel, along with helper components, syntax sugar, and verification tools. In combination Chisel and Tydi help bridge the hardware-software divide, making solo-design and collaboration between designers easier.https://github.com/ccromjongh/Tydi-Chisel Repository with project code.Computer Engineerin

Investigate the high-level HDL Chisel
Chisel (Constructing Hardware in a Scala embedded language) is a new programming language, which embedded in Scala, used for hardware synthesis. It aims to increase productivity when creating hardware by enabling designers to use features present in higher level programming languages to build complex hardware blocks. In this paper, the most advertised features of Chisel are investigated and compared to their VHDL counterparts, if present. Afterwards, the authors’ opinion if a switch to Chisel is worth considering is presented. Additionally, results from a related case study on Chisel are briefly summarized. The author concludes that, while Chisel has promising features, it is not yet ready for use in the industry
The terminal effects of chisel-shape projectile penetrating into metallic target plates
This work performs the analysis and simulation investigations of penetration behaviors of chisel-shape projectile. In analysis, the projectile is assumed to be a rigid body and the target plate is elastic-plastic material. By introducing the velocity potential function, the velocity field in target is first obtained. Then, the momenttun equation is solved for determining the pressure and stress fields in the elastic and plastic regions in target. The variation of the resultant force subjected by the projectiles with the penetration depth is studied. The approximate expressions of penetration depth and the residual velocity with the initial impacting velocity are obtained for the exploration of the penetration mechanisms of the chisel-shape projectile. In numerical simulation, the main attention focuses on the dissipation mechanisms of the kinetic energy of the chisel-shape projectile in penetration process
Volcanic reconstruction and geochemistry of the Powderhouse formation in the Paleoproterozoic VMS-hosting Chisel sequence, Snow Lake, Manitoba, Canada
The Powderhouse formation of the Paleoproterozoic Snow Lake arc assemblage comprises the stratigraphic footwall to six volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits at Snow Lake, Manitoba, Canada. It is interpreted to be a product of voluminous pyroclastic eruptions and concomitant subsidence followed by a period of relative volcanic quiescence that was dominated by suspension sedimentation, the reworking of previously deposited pyroclastic units by debris flows and bottom currents, and localized emplacement of rhyolite domes. The rhyolite domes are spatially associated with the Chisel, Chisel North, Lost, Ghost, Photo, and Lalor deposits. The Chisel, Lalor, and Lost members compose the Powderhouse formation and are subdivided into 13 lithologically distinct lithofacies, which allows, for the first time, correlation of stratigraphy between the South Chisel basin and Lalor areas, critical in predicting the location of largely stratiform VMS deposits. The Chisel and Lalor members contain lithofacies and bedforms that are characteristic of emplacement by subaqueous pyroclastic mass flows and concomitant subsidence. The Chisel member also contains coarse volcaniclastic breccias emplaced by mass debris flows derived from movement along fault scarps following early pyroclastic eruptions, and during continued subsidence. The Lost member consists of lithofacies deposited by mass flows generated from faults scraps during continued subsidence, but also contains lithofacies reworked by bottom currents, those deposited by suspension sedimentation, and, locally, coherent rhyolite. The Lost member represents a time stratigraphic interval, the “ore interval”, that marks contemporaneous rhyolite dome emplacement, VMS formation, and a hiatus in explosive volcanism. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. Chisel-shaped tools in the reconstruction of some aspects of the late Paleolithic economy
The paper deals with the problem of the presence of the most specific type of flint implements – the chisel-like tools, in the complexes of the late Paleolithic sites. The author underlines that the distribution of these articles is not so much the index of the cultural specificity, as the indicator of the economic importance in the definite ecological conditions. High and very high proportions of the chisel-shaped tools are connected with the sites, located on the limited parts of the banks of some big rivers. The author considers, that this fact presupposes the presence of the regions with the intensive development and usage of these waterways, or their overcoming, which was caused by the definite way of life of the late Paleolithic societies

Low Power Bluetooth Baseband with a RISC-V Core for Autonomous Sensors using Chisel
The number of IoT devices and their applications is projected to continue increasing in the future, creating a demand for low-power wireless communications that allow IoT devices to either be connected directly to the internet or to use other devices as a back gate to it. BLE is already one of the most used wireless communication protocols for this kind of devices, and its use is expected to continue increasing in the near future. Therefore the need for very low-power Bluetooth baseband designs arises. This thesis work presents a study on previous existing BLE baseband architectures. It proposes a new BLE baseband architecture where every non-bit-intensive function has been moved into software to fully make use of the efficient processor core in the SoC, and new functionalities have been added to the design in order to eliminate unnecessary communication between the baseband and processor. Furthermore, a novel non table based CRC error correction algorithm has been implemented in hardware and included in the bitstream processing chain in order to improve the reliability of the connection and therefore further reduce power consumption. In order to test the functionality of the proposed architecture, the bitstream processing blocks have been implemented and connected to a RISC-V processor core on the designed SoC. That was possible thanks to Chisel, a novel HDL based on Scala, and the Rocket-Chip generator that facilitates the task of integrating parameterizable cores and accelerators/coprocessors into an SoC design. The presented design has been simulated and implemented on a FPGA to test it and show its feasibility.Electrical Engineerin
Comparative evaluation of 5% lignocaine ointment and a combination of 0.2% glyceryl trinitrate and 5% lignocaine in management of acute fissure in ano.
Background: Anal fissure is one of the most common anorectal problem and presents as a tear in the anoderm distal to the dentate line. It is a common proctologic problem and accounts for 10-15% of proctological consultations and seen frequently in young and middle-aged patients. Presently wide range of medical and surgical treatment options were available. Present study was aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of 5% lignocaine ointment and a combination of 0.2% glyceryl trinitrate and 5% lignocaine in management of acute fissure in ano. Methods: In the present study, a total of 100 patients diagnosed with acute fissure in ano were randomly allocated into two groups (I, II) of 50 patients each and were managed by local application of 5% Lignocaine (LIG) ointment and a combination of both 0.2% Glyceryl trinitrate (NTG) and 5% Lignocaine (LIG) ointment respectively. Results: In the present study, the incidence of anal fissure was higher in males than in females with mean age of occurrence of 35.12 years. Pain was the most common symptom to present with. After six weeks, complete pain relief was seen in most of the patients and was comparable in both the groups but healing was superior in group II when compared to group I. Headache and dizziness were the side effects only noticed in group II.Conclusions: To conclude the study, we can say that the treatment of anal fissure is becoming increasingly medical as it can be carried out on outpatient basis and is cost effective and there is no loss of man hours. Lignocaine may be preferred as the first line treatment as there are no side effects and if there is failure to heal then we can prescribe the combination of both drugs owing to their risk benefit ratio.</jats:p
