Description and chemical composition of manganese nodules sampled during the R/V "Vityaz" Expedition Vityaz-35
This paper presents data on the chemical composition of iron-manganese nodules and associated sediments collected during the 35th voyage of the R/V "Vityaz" in 1962. The samples were made available to the author by Prof, P. L. Bezrukov. Data on the general distribution of manganese nodules at the bottom of the Indian Ocean were already given by P. L. Bezrukov (1962, 1963). Here the author analyzed the geochemistry of nodules samples from seven stations and four samples from the associated sediments. The analysis separates the outer layer of nodules from their apparent internal core

The indication for K geo-antineutrino flux with Borexino phase-III data
We provide the indication of high flux of K geo-antineutrino and
geo-neutrino (K-geo-()) with Borexino Phase III data.
This result was obtained by introducing a new source of single events, namely
K-geo-() scattering on electrons, in multivariate fit
analysis of Borexino Phase III data. Simultaneously we obtained the count rates
of events from Be, and CNO solar neutrinos. These count rates are
consistent with the prediction of the Low metallicity Sun model SSM B16-AGSS09.
MC pseudo-experiments showed that the case of High metallicity Sun and absence
of K-geo-() can not imitate the result of multivariate
fit analysis of Borexino Phase III data with introducing
K-geo-() events. We also provide arguments for the high
abundance of potassium in the Earth.Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with

Transcendent Imagination in Salman Rushdie’s Victory City: A confrontation of Myth, Religion, History and Tradition
O. Bohovyk: ORCID 0000-0003-4315-2154;
A. Bezrukov: ORCID 0000-0001-5084-6969ENG: The article focuses on Victory City (2023), the latest novel by Salman Rushdie, to discuss how transcendent reality is experienced and conceived in human
life. The book explores the epistemological problems of religious tradition fictionalising the history of the Indian Vijayanagara Empire and proposing thus a
new mythology. In his novel, framed as a fictional translation of an epic from Sanskrit, Rushdie confronts the real world through transcendent imagination to
appeal to harmonious ideals and reconcile them with imperfect humanity. The author’s vision of that confrontation is interwoven with a biting critique of our
world
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
An Oceanic Tale: Trauma, Technology and Cultural Resistance in Richard Powers’s Playground
A. Bezrukov: ORCID 0000-0001-5084-6969, O. Bohovyk ORCID: 0000-0003-4315-2154ENG: The article appears to be one of the first academic treatments of Richard Powers’s Playground (2024) to delve into the intertwining narratives of humanity and nature within the Anthropocene epoch. Powers examines the ethical, emotional, and existential dilemmas posed by climate change and technological advancement through his characters and their engagement with an aquatic ecosystem. We explore how the author addresses the issues of environmental (ocean) pollution, AI, childhood trauma, (de)humanisation, and cultural resistance to reflect the complexities of the human condition represented in Anthropocene fiction. Within the interdisciplinary realm, we bring together various perspectives from the (environmental) humanities and ecocultural studies, emphasizing the crucial significance of discussing current crises through culture. An ecocritical reading of Playground reveals how Powers critiques anthropocentrism and illustrates the consequences of ecological neglect, ultimately advocating for a more harmonious coexistence with the natural world. Powers’s captivating story of personal tragedies, environmental issues, anxieties of the Anthropocene, cultural myths, and the critique of overreliance on technology prompts readers to reflect on their roles within the global ecosystem, the importance of environmental stewardship, and the urgency of addressing climate change, while fostering a sustainable future
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Collective Amnesia in Ian McEwan’s Lessons: A (New) World Order, Historical Memory and Phantom Pains of Greatness
O. Bohovyk: ORCID 0000-0003-4315-2154;
A. Bezrukov: ORCID 0000-0001-5084-6969ENG: Collective memory is actualised when a social group or a nation endeavours to reconstruct significant historical events giving them
a certain interpretation. Historical exploration of the sources of a new world order and its fragility involves imperialist narratives being the causes of
some geopolitical conflicts. All the great empires inevitably lose their power and status, but some former empires still feel the phantom pains of their
former greatness, which may have unforeseen historical consequences. Ian McEwan’s latest novel, Lessons (2022), covers a long period of time
to deliver a powerful meditation on history and humanity through one man’s life across generations and historical (un)doings. The article focuses
on the literary representation of some historical contexts and attempts at resisting collective amnesia, in order to illustrate how a blatant disregard
for the painful lessons of history invites the occurrence of new cruelties of imperialist ideology
