Review Paper on Penetrating Brain Injury Ethical Quandaries in the Trauma Bay and Beyond

Background:While there is a significant gap in the literature on managing PBI in patients presenting with multisystem trauma, recent data demonstrate that resuscitation and prognostic features for such patients remains poorly described, with trauma guidelines out of date in this field. Methods:We reviewed a combination of recent multidisciplinary evidence-informed guidelines for PBI and coupled this with expert opinion from trauma, neurosurgery, neurocritical care, pediatric and transplant surgery, surgical ethics and importantly our community partners. Results:Traditional prognostic signs utilized in traumatic brain injury may not be applicable to PBI with a multidisciplinary team approach suggested on a case-by-case basis. Even with no role for neurosurgical intervention, neurocritical care, and neurointerventional support may be warranted, in parallel to multicavitary operative intervention. Special considerations should be afforded for pediatric PBI. Ethical considerations center on providing the patient with the best chance of survival. Consideration of organ donation should be considered as part of the continuum of patient, proxy and family-centric support and care. Community input is crucial in guiding decision making or protocol establishment on an institutional level. Conclusions:Support of the patient after multicavitary PBI can be complex and is best addressed in a multidisciplinary fashion with extensive community involvement
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Metod: Studien har en vetenskapsteoretisk utgångspunkt i den positivistiska forskningsfilosofin och antar vidare en deduktiv forskningsansats. Dessutom är den kvantitativa forskningsstrategin och tvärsektionella forskningsdesignen den forskningsstrategi respektive forskningsdesign som studien antar. Hållbarhet- och finansiell data på 321 börsnoterade IT-bolag i Europa och USA har inhämtats från Thomson Reuters datastream för året 2021. Analysen har sedan genomförts i statistikprogrammet IBM SPSS. Resultat och slutsats: Resultatet från denna undersökning tyder på att det finns ett svagt positivt samband mellan ESG samt komponenten miljö (E) och finansiell prestation men inte för komponenterna social (S) och styrning (G). Detta tyder på att miljöfaktorer är särskilt viktiga för det finansiella resultatet inom IT-sektorn.Examensarbetets bidrag: Denna studie ger värdefulla insikter för investerare, företag och beslutsfattare som är intresserade av att främja hållbarhet och ansvarsfullt företagsbeteende inom IT-sektorn. Method: This paper has a scientific starting point in the positivist research philosophy and further adopts a deductive research approach. In addition, a quantitative research strategy and cross-sectional research design are adopted throughout this paper. Sustainability and financial data on 321 listed IT companies in Europe and the USA have been collected from Thomson Reuters data stream for the year 2021. A univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis has taken place in the statistical program IBM SPSS. Results and conclusions: The results from this study indicate that there is a weak positive relationship between ESG and the component environment (E) and financial performance. However, no relationship was found between the components social (S) and governance (G) and financial performance. This suggests that environmental factors are particularly important for financial performance in the IT-sector.Contribution of the thesis: This study provides valuable insights for investors, companies and decision makers that are interested in promoting sustainability and responsible corporate behavior in the IT- sector. Suggestions for future research: In order to increase the knowledge and to be able to draw conclusions, further research is needed within the subject. Specifically for the IT-sector, further research could include companies from all continents to broaden the view. Furthermore, similar studies can be carried out with a longitudinal design where data from several years are included. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Children and adolescents experience of living with type 1 diabetes : A literature study
No full textBakgrund: Diabetes mellitus typ 1 [T1D] ökar över hela världen. T1D är bland de vanligaste endokrina och autoimmuna sjukdomarna hos barn och ungdomar. För att identifiera problemområden som kan leda till förbättringar av omvårdande och minskning av de negativa upplevelserna, genomförs denna studie av barns och ungdomars upplevelser av lever med T1D. Syfte: Studiens syfte var att beskriva barns och ungdomars upplevelser av att leva med T1D. Metod: En allmän litteraturstudie baserad på Polit och Becks niostegsmodell. Tio artiklar inkluderades och granskades utifrån Graneheim och Lundmans kvalitativa innehållsanalys. Resultat: Tre kategorier identifierades: Nya känslor, Utmaningar med sociala sammanhang och Livsstilsförändringarnas betydelse och sex tillhörande underkategorier. Resultatet visade att barn och ungdomar upplever många negativa känslor, vanligtvis kopplade till egenvård. Slutsats: Att leva med T1D som barn eller ungdomar är en komplex resa i livet. Genom att vårdpersonalen blir medveten om tankar och känslor som rör sig inom barn och ungdomar kan vården bli bättre. Det behövs mer studier som fokuserar på detta område.Background: Diabetes mellitus type 1 [T1D] is increasing worldwide. T1D is among the most common endocrine and autoimmune diseases in children and adolescents. This study of the experiences of children and adolescents living with T1D is being done to identify areas of concern that could lead to improvements in care and reduction of negative experiences. Aim: To study was to describe children and adolescents' experiences of living with T1D. Method: A general literature study based on Polit and Beck's nine-step model. Ten articles were included and reviewed based on Graneheim and Lundman's qualitative content analysis. Results: Three categories were identified: New emotions, Challenges with social context and the importance of lifestyle changes and six associated subcategories. The results showed that children and adolescents experience many negative emotions, generally linked to self-care. Conclusions: Living with T1D as a child or adolescent is a complex journey in life. By making the care staff more aware of the thoughts and feelings that move within children and adolescents, the care can be improved. More studies focusing on this area are needed
