Los días de Josepha Ordóñez
Get PDFNarrated in this book are episodes from the life of a famous Spanish woman who entertained the Novohispanic court and society during the second half of the 18th century. The woman was Josepha Ordóñez, famous for her beauty and abilities. At the height of her achievements, she had managed—despite her common origins—to get involved in illegal businesses with the most important men in the kingdom and had become the most favored courtesan. She also had to suffer the moralist discourse and censorship of other administrations that punished her for her licentious way of living with imprisonment, exile and confiscation of her property. She was also famous for attempting to divorce her husband, with whom she was forced to live. She never ceased to defend her right to separate from a man who, until the end, she mistrusted, and she filed complaints and initiated disputes against him for slander. All of this ended with a definitive verdict from the courts in favor of her husband. The eyes of censorship maintained their gaze on Ordóñez until 1766, when she attended a bullfight where the court and the main actors in this story congregated, including the relentless visitor José de Gálvez, who had a great deal to do with her misfortunes. All of this makes it possible for the author to address the everyday life of that era, based on the paths that took Josepha through the world of politics, theater, fiestas, play, religiosity, matrimony, divorce, moral obligations, and lastly, the amorous intrigue that clearly permeated the customs and sentiments of that time.En este libro se narran episodios de la vida de una cómica española famosa en la corte y la sociedad novohispanas de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Se trata de Josepha Ordóñez, célebre por su galanura y sus habilidades, quien, pese a su origen plebeyo, en su mejor momento llegó a inmiscuirse en negocios ilícitos con los funcionarios más importantes del reino y a convertirse en la cortejada más favorecida. También tuvo que sufrir el discurso moralista y censor de otras administraciones que la castigaron por “libertina” con el confinamiento, el destierro y el secuestro de sus bienes. Célebre, igualmente, por intentar el divorcio de su marido, con el que fue obligada a convivir, nuca dejó de defender su derecho a separarse de un hombre con quien protagonizó hasta el final una relación de denuncias, desconfianza y pleitos injuriosos, que concluyeron con un fallo definitivo de los tribunales en favor del esposo. Los ojos de la censura se posaron en la Ordóñez hacia 1766, cuando asistió a unas corridas de toros que congregaron a la corte y a los principales actores de esta historia, entre ellos el implacable visitador José de Gálvez, que mucho tuvo que ver con las desgracias de ella. The water catchment : fast forward to the past
No full textThe Water Catchment: fast forward to the past comprises two parts: a creative piece and an exegesis. The methodology is Creative Practice as Research; a process of critical reflection, where I observe how researching the exegesis, in my case analysing how the social reality of an era in which an author writes affects their writing of the protagonist's journey, and how this in turn shapes how I write the hero's pathway in the creative piece. The genre in which the protagonist's journey is charted and represented is dystopian young adult fiction; hence my creative piece, The Water Catchment, is a novel manuscript for a dystopian young adult fantasy. It is a speculative novel set in a possible future and poses (and answers) the question: What might happen if water becomes the most powerful commodity on earth? There are two communities, called 'worlds' to create a barrier and difference where physical ones are not in evidence. A battle ensues over unfair conditions and access to water. In the end the protagonist, Caitlyn, takes over leadership heralding a new era of co-operation and water management between the two worlds.\ud

The exegesis examines how the hero's pathway, the journey towards knowledge and resolution, is best explored in young adult literature through dystopian narratives. I explore how the dystopian worlds of Ursula Le Guin's first and last books of The Earthsea Quartet are foundational, and lay this examination over an analysis of both the hero's pathway within and the social contexts outside of the novels. Dystopian narratives constitute a liberating space for the adolescent protagonist between the reliance on adults in childhood and the world of adults. In young adult literature such narratives provide fertile ground to explore those aspects informing an adolescent's future
Nostalgie v prózách Josepha Rotha ve třicátých letech 20. století
Get PDFThis thesis explores the feeling of nostalgia found in the works by Joseph Roth from the 1930's, namely in two novels (Radetzky March, The Emperor's Tomb) and one novella (The Bust of the Emperor). The main concern of the thesis is the Habsburg nostalgia and the longing for the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy that the author of these works experienced. The first part describes nostalgia (not only from a psychological but also from a philosophical point of view) and its occurrence in literature, especially in the German-written literature of the period after the First World War. The next chapters deal with the author and the historical context of the period. Joseph Roth's views and opinions were greatly influenced by various historical events and his life experiences, so this section outlines an overview of Austrian history relating to each of the three books, as well as the author's life journey. The second part of the thesis analyses the three above mentioned books from the perspective of the Habsburg nostalgia and the longing for the Austro-Hungarian monarchy through the eyes of the author but also from the perspective of the nostalgia of the individual characters who appear in the books. Some of the characters even share the author's attitudes and opinions. The analysis is supported by excerpts...Tato diplomová práce se zabývá pocitem nostalgie obsaženého v dílech Josepha Rotha z 30. let 20. století, konkrétně ve dvou románech (Pochod Radeckého, Kapucínská krypta) a jedné novele (Císařova bysta). Jedná se zejména o habsburskou nostalgii a stesk po zaniklé Rakousko-uherské monarchii, které autor těchto děl pociťoval. V první části je popsána nostalgie (nejen z psychologického, ale i z filozofického hlediska) a její výskyt v literatuře, zejména v německy psané literatuře z období po první světové válce. Další kapitoly se věnují autorovi a historickému kontextu doby. Myšlenky a postoje Josepha Rotha byly značně ovlivněny historickými událostmi a jeho životními zkušenostmi, proto je v této části nastíněn přehled Rakouských dějin vztahujících se k jednotlivým Rothovým knihám a také autorova životní cesta. V druhé části se práce věnuje analýzám tří výše zmíněných knih, a to z pohledu habsburské nostalgie a stesku po zaniklé monarchii očima autora, ale i z pohledu nostalgie jednotlivých postav, které v knihách vystupují. Některé z postav dokonce sdílí autorovy postoje a názory. Analýza je provázena úryvky a citacemi z jednotlivých děl, na nichž jsou diskutovány poznatky zkoumání. Jednocześnie można dziś już stwierdzić, że myśl niemieckiego Teologa jest na tyle dostępna, iż możliwe staje się całościowe i krytyczne opracowanie poszczególnych zagadnień z jego spuścizny teologicznej. Autor niniejszego artykułu podjął się opracowania jednego z kluczowych tematów dla refleksji teologicznofundamentalnej – rozumienia wiarygodności Kościoła. Temat ten nie znalazł całościowego i systematycznego opracowania w twórczości J. Ratzingera. Jednocześnie analiza jego twórczości wskazuje, że za poszczególnymi opracowaniami o charakterze cząstkowym kryje się określona koncepcja wiarygodności Kościoła. Get PDFThe author succinctly discusses the martyrological dimension of the Petrine primacy on the basis of the teachings of Joseph Ratzinger–Benedict XVI. The paper presents the biblical foundation of the prophecy of St. Peter’s death as a martyr given by the Resurrected Jesus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, offering an analysis of the Greek text of John 21:18–19. In his further reflections, the author discusses the development of the term “witness” in its Greek and Christian understanding. Then, he briefly addresses the significance of a martyr as defined by Christian theology, explaining the dimensions of red and white martyrdom. In the fourth and last part of the paper, elements of martyrological primacy are presented, including a reference to the work by Cardinal Reginald Pole as quoted by Joseph Ratzinger.Autor artykułu w sposób zwięzły omawia element martyrologiczny wymiaru prymatu piotrowego w oparciu o nauczanie Josepha Ratzingera-Benedykta XVI. W swoim artykule ukazuje podstawę biblijną zapowiedzi męczeńskiej śmierci św. Radiation Safety Management System for the Finnish Industry - Company specific development and implementation
Get PDFOperating with radiation, radiation sources and radiation devices requires the fulfilment of certain legal criteria. European minimum requirements on radiation safety are defined in the Euratom Directive, which was published in 2013 and has been legally binding since 2018. As a reaction to the Directive’s amendment to the earlier version, the Finnish Parliament had to adjust the Finnish Radiation Act. The Finnish Radiation Act defines the most prominent legal requirements that radiation operators must comply to. The Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) is authorized to inspect whether organizations follow national legislation. In case of non-compliance STUK withdraws permitted licenses and ceases the radiation operation.
The case company acknowledged the importance of radiation safety compliance for its operational performance and requested this Master’s Thesis to assess its level of compliance with the Finnish Radiation Act. The objective of this Thesis is to create a general as well as one location specific Radiation Safety Management System. Furthermore, the case company requested an instructive Guide to enable all its Finland locations to create their own location specific Radiation Safety Management System.
At first, a literature review was conducted to summarize applicable and case company specific radiation safety legislation in a Legal Model Framework. The Legal Model Framework served as a template for the Current State Analysis which was conducted by interviewing Radiation Safety Officers of each location. Member checking with the Radiation Safety Officers and peer debriefings with case company’s Radiation Safety Expert and process management expert ensured validity and reliability of the findings throughout the Master’s Thesis process.
The literature review revealed, that license holders in Finland must provide the following four documents: Radiation Safety Assessment, Radiation Management System, Quality Assurance Program, and a Plan on Radiation Safety Deviations. The Current State Analysis uncovered, that case company’s locations are lacking some of these documents. Further, the findings implicated that locations’ local management could increase their level of support and involvement with radiation safety.
To address this issue the researcher emphasized local management’s responsibility regarding radiation safety in the Radiation Safety Procedure- document. This document resembles the general Radiation Safety Management System and will be included in the case company’s general management system. Further, the work provides the company with a Guide consisting of document templates with instructions and best-practice examples on how to fill the Radiation Management System, the Quality Assurance Program, and the Plan on Radiation Safety Deviations. These tools will enable the case company to achieve compliance with the Finnish Radiation Act. To benefit the radiation industry in Finland this work publishes the generalized document templates and the Legal Model Framework.
The Thesis proposes a reformation of the company’s radiation safety management towards stronger local management involvement, active cooperation of radiation safety work between locations and coordinated communication with the Radiation Safety Expert. As further action this Master’s Thesis recommends the implementation of the provided radiation safety tools and their continuous improvement

“People Who Fill the Spaces”: Jodi Picoult and the Sarah Josepha Hale Award
No full textThis paper discusses the implications of Sarah Josepha Hale’s polarizing opposition to the franchise of women on her legacy award, given to many authors since its inception, but most notably to contemporary women writers whom Hale likely would have rejected. In 2019, the award went to Jodi Picoult, an author who bridges journalistic writing on topics such as abortion, white supremacy, and gun violence, among others, with fiction novel writing. Hale’s own works are archived through the Richards Free Library, and as such, the award is given for the entire collective body of work of one nominated literary person. The award impacts not only Picoult’s career but Hale’s legacy as an open opposer to the franchise of women, as well as the opportunities for contemporary women writers

Get PDFThe paper examines various aspects of magic, ghosts and voices in selected works by Joseph Conrad who repeatedly drew on some unnatural occurrences, though they were frequently depreciated by the author himself. In his artistic output Conrad created many such complex figures that may pose a challenge in an interpretative process. Thus, the goal of this paper is to explore the functions of magical and spectral manifestations in Conrad’s writing in order to show certain tendencies that can be discerned while studying the subject matter. As a result of the given analysis it is possible to notice similarities and differences between manifestations of the supernatural presented in Conrad’s texts as well as to propose a classification of these phenomena, which reflects the multidimensional nature of Conrad’s artistic style.Niniejszy artykuł bada istotę magii, duchów i głosów w wybranych utworach Josepha Conrada, który niejednokrotnie czerpie inspiracje z nadnaturalnych zdarzeń – motywu często deprecjonowanego przez samego pisarza. W swoim dorobku artystycznym angielski autor stworzył wiele złożonych osobliwości będących wyzwaniem w procesie interpretacji. Dlatego też główny cel artykułu sprowadza się do przedstawienia funkcji magii i zjaw w tekstach Conrada oraz zobrazowania konkretnych tendencji i zależności w odniesieniu do przedmiotu badań.
