Lessons in Leadership: Patricia E. Benner
Lessons in Leadership: The Betty Irene Moore Speaker Series embodies Betty Irene Moore\u27s vision and hope for nurses to lead within their teams, organizations and communities, with the ultimate goal of improving the experience and outcomes of patient care. Through personal experience, Betty recognized that nurses play a critical role in providing safe, high-quality patient care and outcomes. They are caregivers, mentors, teachers and researchers; and they provide 95 percent of direct patient care in hospitals. This recognition gave rise to the Betty Irene Moore Nursing Initiative, with building leadership skills in nurses as one of its main strategies.

Ron Benner : Trans/mission : African Vectors
McFarlane examines Benner's photo-based works and garden installations. The author points to the tenderness with which Benner "tends" to his plants, and contrasts this care with the violence embedded in agricultural history, which he views as a metaphor for systems of socio-political domination. The imperialist travels of Portuguese explorer Pedro Alvares Cabral are discussed in relation to the circulation of plant species from the Americas to Africa and Europe. Towards an alternative to Benner’s theory of expert intuition in nursing: A discussion paper
Several authors have highlighted the role of intuition in expertise. In particular, a large amount of data has been collected about intuition in expert nursing, and intuition plays an important role in the influential theory of nursing expertise developed by Benner (1984). We discuss this theory, and highlight both data that support it and data that challenge it. Based on this assessment, we propose a new theory of nursing expertise and intuition, which emphasizes how perception and conscious problem solving are intimately related. In the discussion, we propose that this theory opens new avenues of enquiry for research into nursing expertise
