O enigma da esfinge: o pensamento político de Samuel Benchimol e Djalma Batista
No full textIn the fifties and sixties decades of the twentieth century, several intellectuals began to reflect on what would be the most effective ways to integrate the Amazon to Brazil. At that time, the region was emerging of a long period of economic stagnation and became a space of capitalist reproduction during the military dictatorship with the establishment of the development project, Amazon Operation. The present article intends to analyze and understand the main politicals ideas of Djalma Batista e Samuel Benchimol, who had an active voice in the debates about the paths to be traced by the region. We seek to systematize the reflexions of these authors about the function of State, national/regional integration and development as they are key ideas in their thought. The thought of these authors was generated by the necessity of the regional elites to put an end to the economic stagnation after the First World War; it was also a way to try to solve the regional issue, facing it as a social and political problem that would only be solved with the social and economic integration to Brazil.En los años 1950 y 1960, varios intelectuales comenzaron a reflexionar acerca de caminos eficaces para integrar la Amazonia a Brasil. La región salía de un largo período de paralización económica y se convertía en espacio de reproducción capitalista, con la implantación del proyecto de desarrollo Operación Amazonia. El artículo pretende comprender las ideas políticas de Djalma Batista y Samuel Benchimol, voces activas en los debates sobre los rumbos a ser trillados por la región. A partir de sus principales obras, procuramos sistematizar las reflexiones sobre la función del Estado, integración regional / nacional y desarrollo, ideas clave de su pensamiento. Tal pensamiento, a su vez, fue generado por la necesidad de las elites regionales de poner fin al estancamiento económico de la región después de la Primera Guerra Mundial; también fue una forma de intentar resolver la cuestión regional, tomando como un problema social y político que sólo se resolvería con la integración social y económica a Brasil.Nos anos de 1950 e 1960, vários intelectuais começaram a refletir acerca de caminhos eficazes para integrar a Amazônia ao Brasil. A região saía de um longo período de marasmo econômico e se tornava espaço de reprodução capitalista, com a implantação do projeto de desenvolvimento Operação Amazônia. O artigo visa compreender as ideias políticas de Djalma Batista e Samuel Benchimol, vozes ativas nos debates sobre os rumos a serem trilhados pela região. A partir de suas principais obras, procuramos sistematizar as reflexões sobre a função do Estado, integração regional/nacional e desenvolvimento, ideias-chave de seu pensamento. Tal pensamento, por sua vez, foi gerado pela necessidade das elites regionais de pôr fim à estagnação econômica da região após a Primeira Guerra Mundial; também foi uma forma de tentarem resolver a questão regional, tomando-a como um problema social e político que só seria resolvida com a integração social e econômica ao Brasil

No full textIn this, we studied elements of Jewish culture in “Um pedaço de lua caía na mata” by Paulo Jacob and “Cabelos de fogo” by Marcos Serruya. “Um pedaço de lua caía na mata”, tells the story of Solomon and his family, who seek to remain Jewish in a culturally rich environment, fighting not to abandon their beliefs. “Cabelos de fogo” tells the story of Hana, a Jewish woman who was brought to the Amazon to become prostitutes. In addition to prostitution, Hana had to adapt to an unfamiliar culture. In them we find different aspects of Jewish culture such as: festivities, expressions and customs. Described in a contextualized way, building on a translation between Jewish and Amazonian cultures. We investigated how this process of cultural translation took place. For the theoretical-historical basis we used the works of Samuel Benchimol (2008), Reginaldo Heller (2010), Regina Igel (1997), among others. For cultural translation studies, we will use Peter Burke (2000).Estudamos neste, elementos da cultura judaica em “Um pedaço de lua caía na mata” de Paulo Jacob e “Cabelos de fogo” de Marcos Serruya. “Um pedaço de lua caía na mata”, narra a história de Salomão e sua família, que busca se manter judeu frente a um ambiente culturalmente rico, lutando para não abandonar suas crenças. Já “Cabelos de fogo” é narrada a história de Hana, judia que foi trazida para a Amazônia para se prostituir. Além da prostituição, Hana precisou se adaptar a uma cultura desconhecida. Neles encontramos diversos aspectos da cultura judaica como: festividades, expressões e costumes. Descritos de forma contextualizada, construindo em uma tradução entre as culturas judaica e amazônica. Investigamos como se deu esse processo de tradução cultural. Para o embasamento teórico-histórico usamos as obras de Samuel Benchimol (2008), Reginaldo Heller (2010), Regina Igel (1997), entre outros. Aos estudos da tradução cultural, utilizaremos Peter Burke (2000)
Writing and the rights of reality: usurpation and potentiality in Derrida, Plato, Nietzsche, and Beckett
No full textThe thesis critically evaluates Jacques Derrida's conferral of the rights of reality on writing, focussing on his theory of an arche-text in light of the speculative nature of this theory. The theory is initially considered in the context of Derrida's elucidation of the usurpatory status of writing within the Platonic and Nietzschean texts. This consideration reveals an admission of writing's usurpatory status by both writers while at the same time demonstrating their awareness of the intrinsically speculative nature of this view, the significance of writing lying in its ability to exteriorise the radically indeterminate status of consciousness m relation to reality rather than its ability to displace consciousness or reality The analyses, therefore, not only bring the Derridean hypothesis of a repressive or phonocentric metaphysical episteme into question but also exhibit the historical and philosophical role of potentiality in relation to writing, writing's ultimate significance lying in its capacity to exteriorise our existence as a mode of potentiality. Accordingly, in the second half of the thesis the Derridean theory of writing is countered with a specifically Aristotelian theory of the text as it is exhibited in the prose of Samuel Beckett, an author whose significance lies in his close alignment with Derridean theory within contemporary criticism. It is demonstrated that this identification has obviated an awareness of the significance of potentiality within the Beckettian text, his work consequently being appraised in the previously neglected context of Aristotelian metaphysics
