Podcast With Oleg Benesch - Co-Author Of "Japan's Castles Citadels Of Modernity In War And Peace"
We caught up with Oleg Benesch to talk about his new book "Japan's Castles: Citadels of Modernity in War and Peace," co-authored with Ran Zwigenberg.
In the podcast Dr Benesch talks about what motivated them to write a book about castles that is not military history; writing a book with another author who lives in another part of the world; the meaning of modernity; the ambiguous relationship between history and heritage; and why issues of “space” matter in history
Approaching in distribution with applications to resampling of stochastic processes
We introduce the notion of weak approaching and conditionally weak approaching sequences of random processes. This notion generalizes the conventional weak convergence, and has been proposed for real valued random variables in Belyaev (1995). Some of the standard tools for an investigation of the behaviour of weak approaching sequences of random elements in metric spaces are developed. The spaces of smoothed and right-continuous functions with left-hand limits are considered. This technique allows us to use the resampling approach for an evaluation of distributions of continuous functionals on realizations of sum of an increasing number of independent random processes. Two numerical examples are presented for such functionals as supremum and number of level crossings.</p
OLEG NEGRUȚA’S COMPOSITIONAL VISION ON NICCOLÓ PAGANINI’S CAPRICE No. 24
Among the musical works dedicated by the composer Oleg Negruţa to the wind instruments is his Fantasy on a Theme by Paganini for piano and clarinet. Borrowing from the great violinist’s form and thematism, the author blended some neoclassical elements with others, typical of the jazz manner, featuring to the famous capriccio another character than the original one. In addition, combining three different terms – fantasy, capriccio and theme with variations – Oleg Negruța signed a piece whose form, structure and content are dictated rather by the composer’s free fantasy than by some traditional techniques. This article is proposed to highlight some aspects in order to demonstrate the authenticity of the author’s compositional vision on Paganini’s theme
Friends with or without benefits? An empirical evaluation of bilateral trade and economic integration between some of the post-Soviet economies.
This dataset reproduces empirical results for the paper Friends with or without benefits? An empirical review of trade integration between some of the post-Soviet economies. Eurasian Economic Review (2022). It includes i) augmented gravity analysis and ii) impact of bilateral\multilateral FTA/PTA agreements for the EUEA members: Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. This research was funded in whole by National Science Centre, Poland under PRELUDIUM 20 grant №2021/41/N/HS4/00759. Works of Oleg Pavlov in Context of Literary Reflection: A Review of Research
This article addresses the issue of literary reflection on the artistic legacy of contemporary Russian writer Oleg Pavlov. The study is based on critical and journalistic articles, literary analyses of the author’s works, and selected literary pieces. It presents an attempt at a systematic description, generalization, and analysis of Oleg Pavlov’s poetics. For the first time, the article proposes a periodization of the writer’s oeuvre. The author identifies and interprets the classical stages of Pavlov’s creative biography — early (“biographical”), mature (“critical-journalistic”), and late (“reflective”). It is established that literary criticism has offered a mixed assessment of the writer’s artistic mastery, presenting contradictory judgments ranging from condescending and tolerant to sharp and accusatory. On one hand, his prose is associated with the classical literary tradition; on the other hand, a cliché of the “gloomy” writer has emerged. The article highlights a sustained interest in Oleg Pavlov’s works within academic literary studies, identifying mythopoetic, philosophical, historical-cultural, and linguistic research directions. The author concludes that current philological reflection opens up research perspectives in the study of Pavlov’s poetics as a representative of “new realism” in contemporary Russian literature
