Abolitionism in Red and Black
This chapter aims to show how the writings of early socialist and anarchist thinkers can, and do, speak to present debates on abolitionism. It begins by situating socialist, anarchist and penal abolitionist praxis within historical context, detailing some well-known examples of anarchist and socialist-inspired penal abolitionism in the early 20th century. It then explores not only how ‘mainstream’, statist and democratic socialism has a mixed relationship with penal abolitionism, but also discusses the continuing significance of grassroots libertarian socialist and other penal abolitionist organizing today outside of the orbit of the state. The third section of the chapter explores the ‘libertarian socialist tradition’ by giving an overview of five key themes that are shared among anarchists, socialists and penal abolitionists: the critique of power; the critique of social and economic inequalities; the valorization of freedom; the importance of solidarity, mutual aid and cooperation; and a moral compass informed and evaluated by libertarian socialist ethics. Finally, it argues that socialists and anarchists working together is key to successfully challenging the penal rationale of the State in the future
Digital organizational storytelling on YouTube: constructing plausibility through network protocols of amateurism, affinity, and authenticity: constructing plausibility through network protocols of amateurism, affinity, and authenticity
In this article, we focus on “digital organizational storytelling” as a communicative practice that relies on technologies enabled by the Internet. The article explores the dialogical potential of digital organizational storytelling and considers how this affects the relationship between online storytellers and audiences. We highlight the importance of network protocols in shaping how stories are understood. Our analysis is based on a case study of an organization, which produces online animated videos critical of corporate practices that negatively affect society. It highlights the network protocols of amateurism, affinity, and authenticity on which the plausibility of digital organizational storytelling relies. Through demonstrating what happens when network protocols are breached, the article contributes toward understanding digital organizational storytelling as a dialogical practice that opens up spaces for oppositional meaning making and can be used to challenge the power of corporations

Introduction to the Handbook of Feminist Research Methodologies in Management and Organization Studies
The chapter functions as an introduction to the Handbook of Feminist Methodologies in Management and Organization Studies. The book celebrates the richness of feminist methodologies focusing on qualitative research. It traces important theoretical developments and their methodological consequences both within established theoretical debates as well as in those that has gained more foothold in MOS research more recently including feminist postcolonial theory, critical race theory and feminist posthumanism. The chapter focuses on three key themes of feminist research visible throughout the chapters of the book: epistemologies of feminist research, the politics of knowledge in feminist research as well as care, responsibility and response-ability in feminist research. The chapter further introduces the book’s four parts. The first part focuses on feminist theories and methodologies, the second on feminist critique and methodological responses, the third on data and knowing subjects and, the fourth on doing feminist research. The book is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students and scholars in MOS in addition to researchers in other social science disciplines
Empowering Methodologies in Organisational and Social Research
This chapter considers the meaning and practice of empowering methodologies in organizational and social research. We begin by explaining the reasons why empowering research is urgently needed, which are related to the repositivization of research in a context of global academic precarity. Next, we reflect on the situatedness of knowing and knowledge in the context of core periphery relations between the global North and South. We discuss the epistemological arguments on which empowering methodologies rely and the ethical and political purposes they serve, drawing on concepts developed by feminist epistemologists and methodologists. We then consider the sensory, affective, embodied practice of empowering research which involves listening, seeing, moving and feeling, which we suggest can facilitate a more diverse, creative and crafty repertoire of research possibilities. Finally, we identify three aspects of empowering research, showing how they relate to each of the chapters that comprise this volume
