Data on body measurements like BL (body length), CG (chest girth), WH (wither height) TM (test day milk production), PM (peak milk production), LP (lactation period), CFDC (cost for concentrate feed before test day milk production per cow), GGU (green grass used before test day milk production per cow) and husbandry practices, were collected from a total of 100 dairy cattle at the villages of Islampur upazila under the district of Jamalpur in Bangladesh from January to February 2017. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS software. The highest BL, CG, WH, CFDC and GGU were 175.71±0.42 cm, 161.74±0.24 cm,123.82±0.11 cm 125.54±0.24 bdt/cow/day and 27.29±0.89 kg/cow/day, respectively. The highest amounts of TM, PM and LP were 9.36±0.60 liter/cow, 13.11±0.54 liter/cow and 247.14±1.47 days/cow, respectively. BL, CG and WH increased with increased of the age of crossbred cattle up to 150 months of old. Similarly, CFDC and GGU increased with the increased of the age of crossbred cattle up to 150 months of old. Farmers in the study area were not interested to keep breeding bulls for breeding purpose but they were using artificial insemination system to inseminate their cows and aware about production performance record of the inseminating bull. Farmers took health services from milk vita and sold milk to the same. They believed that dairy cattle rearing a profitable livelihood. TM, PM and LP increased with the increased of the age of crossbred cattle up to 150 months of old. However, increase of CFDC will increase TM, LP and PM but increase of GGU will increase only LP. On the other hand increase of CG will increase TM and increase of BL will increase LP and PM.Res. Agric., Livest. Fish.4(2): 91-98, August 2017</jats:p

Myelolipoma is a rare benign hormonally inactive adrenal neoplasm containing mature adipose tissue and a variable amount of haematopoietic elements.Their mostly small size, unilateral site and clinical quiescence are accountable for predominantly incidental disclosure. A symptomatic case of myelolipoma was presented in our hospital with generalized body swelling ,body rash and intermittent dull abdominal pain .He had H/O taking steroid for last 10 yrs to increase body weight and for better felling . All laboratory investigations were found within normal limit and he was referred to our department for radiological investigations. Plain X-ray, USG and CT scan of abdomen was done which revealed an well capsulated circumscribed highly echogenic , fat density soft tissue mass in right lumbar region which was suspected as suprarenal mass possibly myelolipoma and it was confirmed by FNAC as myelolipoma of right adrenal gland.J Shaheed Suhrawardy Med Coll, June 2016, Vol.8(1); 34-36</jats:p

No full text
Background: Lung cancer has been the most common cancer in the world since 1985 and the leading cause of cancer death. Worldwide it is by far the most common cancer of men and increasingly being recognized in Bangladesh. Objective: To observe the profile of lung cancer patients and the outcome of chemotherapy. Method: In one year (1st January’08 to 31st December’08) the lung cancer patients who attended the dept. of Medical Oncology were included in this study. The patient’s history, clinical evaluation, previous treatment record (surgical intervention, chemotherapy and radiotherapy), histopathology and other investigation reports were documented. Chemotherapy and or supportive and symptomatic treatment carried out in the department were noted and response of the treatment were observed and documented. Result: Total number of patients was 701.Of them, 608 males and 93 females; male female ratio: 6.53:1. Common occurrence (> 85%) at and above 50 years of old; age range 25 years to 95 years and mean age 62 years; 44% was illiterate and 40% had primary school education; more than 82% belonged to poor and bellow average socioeconomic status. Previous records showed 524 patients (about 75%) attended after diagnosis and 177 cases (25%) had had prior treatment (6 by surgery, 22 by radiotherapy and 147 by chemotherapy). On clinical evaluation, almost all patients were symptomatic with WHO Grade-2 (44.51%) and Grade -3 (26.68%) performance status. Right lung was affected more (55%). Pathologically non-small cell carcinoma was 81.45% and small cell carcinoma 18.55%. But histopathology differed by sex; squamous cell carcinoma (43.42%) was most common in male but in female it was adenocarcinoma (55.92%). All most all cases were at inoperable stage (locally advanced/metastatic cancer/ medically unfit). Thirty percent of male patients and 45% of females dropped out after first and second visit. Around 20% patients got only supportive symptomatic management in both sexes and 326 patients (296 male and 30 female) were treated by chemotherapy. Within three to six months of treatment, 10% of the patients showed complete symptomatic relief, weight gaining and radiological disappearance of tumor and all most all patients benefited of some sorts of symptoms relief. Conclusion: The lung cancer patients were at inoperable stages with WHO Grade 2 and Grade 3 performance status in most of the cases; needed much more supportive and symptomatic treatment. Chemotherapy was effective; complete clinical and radiological response in 10% of cases and others got benefit with some sorts of symptoms relief and radiological improvement. No full text
The present work aimed at studying growth performance, carcass traits and health status in broiler chicken fed on dietary Neem (Azadirachta indica) leaf Meal (NLM) over a period of 4 weeks. Day old broiler chicks (180) were randomly assigned to six treatment groups, each with 3 replicates (10). The last treatment was designated as control (T6) in which no supplement was added to the feed, on the other hand T5 named as antibiotic group which contain antibiotic supplement with feed, while in treatments T1, T2 and T3, T4 NLP was provided as 1.0%,1.5%, 2.0% and 2.5% of feed, respectively. All the data were analyzed statistically at 5% level of significance. The results revealed a significant (P<0.05) decrease in feed intake (2101 g and 2104 g ) at 4 weeks in T3 and T4 group bird, but produced live weight (1708 g and 1712 g) which had no significant (P>0.05) difference with birds consumed highest amount of feed. The significantly (P<0.05) highest hemoglobin (16.33 gm/dl) was in 2.0% NLM broiler chicken than other Neem, control and antibiotic groups. No significant (P>0.05) difference was found in glucose and cholesterol for any treatment groups of broiler chicken, but significantly lowest (P<0.05) uric acid was observed in 1.50% NLM treated group than antibiotic group. The NLM treated groups broiler chicken showed no significant (P>0.05) difference in Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Monocytes and Eosinophils counts comparing with antibiotic and control groups. Neem treated groups showed significantly (P<0.05) higher liver weight (43.67 g to 46.67 g) than antibiotic group (31.0 g). Spleen weights were not affected (P>0.05) by any treatments. The highest (P<0.05) viable bacteria was found in control group (163 x 104) than antibiotic (33 x 104) and Neem treated groups. But, Neem and antibiotic treated groups showed no significant (P>0.05) difference among them. The results of the study demonstrate the beneficial effects of supplementing NLM on body weight gain and dressed yield in the treated groups in broiler chicken. NLM is, therefore, suggested to be used as an alternative of antibiotics on broiler chicken ration for higher profitability

Detecting the provenance of price hike in agri-food supply chain using private Ethereum blockchain network

No full text
The rise in the cost of essentials affects every nation around the world, but it has become a major concern for developing nations. It is getting increasingly difficult to keep up with rising prices for everyday items in these countries, where the majority of the population is from the middle class or lower middle class. Inflation, pandemics, wars, and other important variables all contribute to price increases. There may be another significant factor at play, which is supply-chain corruption. The supply chain's unreliable, chaotic, and opaque nature is to blame for this corruption. We are concentrating on the agri-food supply chain in our study. Because many of the current agri-food supply chains are intricate and challenging to monitor, dishonest parties can exploit the situation. Therefore, we suggested a thorough blockchain-based agri-food supply chain to identify the source of price increases. The private Ethereum blockchain was used in the suggested system. Since the private Ethereum blockchain is more efficient, safe, and fast, it was chosen. Smart contracts were created to describe the system and its underlying rules and laws. Furthermore, in order to showcase the usefulness of our smart contracts, we exhibited a sample decentralized application to support our hypothesis. We also gave the system a complete security and vulnerability assessment to make sure it is operating properly and is protected from threats and attacks. Due to the use of blockchain, the system is immutable, transparent, and simple to track and monitor. The proposed system has demonstrated greater transparency, traceability, reliability, speed, security, and cost-efficiency compared to conventional systems. It effectively traces the origin of corruption in the supply chain, providing a more straightforward means to tackle concerns related to price hikes

Introduction: To achieve the best anesthetic outcome in pregnant women undergoing cesarean deliveries, spinal anaesthesia is the most popularly preferred method. The present study assessed the sensory and motor blockade outcome, following the administration of single bolus dose versus fractionated dose of bupivacaine as spinal anesthesia, in terms of the time of onset and regression, in cesarean section deliveries. Methods: With ethical approval from the corresponding authority and informed written consent from the patients, this study included 100 randomly selected, singleton, non-complicated pregnant women admitted in the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, during the period of July 2018 to June 2019, for elective LUCS. Patients were randomly divided into two equal groups- Group A and Group B, each comprised of 50 patients. Following the standard protocol to administer spinal anesthesia, Group A patients were given a single bolus dose of bupivacaine over 10 seconds and Group B patients were given fractionated dose of bupivacaine with two-third of the total calculated dose given initially, followed by one-third dose after 90 seconds. The age, height and physical status of the patients, the time of onset and regression of sensory and motor block were assessed and recorded. The post-operative pain was assessed with the linear visual analog scale (VAS) every 30 min after surgery for the first 2 hours then hourly up to 6 hours and the duration of analgesia was recorded. All the data has been analyzed with the help of IBM SPSS software (Statistical Package for Social Science) version-22. Results: The mean of the onset of sensory and motor block was faster in Group A than in group B, in case of sensory block onset it was 1.6 ± 0.5 min in Group A and 2.3± 0.8 min in Group B and in case of motor block onset it was 5.4 ± 1.1 min in Group A and 5.9± 1.2 min in Group B (p>0.05). The duration of sensory (Group A: 143.5 ± 23.7, Group B: 212.7 ± 38.6) and motor block (Group A: 118.5 ± 22.5, Group B: 175.2 ± 28.3 was significantly higher in group B than in group A, (p<0.05). Group A patients had a significantly higher mean of the VAS score than Group B patients at each time point (p<0.05). The mean of the duration of analgesia was statistically significantly higher in Group B (235.1± 29.2) than in Group A (198.5±21.3) (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study concludes with the findings that, fractionated administration of bupivacaine in spinal anesthesia provides better aesthetic outcomes in terms of prolonged duration of sensory and motor block

No full text
Carrot (Daucus carota L.) is a root crop. It belongs to the umbelliferae family. Carrot contains the highest amount of carotene among all the fruits and vegetables which the body converts to vitamin-A. Carrot was dried in a solar drier and packed in polyethylene bags, heat sealed and kept in tin container at ambient temperature for 8 (eight) months. Moisture, reducing sugar, total sugar, starch, protein, fat, vitamin-C, ß-carotene content, energy value and reconstitution time of the product were analysed during its storage period at the interval of 2 months. The initial nutrient of fresh carrot and solar dried carrot for the above parameters were analysed. During the storage period protein, starch and total sugar content decreased slightly, vitamin-C decreased remarkably, â-carotene content decreased very slowly and moisture content increased gradually. Sensory properties such as appearance, colour, flavour, texture, taste and physical parameters such as over-all shrinkage ratio, drying ratio, rehydration ratio of the product were also assessed. By assessing all the parameters it is revealed that the product is acceptable for 6 (Six) months. No full text
Dietary fibres are known to provide health benefit and protect against degenerative chronic diseases. Thus, the present study reports the total dietary fibre (TDF) content of sixty-nine selected ethnic and unconventional vegetables and fruits growing in Bangladesh. The samples were collected from different locations of Bangladesh and mixed together to ensure sample representativeness. Dietary fibre assay kit according to the AOAC method was utilized for the analysis of TDF in selected vegetables and fruits. In the ethnic varieties, the TDF content ranged from 1.02 ± 0.16 to 7.16 ± 0.16 g for leafy (LV), 0.18 ± 0.01 to 6.71 ± 0.49 g for non-leafy vegetables (NLV) and 1.21 ± 0.12 to 5.29 ± 0.20 g for fruits per 100 g edible portion (EP). In the unconventional items, it arrayed from 3.08 ± 0.34 g to 7.75 ± 0.13 g for LV and 1.02 ± 0.06 to 8.82 ± 0.40 g for NLV per 100 g EP. Among the analysed samples, the highest and lowest content of TDF was found in Orohordal and Mairabokong, respectively. The unconventional vegetables contained much higher content of TDF than the ethnics and the commonly consumed similar varieties. Data on TDF content in underutilized vegetables and fruits of Bangladesh is sparse. Thus, the finding of this study would fill up the data gap in the existing food composition table of Bangladesh and also would aware the people to take vegetables and fruits rich in fibres
