A Critical Analysis of Preventive Ophthalmology and Chakshushopanishad Mantra: Scientific Correlations and Therapeutic Potential
Background:Traditional Vedic practices, Ayurvedic principles, and ocular exercises such as the Bates method have long been associated with vision enhancement and ocular health. This study evaluates the combined effects of Chakshushopanishad mantra chanting, Ayurvedic interventions, and controlled sunlight exposure on visual acuity, refractive errors, and ocular hydration.
Methods:A structured observational and experimental study was conducted on participants aged 18–65 years with varying degrees of ocular conditions. Interventions included daily mantra chanting, water charged with metal ions (copper, silver, and gold), Ayurvedic eye care practices (Nasya and Anjana), and the Bates sunning method. Outcomes were assessed through Snellen visual acuity tests, refractive error measurements, contrast sensitivity evaluation, and tear film stability analysis.
Results:Participants demonstrated a 65% improvement in Snellen visual acuity, with a significant reduction in refractive errors (-1.75D to -1.25D, p<0.05). Contrast sensitivity scores increased by 70% (p<0.01), suggesting enhanced retinal adaptation. Tear film breakup time (TFBUT) showed a 36% improvement, indicating better ocular hydration and reduced dry eye symptoms. Subjective feedback reported lower eye strain, reduced glare sensitivity, and improved night vision. Spectroscopic analysis confirmed the presence of copper and silver ions, supporting their potential bioactivity in ocular health

Carcinoma Cervix and Hiv: A Retrospective Study and Outcome
Background: Carcinoma cervix is a major global health problem, particularly in resource-limited settings. Co-existing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection worsens disease progression, complicates treatment, and adversely affects prognosis.Aim: To assess the impact of HIV on clinical presentation, treatment response, and outcomes in patients with cervical cancer.Materials and Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Radiation Oncology, PMT Loni, Maharashtra. Five HIV-positive patients with histopathologically confirmed carcinoma cervix treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CTRT) were evaluated. Data on demographics, FIGO stage, CD4 counts, treatment details, toxicities (CTCAE v5), and response (RECIST 1.1) were analyzed. Results: Patients were aged 46–74 years; two had stage I disease, two stage II, and one stage III. Late treatment-related toxicities occurred in three patients (60%). Two patients (40%) developed recurrence within one year, while two (40%) achieved complete response. Conclusion: HIV infection negatively influences treatment tolerance and outcomes in carcinoma cervix. Early HIV detection, optimized antiretroviral therapy, and close immune monitoring are crucial for improving prognosis
Reversing Plantar Keratoderma with Classical Homeopathy: A Case Report
Keratoderma refers to a group of skin conditions characterized by abnormal thickening of the skin, especially over the palms and soles. Plantar keratoderma specifically affects the soles, leading to thickened, scaly, and sometimes fissured skin. In this case, a 58-year-old female presented with chronic eruptions, ulcers, thickened skin, sticky discharges, and itching over both feet for four months. An individualized homeopathic approach based on her symptom totality was adopted at Dr Batra’s. Over time, significant improvement was observed with with no recurrence. This case demonstrates the potential of homeopathy in managing chronic keratoderma effectively
The Fallopian Tube’s Hidden Secret: Serous Tubal Intraepithelial Carcinoma and its Revolution in Ovarian Cancer - A Systematic Review
BACKGROUND: The understanding of ovarian cancer pathogenesis has been fundamentally revised. High-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), the commonest lethal subtype, is now known to mostly originate from serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma (STIC). This finding came with significant implications for prevention, diagnosis, and clinical management of this condition.
OBJECTIVES: This systematic review put together the current evidence on STIC, particularly focusing on its role in ovarian carcinogenesis, the consequent choice of opportunistic salpingectomy (OS) for prevention, and the persistent clinical/pathological challenges in its diagnosis.
METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase was conducted for studies published between 2016 and 2024. Search terms included "serous tubal intraepithelial carcinoma," "STIC," "ovarian cancer origin," "opportunistic salpingectomy," and "fallopian tube precursor." Studies were screened for relevance to the pathological criteria, clinical management, and preventive strategies related to STIC.
RESULTS: The fallopian tube fimbria as the site of origin for most of HGSCs. OS is emerging as a effective prevention strategy, with data showing a significant reduction in ovarian malignancy incidence. Pathologically, the diagnosis of STIC relies on a combination of severe morphological atypia and an aberrant p53 immunohistochemical pattern. The management of an incidental STIC, particularly in risk-reducing surgery, is controversial due to uncertainties about its metastatic potential.
CONCLUSION: STIC discovery has significantly changed ovarian cancer prevention, making opportunistic salpingectomy a new standard of care. Diagnostic challenges and a lack of consensus on the clinical management of isolated STIC lesions reveal critical areas for future research
Predictors of Epilepsy Following Febrile Seizures: A Longitudinal Cohort Study
Background: Febrile seizures affect 2-5% of children and carry an increased risk of subsequent epilepsy. Identifying predictors of epilepsy development is essential for risk stratification and family counseling. This study aimed to determine the cumulative incidence of epilepsy following febrile seizures and identify independent predictors.
Methods: This prospective longitudinal cohort study enrolled 523 children aged 6-60 months presenting with febrile seizures between January 2014 and December 2023. Baseline clinical characteristics, electroencephalography (EEG) findings, and neuroimaging results were recorded. Participants were followed for a median of 6.2 years. Epilepsy was defined according to the International League Against Epilepsy criteria. Multivariate logistic regression and Kaplan-Meier survival analyses were performed.
Results: Of 482 children completing follow-up, 29 (6.0%) developed epilepsy. Cumulative incidence at 2, 5, and 8 years was 2.3%, 4.8%, and 6.0%, respectively. Five independent predictors were identified: complex febrile seizures (adjusted OR 3.24; 95% CI 1.38-7.62), family history of epilepsy (OR 3.87; 95% CI 1.48-10.12), neurodevelopmental abnormality (OR 2.91; 95% CI 1.14-7.44), epileptiform EEG abnormalities (OR 6.42; 95% CI 2.61-15.78), and ≥3 febrile seizure recurrences (OR 4.56; 95% CI 1.62-12.85). A risk stratification score demonstrated good discriminative ability (AUC 0.847), classifying children into low-risk (1.2%), intermediate-risk (8.4%), and high-risk (42.9%) categories.
Conclusion: This study identifies five independent predictors enabling effective risk stratification for epilepsy following febrile seizures, facilitating individualized counseling and surveillance strategies

In the homeopathic system of medicine, hair thinning is understood through an individualized, holistic lens that takes into account genetic predisposition, mental and emotional states, past illnesses, and miasmatic background. This paper presents a case of a young male who developed hair thinning following a COVID-19 infection. The case highlights the patient’s positive clinical response to individualized homeopathic care and integrative therapy, emphasizing the efficacy of a non-invasive approach in addressing chronic hair conditions at Dr Batra’s
Clinico-Hematological Profile of Thalassemia Patients Receiving Regular Blood Transfusions and Chelation Therapy
Background: Thalassemia is one of the most common inherited hemoglobin disorders worldwide, characterized by defective globin chain synthesis leading to chronic hemolytic anemia. Regular blood transfusions remain the mainstay of therapy, yet they predispose patients to transfusional iron overload and its systemic complications. This study aimed to evaluate the clinico-hematological profile and iron overload status of thalassemia patients on regular transfusion and chelation therapy.
Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 20 diagnosed thalassemia patients receiving regular blood transfusions at a tertiary care center over a period of 18 months. Demographic data, clinical features, hematological parameters, peripheral smear findings, and serum ferritin levels were recorded. Iron chelation therapy details and compliance were documented.
Results: The majority of patients (80.0%) had β-thalassemia major with a male predominance (60.0%). The mean hemoglobin at the time of presentation for transfusion was 7.1 ± 1.5 g/dL. Splenomegaly and hepatomegaly were observed in 70.0% and 55.0% of patients, respectively. The mean serum ferritin was 3180 ± 1920 ng/mL, with significantly higher levels in patients with longer transfusion duration (p=0.018) and irregular chelation compliance (p=0.024). Deferasirox was the most commonly used chelator (60.0%).
Conclusion: Even in this small cohort, thalassemia patients on regular transfusion therapy exhibit significant iron overload despite chelation, particularly with poor compliance. Regular clinico-hematological assessment is essential for optimizing transfusion protocols and chelation regimens. Larger multicentric studies are warranted to validate these findings
Association Between Meconium-Stained Liquor and Cardiovascular-Neurological Morbidity (PPHN, PDA, IVH) in Term Neonates: A Single-Center Experience
Background: Traditional Vedic practices, Ayurvedic principles, and ocular exercises such as the Bates method have long been associated with vision enhancement and ocular health. This study evaluates the combined effects of Chakshushopanishad mantra chanting, Ayurvedic interventions, and controlled sunlight exposure on visual acuity, refractive errors, and ocular hydration.
Methods: A structured observational and experimental study was conducted on participants aged 18–65 years with varying degrees of ocular conditions. Interventions included daily mantra chanting, water charged with metal ions (copper, silver, and gold), Ayurvedic eye care practices (Nasya and Anjana), and the Bates sunning method. Contrast sensitivity scores increased by 70% (p<0.01), suggesting enhanced retinal adaptation. Tear film breakup time (TFBUT) showed a 36% improvement, indicating better ocular hydration and reduced dry eye symptoms. Subjective feedback reported lower eye strain, reduced glare sensitivity, and improved night vision. Spectroscopic analysis confirmed the presence of copper and silver ions, supporting their potential bioactivity in ocular health.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that mantra vibrations, metallic ion transfer, and sunlight exposure contribute to ocular function improvement by enhancing visual acuity, tear film stability, and contrast sensitivity. These results provide a scientific basis for integrating traditional Ayurvedic and Vedic ocular therapies into modern vision care. Further large-scale studies are warranted to explore the long-term efficacy and underlying mechanisms of these interventions
