DARI SUMATERA KE KALIMANTAN: ADAPTASI SOSIAL BUDAYA MAHASISWA BARU ASAL SUMATERA UTARA DI PALANGKA RAYA
Socio-cultural adaptation is mandatory for newcomers, including new students from North Sumatra. Adaptation is needed to get along, develop, and gain comfort in a new environment. The purpose of this study is to examine the process, obstacles, challenges and adaptation strategies of new students from North Sumatra in Palangka Raya. The research method used is a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The research data collection techniques include observation and interviews. Data analysis techniques include data collection, data reduction, and data presentation. The result of this study is that the adaptation process of new students from North Sumatra occurs through studying and understanding the socio-culture in Palangka Raya. Local students, regional organizations and churches from North Sumatra are used as socialization agents. The barriers and challenges are language, dialect, and culture shock. The strategy is to try to get to know better the socio-culture in Palangka Raya through socialization agents
The Urgency of Implementing Case Method and Team-Based Project Learning Methods in Higher Education
The Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Number 3/M/2021 on Key Performance Indicators, has shifted the paradigm of the learning process from teacher-centred to student-centred learning. The case method and team-based project learning methods are the criteria for IKU 7 on classroom learning. This indicator emphasizes collaborative and participatory learning to increase the quality and competitiveness of universities in Indonesia. This research analyses the need to implement case method and team-based project learning methods in higher education. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach to investigate, describe, and interpret how important the implementation of case and team-based project learning methods is in higher education and the phenomenon of implementing these learning methods in higher education. The research data collection technique is a literature study from books, journal articles, research, and online media. The literature sources are critically analyzed to answer the research objectives and ideas in learning methods. The result of this research is that the case method and team-based project learning methods have advantages in the learning process, including increasing student participation, increasing student motivation, increasing student skills based on graduate morals and ethics, building a pleasant learning atmosphere, improving student soft skills and hard skills, creating students who are more critical and responsible, improving student cognitive aspects, and so on. Case methods and team-based project learning methods are essential to implement in higher education because they are by the MBKM and IKU programs, which emphasize collaborative and participatory learning
Poken Bante: a Tradition of the Mandailing Community in Welcoming Eid Al-Fitr
The Poken Bante is a Mandailing community tradition in welcoming Eid al-Fitr. This tradition is carried out on the last day of Ramadan. This study aims to examine the activities of Mandailing people in the Poken Bante tradition, to understand the relevance of the Poken Bante tradition and Islamic teachings, and to analyze the meaning and value of the Poken Bante tradition in welcoming Eid al-Fitr. This tradition was studied using qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The primary data was obtained through participant observation and in-depth interviews. Ethnographic notes are essential in primary data collection. Secondary data was obtained through articles, books, and archives. Data analysis in this research is ethnographic analysis by systematically examining the data obtained, the relationship between the data, and the overall relationship of the data. This research took place for one month, starting from the middle of Ramadan to Syawal in 1444 H (April - May 2023 M), located in Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency. This research found that the Poken Bante tradition is a meat market activity that arises on the last day of Ramadan due to the high demand for meat needs from the Mandailing community. The relevance of this tradition and Islam is reflected in the integration of Mandailing culture and Islamic teachings based on the Mandailing philosophy of Hombar do Adat dohot Ibadat. The meaning and value of the Poken Bante tradition are togetherness, unity, integrity, and helping
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Eksistensi Horja Mandailing di Era Globalisasi
The vulnerability of local culture to global culture is increasingly dangerous due to the massive development of technology. The influence of globalization can change every element of human life. Horja as a Mandailing cultural heritage can be eroded by the influence of globalization. The sacredness of horja can always change towards profane due to the demands and needs in the era of globalization. This research aims to find out how horja in the life of Mandailing people and horja in the era of globalization. The type of research used is qualitative research with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The results concluded that horja is divided into three types, namely horja siriaon, horja siluluton or horja mambulungi, and horja siulaon. Dalihan na tolu is the most important part of horja implementation which consists of kahanggi, mora, and anak boru. The existence of horja in the globalization era takes place according to Mandailing customs and traditions. There are shifts and changes in the implementation of horja but not too significant. Shifts and changes that occur follow technological developments according to the demands of the times in the era of globalization
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
