Color flux tubes in SU (3) Yang-Mills theory: An investigation with the connected correlator

In this work we perform an investigation of the flux tube between two static color sources in four dimensional SU(3) Yang-Mills theory, using the so-called connected correlator. Contrary to most previous studies we do not use any smoothing algorithm to facilitate the evaluation of the correlator, that is performed using only stochastically exact techniques. We first examine the renormalization properties of the connected operator, then we present our numerical data for the longitudinal chromoelectric component of the flux tube, that are used to extract the dual superconductivity parameters

Manipulating macrophage polarization in cancer patients: From nanoparticles to human chimeric antigen receptor macrophages

    No full text
Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell treatment has provided notable results in hematological tumors. Unfortunately, this evidence has not been translated into improved outcomes in solid malignancies so far, where several reports have suggested that T cells encounter substantial difficulties in penetrating and surviving in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Thus, researchers have recently investigated other immune cell types as CAR platforms, in order to overcome the limitations of CAR T cells. Among them, CAR-macrophages (M) technology has emerged as a novel perspective for cancer patients, on the basis of preclinical studies observing that CAR expression in human macrophages could play a crucial role in enhancing phagocytosis, polarizing M2 to M1 phenotype, and stimulating T cell anti-tumor activity. Herein, we provide an overview of current scenario of CAR-Ms in several solid tumors, also focusing on the biological rationale behind this promising therapeutic approach and future research directions in this setting

Symptomatic effects of methotrexate, 5fluorouracil and leucovorin in advanced colorectal cancer after failure of 5FU continuous infusion

Twenty-two advanced colorectal cancer patients, refractory to 5FU CI, were given methotrexate 200 mg/m(2) as a 30 minutes i.v. infusion, followed 24 hours later by 5FU at the dose of 600 mg/m(2) as a 15 minutes i.v. infusion, and leucovorin 10 mg/m(2) orally every 6 hours for 6 times. The cycle was repeated every 2 weeks. There were two partial responses (9%; 95% CI 6%-12%), while eleven patients achieved a stabilization of disease. Toxicity was extremely mild. Symptoms relief occurred in 26/41 cases (63%), Median duration of palliation was 11 weeks (range 4-18), Our results confirm that biochemical modulation with MTX is not a satisfactory mean of increasing 5FU activity in patients previously exposed to 5FU CI, However, the significant symptom palliation appears highly worthwhile, and it could be considered in the decision to treat symptomatic colorectal cancer patients refractory to 5FU CI

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
