INFLUENCE OF QUERTULIN ON THE FUNCTIONAL STATE OF EYES IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES TYPE 2
O. Yu. Tsiselskaya
Aim: To determine therapeutic and preventive action of anti-dysbiotic medicament Quertulin containing quercetin, inulin and calcium citrate in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and retinopathy.
Materials and methods. The study involved 64 patients with type 2 diabetes, 45 of which had non-proliferative and 19 had proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NDR and PDR, respectively). Patients were divided into 2 groups: the comparison group (received basic standard treatment) and the basic group (in addition received Quertulin). In the blood there were determined sugar levels and white blood cells counts. The functional state of eyes (visual acuity, the total field of view, the phosphen diagnostic indicators, size of Bjerrum scotoma, intraocular pressure and tonography indicators) was evaluated as well. Measurements were performed on the day of receipt, after 10 and 30 days of treatment. As a control 21 healthy humans were studied.
Results. It was found that hyperglycemia is more pronounced in patients with PDR; visual acuity was reduced (in patients with NDR it was 29-42 % less, in patients with PDR it was 70-80% less); a downward trend in the field of view by 8 meridians was shown. Treatment of patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) eliminated hyperglycemia, increased visual acuity and the field of view size, it was even more pronounced in patients with PDR after Quertulin administration. Other functional indicators of eyes and white blood cell counts did not change significantly.
Conclusion. The results indicate the feasibility of application of antidysbiotic medicament Quertulin in the complex treatment of patients with diabetes to prevent retinopathy.

Yu. M. Lotman and Contemporary Narratology
The paper reconstructs the influence of the semiotic studies of Yu. Lotman on the formation of the problems and the research apparatus of modern (“post-classical”) multimedia narratology, associated with the names of J. Genette, P. Ricoeur, W. Schmid and others. In particular, the author discusses the emergence of scientific interest in the film narrative, which has also had a significant impact on literary narratology, enriching it with the constructive concept of the “narrative image”. The article focuses on Lotman’s storytelling research, especially the concept of “plot-driven texts” of culture in their opposition to “plotless texts”. Particular importance is attached to the distinction between plot and myth, which continued O. M. Freidenberg’s investigations into the origin of narration. Lotman’s pioneering role in mastering the scientific categories of “narrative worldview” and “narrative event” is described. The author reveals the place of Lotman's research heritage in the comprehension of narrative practices as a tool for mental appropriation of life, accumulation and retranslation of event experience, as well as in the birth and development of the modern project of historical narratology
Yu. N. Chumakov: Memories of Meeting Yu. M. Lotman
The article features an excerpt from Chumakov’s memoirs, describing how, in the late 1960s, he got acquainted with Lotman’s book Lectures on Structural Poetics and then met the author of the lectures at the Pushkin Conference in Pskov. According to the memoirist, Lotman’s Lectures on Structural Poetics gave literary studies in the 1970s a new language, which may then have been modified within some other schools of literary studies, but it laid the foundation for the scientific description of the fiction text. Investigation of the fiction text has been characterized since the late 1960s by the structuralist approach. The memoirs also mention Chumakov’s defending his candidate dissertation, in which Lotman acted as an opponent (the dissertation was entitled “Problems of Pushkin’s Poetics: (Lyrics, The Stone Guest, Eugene Onegin)” and was defended in Saratov, in 1970.
One part of Chumakov’s candidate dissertation, as well as his report at the Pushkin conference in Pskov, was devoted to the role of the notes and “Passages from Onegin’s Journey” in Pushkin’s novel “Eugene Onegin”. Independently of each other, Chumakov and Lotman came to the conclusion that the notes are not a supplement, but real independent parts within the novel in verse, along with its eight chapters

Pseudo-volunteering in wartime: a topical issue of today
The present study attempts to provide a scientific interpretation of volunteering, and considers the practical significance of the database “Register of Volunteers of Ukraine” in terms of recording and accumulating information on persons who provide free assistance to people affected by the war and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For the purpose of a complete and comprehensive study, a number of current regulatory legal acts have been studied, in particular, laws of Ukraine, certain articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which directly or indirectly contain both the interpretation of the concepts under study and provide a wide range of scientific and legal tools necessary for studying the issues raised. The relevance of the topic under study is illustrated by a number of specific examples of volunteer activities carried out within the requirements and provisions of current legislation, as well as examples of actions of pseudo-volunteers which are outside the scope of legislative regulation. An attempt has been made to systematise the most significant bottlenecks and gaps in the legislative regulation of volunteer activities, which are used by pseudo-volunteers to abuse the trust of individuals and legal entities, undermining one of the most important foundations of our society – people’s trust in each other. The results of the study are formulated in the form of a substantiated conclusion and proposals are made in terms of exploring the possibilities of preparing, discussing and, if supported, amending the current legislation that directly regulates and governs volunteer activities, as well as establishing additional preventive mechanisms designed to prevent abuse in this area. The unity of efforts of state bodies and institutions, combined with the free will of citizens and public organisations in carrying out open volunteer activities, providing assistance and assistance based solely on the call of the heart, openness and trust, can withstand all the challenges facing our country today by providing comprehensive support to the affected category of citizens and strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities
Appropriations of Irish drama by modern Korean nationalist theatre : a focus on the influence of Sean O’Casey in a colonial context
My thesis explores how a translated author on the periphery of the host culture’s
translated repertoire can be at once subversive and innovative on the colonial scene,
using as an example the case of Sean O’Casey in colonial Korea. It explores the
importation of Irish drama in modern Korean theatre during the colonial period and
examines the appropriations of O’Casey’s plays by a central Korean playwright, Yu
Chi-jin, in creating his own plays. Under Japanese colonial rule in the early twentieth
century, intellectuals perceived the supreme task for the Korean people to be the
recovery of national sovereignty and independence. The modern Korean theatre
movement which rose among Korean intellectuals and dramatists during the colonial
period was to play a major part in this task. The ultimate goal of this movement was
to establish a modern national theatre promoting Korean culture and educating the
people, thereby recovering national independence. As their modernised dramatic
polysystem was still "young", Korean intellectuals and dramatists who were
involved in the theatre movement had to borrow dramatic models from other
countries. One of the models they chose was Irish playwrights, especially those who
were involved in the Irish dramatic movement. They published or staged the works
of W.B. Yeats, Lord Dunsany [Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett], Augusta
Gregory, J.M. Synge, St. J. Ervine, T.C. Murray and Sean O'Casey. Although
O'Casey was considered an important dramatist in the Irish dramatic movement, he
was a playwright on the periphery in the list of translated Irish dramatists in Korea
due to the colonisers’ censorship. However, he remained as a subversive and
innovative playwright on the colonial scene by virtue of being appropriated by Yu
Chi-jin who used O’Casey’s plays as models when creating his own works. In
discussing the subject matter of my thesis, I use Even Zohar’s polysystems theory as
a starting point in looking at ideological issues surrounding translation and extend
the discussion to offer a postcolonial perspective. While most translation in a
colonial context was considered as "an expression of the cultural power of the
colonisers," my thesis shifts the focus to translation as an expression of the cultural
power of the colonised. I explore how the colonised uses another colonised culture to
subvert the colonisers’ power
The 2oth century struggle for life in China's rural region in Yu Hua's novel To Live
Yu Hua (余华,1960-...), Çin’in Mao (毛泽东,1893-1976) sonrası dönemi önemli yazarlarından
biridir. Çocukluğu Kültür Devrimi (文化大革命,1966-1976) döneminde geçen yazarın eserlerinde
siyasi hareketin etkileri ve izleri görülür. Yu Hua’nın Çin’in 20. yüzyıldaki sosyal durum ve toplum
Yu Hua is one of the most important author of China's post-Mao (毛泽东,1893-1976) era. The
effects and traces of the political movement can be seen in the works of the author, whose childhood
passed during the Cultural Revolution of China (文化大革命,1966-1976) Yu Hua’s novel “To Live (
活着)” based on China's social situation and social phenomena in the 20th century, was banned afterits publication in China in 1993 and was also adapted into a movie by Zhang Yimou (张艺谋,1951-
...). The novel deals with the process of Chinese society starting from the Civil War of China until
1976, when the Cultural Revolution lasted, the transformation of society in social, cultural and
political terms and the effects of political movements in that period on people’s lives, the daily lives
of people living in rural areas and their struggle for survival by adhering to the characters. Based on
the life story of the Xu (徐) family, the novel tells the experiences of the family through the eyes of
Fugui (福贵). Fugui is a character who sees the death of each of his family members and is eventually
left alone with his old ox. Fugui and his family are influenced by waves of political movements such
as China’s civil war, the Great Leap Forward (大跃进,1958-1960) and the Cultural Revolution, and
they try to survive in the shadow of these political movements. The subjects dealt with through
various stories in the novel show the effects of the political movements of that period on the lives of
people in the society and at the same time reflect the social life of those periods of Chinese society. In
this study, in line with the theory of literary sociology, Yu Hua's novel “To Live” will be analyzed, and
the reflections and effects of the political movements experienced in that period on people's lives will
be examined through the examples in the story through the events experienced by the characters in
the novel. Examining the work written by the author, whose childhood passed in the Cultural period,
is important in terms of understanding the impact of China’s period and the political movements
experienced in that period on people’s lives
The poisoning effect of sintering dust on V 2 O 5 –WO 3 /TiO 2 catalyst for NO x removal in iron ore sintering flue gas
NOx from iron ore sintering flue gas can be removed by selective catalytic reduction (SCR) over V2O5–WO3/TiO2 (VWTi) catalyst. In this work, the poisoning effects of K2SO4 and CaSO4 on the VWTi catalyst were investigated. The SCR activities and physicochemical properties of the fresh and poisoned catalysts were characterized. The results confirmed the deactivation of the poisoned catalysts, and the SCR activity decreased with increasing the concentration of the doped poisoning precursors. This reduced SCR activity could be related to the decreased reducibility of vanadium species and lower content of surface chemisorbed oxygen. Characterization of the poisoned catalysts showed migration of V 2p3/2 towards lower binding energy, reduced amount of NH3 desorption, and elimination of V=O stretching vibration bond, which could be attributed to the extension of V=O bond, consequently leading to the formation of –V–O–Ca/K bonds. A possible poisoning mechanism of the VWTi catalyst was proposed and discussed
