Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Full text linkEn este trabajo encontraremos una síntesis de las técnicas de traducción, las características y restricciones de las modalidades de doblaje y subtitulación, así como las consideraciones a tener en cuenta a la hora de traducir referencias culturales incluidas en distintos tipos de chistes, para producir humor en una película de género cómico. A continuación, a través de fragmentos de la película Intocable, observaremos si las reglas y recomendaciones para estas dos modalidades se respetan, y cuáles son las técnicas más empleadas para la traducción de cada tipo de chiste formado por referentes culturalesEn aquest treball trobarem una síntesi de les tècniques de traducció, característiques i restriccions de les modalitats de doblatge i subtitulació, així com les consideracions a tenir en compte a l'hora de traduir referències culturals incloses en diferents tipus d'acudits, per a produir humor en una pel·lícula de gènere còmic. A continuació, a través de fragments de la pel·lícula Intocable, observarem si les regles i recomanacions per a aquestes dues modalitats es respecten, i quines són les tècniques més utilitzades per a la traducció de cada tipus d'acudit format per referents culturalsIn this work we will find a synthesis of the translation techniques, the characteristics and restrictions of dubbing and subtitling modalities, as well as the considerations to keep in mind when we translate cultural references which are included in different types of jokes, to produce humour in a comedy film. La traducción y el doblaje al castellano de los referentes culturales y del dialecto en la película 'Bienvenue chez les ch'tis'
Full text linkEste trabajo se ha centrado básicamente en la traducción y el doblaje de los referentes cuturales y del dialecto francès propio de la región de Nord-Pas de Calais usado en la película del cineasta francés Dany Boon titulada Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008).Para ello se ha procedido, en primer lugar, a una reflexión sobre la idea de cultura y sobre otros conceptos que se relacionan con esta idea como son la lengua, los estereotipos e incluso los prejuicios que a veces se generan en una sociedad a partir de estos conceptos. Por otra parte, la evolución de la idea de cultura no ha sido ajena a la llegada a Europa de sociedades o grupos multiculturales y por este motivo se ha dedicar un apartado a este fenómeno. A continuación, se hace una revisión histórica de las lenguas regionales en Francia para llegar al caso particular de Nord-Pas de Calais, región donde se sitúa la acción de la película. Finalmente llegamos al anàlisis del procedimiento y de la manera en cómo se han traducido y doblado al español los referentes culturales y algunas expresiones propias del dialecto ch'ti del Nord-Pas de CalaisAquest treball s'ha centrat bàsicament en la traducció i el doblatge dels referents culturals i del dialecte francès propi de la regió de Nord-Pas de Calais utilitzat a la pel·lícula del cineasta francès Dany Boon titulada Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008). Per a realitzar-lo s'ha procedit, en primer lloc, a fer una reflexió sobre la idea de cultura i sobre altres conceptes que es relacionen amb aquesta idea com són la llengua, els estereotips i també els prejudicis que a vegades es generen en una societat a partir d'aquests conceptes. Per altra banda, l'evolució de la idea de cultura no ha estat aliena a l'arribada de societats o grups multiculturals a Europa, i per aquest motiu s'ha dedicat un apartat a aquest fenomen. A continuació, s'ha fet una revisió històrica de les llengües regionals a França per arribar al cas particular de Nord-Pas-de Calais, regió on es situa l'acció de la pel·lícula. Finalment, arribem a l'anàlisi del procediment i de la manera com s'han traduït i doblat al espanyol els referents culturals i algunes expressions pròpies del dialecte ch'ti del Nord-Pas de CalaisCe travail s'est fondamentalement centralisé sur la traduction et le doublage des référents culturels et du dialecte français propre de la région du Nord-Pas de Calais employé dans le film du réalisateur français Dany Boon intitulé Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (2008). Pour ce faire, on a procédé, tout d'abord, à une réflexion sur l'idée de culture et d'autres concepts qui sont en rapport avec cette idée tels que la langue, les stéréotypes et même les préjugés parfois générés dans une société à partir de ces concepts. D'ailleurs, l'évolution de l'idée de culture n'est pas étrangère à l'arrivée en Europe de sociétés ou groupes multiculturels, c'est pourquoi on a consacré un paragraphe à ce phénomène. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
