Full text linkThe author discusses hunting scenes in film representing a variety of genres not for their iconography, but rather for their metaphorical impact. Filmmakers use hunting as a metaphor to speak about completely different issues. They explore political topics, expose their ideological and ethical aspects, focus on instances of customary behaviour. Alicja Helman points out the link between hunting and death. According to her, people who are capable to kill animals are also capable to kill people – not only at war, but for other reasons as well. The article focuses mainly on the works which became models for later films belonging to the traditions of ethno-fiction, western, horror, and psychological drama

No full textThe article focuses on cultural translation and its ethical consequences according to Alicja Iwańska (1918–1996), a Polish sociologist and writer. In her book Świat przetłumaczony [The Translated World] (1968) Iwańska uses a figure of a translator-traitor while trying to translate Mexico conquered by the Spanish to Poland ruined by the Nazis and Stalinists – the book was the literary aftermath of her field work on the culture of Indian Mazahua of a secluded Mexican village. The scientific aftermath of the same research was her anthropological monograph Purgatory and Utopia. A Mazahua Indian Village of Mexico (1971). The first book, written in Polish, was described by the author as “a fictionalized account”, “a literary production”; the second, written in English, was designed as “relatively free from the interference of extra-scientific emotional elements”. For Alicja Iwańska, before the Second World War a philosophy student under prof. Tatarkiewicz, translating a culture is an ethical problem; the complex relations between truth, falsity and fiction in intercultural translation are coupled with the issues of expressibility in a specific narrative (literary versus scientific) and a specific language (Polish versus English). Iwańska’s books, read again after 50 years from their creation, seem to be a forgotten link of the Polish translation theory

No full textSequel lub koda artykułu poświęconego filmowi To Sang Fotostudio, który został opublikowany w setnym, jubileuszowym wydaniu "Kwartalnika Filmowego". Autor postanowił odwiedzić miejsce, gdzie nakręcono dokument Johana van der Keukena, nie tyle po to, by przeprowadzić tam śledztwo, ile by zrealizować rodzaj eksperymentu - wizyta miała stanowić okazję do otwarcia się na doświadczenie, z założenia niekompletne i zamknięte w obrębie kilku dni. Tekst jest nie tyle uzupełnieniem interpretacji zawartej w poprzednim artykule, ile raczej próbą zastanowienia się nad wartością poznawczą indywidualnego doświadczenia w kontekście rozpoznania możliwych znaczeń dzieła filmowego. Pitrus przyjmuje postawę skrajnie subiektywną, ale sugeruje, że i takie odczytania mogą mieć sens dla czytelnika. W wyprawie brali także udział bliski przyjaciel autora Artur Piskorz i Miłość Jego Życia - Alicja Helman. Ich obecność była wielce znacząca dla powodzenia przedsięwzięcia.A sequel or coda of the article devoted to the film "To Sang Fotostudio", which was published in the hundredth, jubilee edition of the "Kwartalnik Filmowy". The author decided to visit the place where Johan van der Keuken’s documentary was made. The purpose of the expedition was not so much to conduct an investigation, but an experiment - the visit was to be an opportunity to open up oneself to experience, that is by assumption incomplete and closed within a few days. The text is not so much a complement to the interpretation contained in the previous article, but rather an attempt to reflect on the cognitive value of individual experience in the context of recognizing the possible meanings of a film work. Andrzej Pitrus takes an extremely subjective attitude, but suggests that such readings may make sense for the reader. In the expedition, the close friend of the author Artur Piskorz and the Love of his Life - Alicja Helman also took part. Their presence was very significant for the success of the undertaking
Perceptions of Primary Care Among Breast Cancer Survivors: The Effects of Weight Status
No full textBackground: Obese breast cancer survivors (BCSs) are impacted by diminished quality of life (QOL), multiple comorbid conditions, and poor disease outcomes. Despite national guidelines recommending a healthy weight to improve QOL and outcomes posttreatment, support and education are not routinely provided to BCSs in primary care. To fill this gap, we assessed
perceptions of primary care received among BCSs by weight status.
Methods: Cross-sectional surveys were administered to early-stage BCSs (N ¼ 188) from 2 New Jersey cancer centers between May 2012 and July 2013. Sociodemographics, medical history, functional health status, perceived satisfaction with one’s primary care provider (PCP), and PCP involvement in follow-up care were assessed.
Results: In total, 82% of overweight BCSs and 30% of obese BCSs reported not being told by their doctor that they were overweight or obese, despite these conditions being highly prevalent (35% and 35%, respectively). Obese BCSs were more likely than healthy weight BCSs to be African American, have a higher comorbidity score, poorer functional health, and greater satisfaction with their PCPs.
Conclusion: The PCP–patient encounter may represent an opportunity for PCPs to correct misperceptions and promote weight reduction efforts among BCSs, thus improving QOL and disease outcomes.Peer reviewe
